00:11of the v8 supercar races just minutes away but let's get to the paddock now and check in with
00:16howie and james thanks mel james great to see you here i've never seen sebastian vettel as we're in
00:21the paddock wrestle a car like we did in that session was quite incredible yeah and it was
00:25interesting to hear him reporting back wasn't it they've got a lot of problems with the drive
00:28ability but i don't think he's the only one i think a lot of people have got problems with this
00:32this is a very immature technology the hybrid systems are harvesting energy off the braking and
00:37you saw a lot of cars also caught in the tailwind going into turn nine that right hander at the
00:42chicane and that's obviously a problem as well so there's a lot of thinking going on now how do we
00:46attack qualifying from here obviously there's not much you can do about the drivability of the
00:50of the of the engines at this point uh it's his early days and the technology starting to get
00:54quite exciting down the paddock lots of people getting involved in fact there's the great
00:58rubens barichello the wonderful ferrari driver and williams the great brazilian just spending
01:02some time it's just starting to get a little bit exciting now starting to get a bit of vibe james
01:06the beautiful people like your good self are starting to come out what can we expect in
01:10qualifying can you answer that question what about me being a beautiful i look like a lemon in
01:13comparison to this guy i mean this is the old australian boy here i'm sorry i'm messing up the
01:18shot here as we walk along through the paddock but at least you got rid of that beard from last year
01:21that was just a midlife crisis you know we all have them so anyway everybody's kind of a bit
01:26a bit concerned about what the weather's going to do that's the other thing the wind was up and
01:29down wasn't it nine meters per second one minute 18 meters per second the next it was really hard
01:33to and now you can feel it it feels squally because we're so close to the coast here aren't
01:37we and there is a forecast of a rain showers coming in today and you can really believe it well
01:41that's the northerly breeze which could well swing around if we get those thunderstorms
01:45into the southerly is just over here come over here come with me let me show you this is a little
01:49tradition here this is part of this is part of formula one this is the ferrari team who very
01:54generously uh put on their pasta and that looks like lamb chops or pork chops nice bit of uh nice

02:26howie it's a huge crowd always for ferrari here haven't sort of seen this gear in the channel 10
02:31marquee for a while james but anyway we'll continue on as you put the salami in your mouth if you had
02:35to pick someone going through qualifying to put it on pole i know it's a difficult question but where where
02:40would your money be you're the expert come on well finish your salami what was what was interesting about
02:45that um session just now was that rosberg got it right on his quality simulation and hamilton messed
02:51it up in the middle sector he got caught out by that tailwind i was talking about a minute ago
02:56and he blew the lap so if that happens again in qualifying then obviously rosberg's the man
03:01did you see how pleased with himself he looked at the end on the shots rosberg he's so happy and
03:05of course hamilton's back in his garage going let's go and have a look in here now james you've
03:10probably got the right pass to get in here these are the amazing corporate setups it's like a
03:14restaurant that just appears out of nowhere we'll just uh sneak in there before you get in too much
03:19trouble but this is amazing setups it just sort of appears from nowhere james it's like a a restaurant
03:24in a corporate area for the weekend yeah exactly and you can see roman grosjean there and his wife
03:29of course roman's a father of a of a young baby now as we talked about this morning in the breakfast
03:33show uh on channel 10 down at the at the crown so yeah that's that's a fairly modest one as well i mean
03:38lotus aren't the richest team in formula one so that's uh nothing comparison to uh the setup they've
03:42got inside the uh the mercedes team let's have a quick word with this man actually let's have a
03:47quick word with this man because he's right here is sam michael who's an australian right towards the
03:52top of the formula one world sam just come to say good day oh he's saying good day he's not really uh
03:57he's not really talking to anybody i'll explain why another time but there's rubens barichello and uh
04:04who was i gonna have a word with there's a federico gastaldi back there where have you gone you've
04:09just sort of you all your european mates coming you just give me the skin on this so ron dennis
04:12has come back now and he's running the mclaren team a serious man was very much front of house
04:17before he used to do a lot of talking and now ron said okay i talk and eric bouillet talks and no one
04:21else talks right so you swung around let's head let's sort of we don't want to get too far down let's
