00:00An elderly man was rescued after being trapped in a burning house in Taman Island Glades, Gelugor, on Saturday.
00:09Penang Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Operations, John Sagan Francis,
00:14said the department received the emergency call at 9.59 p.m.
00:19Firefighters from the Jalan Perak station were immediately dispatched,
00:23with additional support from volunteer teams from Perak Lane, Paya Terubong and Lebo Bakau.
00:29Upon arrival, firefighters found that the blaze had engulfed a terrace house
00:34and had spread to a neighboring unit, with one victim reported to be trapped inside.
00:39The 73-year-old victim was rescued through the back door by firefighters in full protective gear.
00:46The blaze also damaged a Toyota Camry.
00:49The fire was brought under control by 10.30 p.m., and the operation ended at 12.08 a.m.
00:55The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are currently under investigation.