04:26stevie just head back up to sort of you meet a better class person at the back of the grid you know
04:30no you do but ron dennison the effect he has i said jokingly to you he's a serious man as we can
04:35see jensen button just over the side outside the mclaren area just sitting that way stevie and you'll
04:41see jensen and uh we'll get to ron dennison in a moment but i spoke to jensen earlier on i just
04:46can't believe how slight the drivers are james the the regulation changes these boys are becoming
04:51almost like they could ride in the second at flemington here in the horse racing jensen himself
04:55looks like he's lost four or five kilos there's nothing to him yeah a lot of the ladies would like
04:59to know what the dieting tips are i think of the drivers they've all had to lose some weight that's
05:03because of course of these new energy recovery systems on the cars that weigh an awful lot they've
05:08added an awful lot of weight to the cars and and that's why the drivers have got to get as low as
05:12possible because every every extra kilo you carry is a is a fraction of a second and uh jensen's sister
05:17is sitting over to the left there she's got the kind of aviator sort of sunglasses over on the left hand
05:21side sitting next to his manager whom we spoke to yesterday quick word rubens oh why not he's the he's
05:26just a wonderful man robinho always when you were here over 300 grand prix's the one of the happiest
05:32looking men in formula one and you haven't lost that trademark smile i love being here i really do
05:37it's uh it used to be one of my fave uh grand prix's it still is in it's the first time i come into to
05:45commentate for for global tv um i watch the cars on the track and i so many times i just want to jump in
05:52somebody has a like a stomachache i can jump in easily so it would suit you actually this kind
05:58of racing wouldn't it because this is that this is for the thinking driver this type of modern formula
06:02one isn't it well i think at the end of the day it still is for for the fastest uh of of all but
06:10race day comes in you gotta think because it's uh it's how to save fuel is how to save tires and a
06:15house to go fast with all of that so i used to enjoy so much and uh uh the fact that i didn't drive a
06:21turbo i do i drove uh on the indy series uh makes me feel like uh okay i could do that great to see
06:28you rubens the most experienced man in the history of formula one over 300 grand prix starts and an
06:33absolute superstar now i think the v8 are just about set to go so just you go and head back up to that
06:37salami territory and get into some of the pasta and we'll go to the v8 with the superstar commentary

06:50thank you mark we head off on the warm-up lap double file rolling start it's a new innovation
06:58a new addition to the program here at uh at albert park so far the driver with maximum points as we
07:03take a look at some of the on boards that will bring you over this one bottom left of screen scott
07:08mcgoughlin top left of your screen is jamie wincup and look to the top right the pepsi max for
07:14performance racing entry of mark winter bottom so they've they've gathered some points for the
07:23weekend so far not championship points we want to determine tomorrow afternoon who the overall winner
07:29is 75 points maximum from each of the two races so far and hey he can't get any more points shane
07:37van gisberg and the kiwis done a great job so he finds himself for techno autosports on pole position
07:42for this one alongside craig lounge yeah he's done an awesome job so far uh won the first race from
07:48second on the grid beat michael caruso who is starting on row two group four scott mclaughlin he's
07:54been exciting to watch he starts group five next to gar tander jamie wincup a little bit further
07:59back had that penalty yesterday that dropped him five bridge spots after that altercation down the
08:03front straight with scott mclaughlin i don't reckon that's going to end there there's going to be more
08:07between those two this year james courtney you know the holden racing team well anything up the sleeve
08:13can we see him move up the order he struggled a bit yesterday yeah they have been you know there's
08:17lots of things they're trying they're on the soft tire this weekend uh this track very long a lot of
08:22loaded very high loaded corners and these teams having you know trying a few different things
08:27trying to get the best out of these cars tire longevity the degradation here it's definitely
08:31there uh so you know everyone's trying a few bits and pieces qualifying so so critically important
08:37as we go on board now with james you know it'd be a little bit of frustration they would love to
08:42be up the front there's not points for the championship but it's still pride pride is on the line
08:47and gartan is going a little bit better they'll be working really really hard four cars in the
08:51walking shore stable and so there's a lot of information to to get collate and go through
08:55it was an awesome battle yesterday between jamie wincup and garth tander real attacking stuff from
09:01wincup and brilliant defense from tander and he was clinging to it wasn't he we watched some great
09:07footage out of jamie's car looking at tander you know and he was calculating how many laps he had left
09:12how much he had to hang on he had to talking to him yesterday he said he had to change what he was doing
09:16slightly he knew the car wasn't getting to the center of the corner
09:25that's tim shankin talking to the safety car getting everybody set up for this rolling start
09:32garth tander said he heads up modify his driving technique just a little bit to make sure that he
09:36held uh jamie wincup behind him and he did that really really well for the last couple of laps but
09:41you know they're all as i say making the changes trying to learn the cars as much as they can at
09:45this event but still they want to win so the safety car will peel off into the pit lane they'll line up
09:51in two long rows side by side the pole sitter will be van gisberg and by the time they would ordinarily
09:58get to about the fourth row of the grid if we were having a stationary start that's where they enter
10:03what's called the acceleration
10:1450 to 60 k's an hour the radar gun is up on the starter's stand here we go straight again to the
10:22inside just like he did yesterday when he was on pole lounges staying right on the right hand side
10:28and the guys behind these two guys at the front have to follow where they are going so we've got
10:33significant gap between the two van gisberg is in control there's the az board on the right hand
10:38side we see it he'll enter there and then it's up to him to choose when he goes which is now
10:43he gets a good jump tanner gets a good jump lounges not so good cool thought looking like he might get
10:49a run down the inside here into turn one awesome to have some v8 thunder back at albert park their v6 is
10:55in formula one these days bit of contact back in the pack courtney tied up in there so to one of the jack
11:00daniels nissons clean through one and two jason bright on the outside of tanner and the run down
11:07the outside into four mclaughlin looking for a way he's managed to find a spot get into fourth spot
11:12after the start bright looking aggressive looking racy he's putting pressure on garth tanner who runs
11:19wide advantage jason bright in the team boc entry and caruso in the beyond blue nissan gets through as
11:25well and he could lose another one here tanner he's run wide under a lot of pressure here we go
11:32on board with scott mclaughlin in the volvo the s60 has been just a stellar performer so far this year
11:41jack daniels car's got damaged there's been a sizable shot as mclaughlin locks the right front
11:46left front sorry goes off the road oh look at the damage poor dale wood in the wilson security entry
11:54he was here running the circuit with mark weber on tuesday safety car's been called tim shenkin has
12:00pulled the safety car so the boards are out action on the first lap of the third race there's damage to the
12:07back of garth tanner's car smoke coming from that one of the disson ultimates has some damage to one of
12:13the i'm not sure if it's rick kelly you can check the number no that's todd kelly it's todd
12:21todd kelly got damage in there is chas most it he's got a lot of damage to the right hand side
12:28that's bad that's definitely bad rusty not what they wanted from the albert park weekend it's certainly not
12:35these guys i'd say that is how uh chas most it's fpr falcon has received all the damage to the right
12:42inside it's done through dale wood's car who's clearly come around a corner and uh it was unable
12:49to avoid here we go so it was winter bottom down the inside of tander we could see there and there it
13:00is where's wood wood is there he's unsighted from way at the back too
13:11another angle here here we go sorry it's yeah tander and monster coming together
13:17wincup doing well to avoid all that look at the others taking evasive action as well
13:21jack to the driver's door too rusty obviously of monster's car uh clearly a reasonable hit not
13:27the biggest one who was there replay at the start van gisberg cleanly away again as he's done in the
13:32first two races so far this weekend everyone else spread right across the track look at lost it out
13:38on the grass almost looking for yeah he got a great start yeah got past wincup into one and held it there
13:46oh the nissan oldham is the two jack daniels cars nose to tail they have been grouped together all
13:53weekend those cars and uh there's been a bit of touch up between the yellow ones and the black ones
13:59bit of chat going on in the garage about right away and who should uh be given a clean track but uh
14:06chas most is in the pit lane now that car obviously not going anywhere substantial damage there to the
14:10right hand side and the cleaner take a commercial break here while the officials go to work they do
14:18a great job around the albert park circuit the volunteers and we'll come back with more hopefully
14:23get some news on dale wood for you on the other side of this you're watching v8 supercar racing as part
14:29of the australian grand prix
14:38we're back live at albert park you can see dale wood's car has been moved to the side of the track
14:42there will be a permanent yellow uh at that point for the remainder of this race but hopefully before
14:47we get a restart squeeze in here a couple of other angles we found forward performance race and go to
14:52work murph look at this this is mark winterbottom's looking steering straight at his teammate how he missed
14:57him david reynolds was going past on the right hand side jamie wincup in car watch this this is some
15:03driving how did he not get involved in that accident i have no idea that was absolutely brilliant
15:10here we go again at full speed with mark winterbottom oh david reynolds so close so very good job by all
15:17those guys unfortunately david uh dale wood was unable to avoid the incident and uh his car is parked as
15:24as you said on the outside of the circuit there and there will be a yellow flag for the remainder of
15:27the race there's i think jason bagwana could be a little bit busy uh this afternoon after he goes
15:32through the replays and uh tries to find out what actually happened there garth tander involved he's
15:37got a little bit of damage to the back of his car but him and most did garth got wide a few corners
15:42earlier got a couple of car lost a couple of spots and most had also got a run on him so it's going to
15:46be interesting to see uh the outcome of that one but uh not a great result there for most of and uh wood
15:51and garth and barks won bathurst together back in 2000 jason is these days the driving standards
15:58observer just interesting to catch those flag shots there before james allen talking about the threat
16:02of weather for the 5pm local time start to formula one qualifying we'll stay with this for now we have
16:11adrian burgess from the holden racing team standing by we'll come to you very shortly but
16:15the lights are out of the safety car let's focus on this restart first so here we go two by two again
16:23for the restart shane van gisbergen two laps ago did exactly the same thing as you see one of the
16:29erebus amgs go to pit lane that's uh i can't tell i think that's will davison has shot into pit lane
16:34not sure if he's got damage obviously some sort of problem gisbergen straight away look at the train
16:39look at the train move right over to the left hand side the same as what we had for the start of the
16:45race the acceleration zone you can see the boards and he will be given a green flag by damien white
16:53which signifies the control of the start goes to shane there he goes puts the foot down we've got a few
17:02less cars than what we had a few laps ago great response from tander as well on the the throttle of
17:07down the inside courtney having a look in the 22 machine lounge through hold second from courthard
17:14jason bright after that massive rollover in adelaide that brand new car is sitting in fourth place for
17:19team boc scott mclaughlin down the outside of caruso under brakes it's a great opportunity to try and
17:24make up a spot bright comes across on tander mclaughlin goes right around the outside and the volvo gains a
17:32couple of spots as they stream through four five the fast right hand is six
17:44van gisbergen back at the front controlling fabian coulthard a lot of pressure on craig
17:51lounge will davison in the number nine e63 amg has returned to the circuit from pit lane
17:59so van gisberger controlling this a drama for for lounge he's lost a spot there run wide it looks
18:05like cool thoughts run off as well as we take a look at this sequence of on boards yeah mclaughlin's
18:11been a big winner again he's got past bright who also seemed to have a problem down in the braking
18:16into 10 maybe there's something down on the road down there not quite sure but a couple of cars locking
18:20their brakes maybe just the tire temperature hasn't come back up but mclaughlin now over the
18:25through the fast 11 12 complex
18:33caruso very defensive game on here tander muscles his way past jason bright in those final sequence
18:39of corners lounge is trying to defend from the volvo has tinder done a bit of damage not quite sure
18:45there all of a sudden he seemed to balk a little bit once he had the run there on bright maybe he's
18:50given that spot back after having contact so the lead is van gisbergen from cool fabian sticking with
18:59it there he kept that foot buried through the turn nine ten complex with some of the red wire
19:04i think it'll be okay okay buddy get in your rhythm mate good job mate
19:11on board with winter bottom as he closes up under brakes behind jamie wincup
19:17the fpr guys have not had a good weekend so farming struggling there to get themselves deep inside the 10
19:26and obviously we saw chas molston his race is run here's winter bottom trying to make up some ground
19:31it's busy here we'll get a quick update adrian burgess on the line from the holden racing team
19:39how's the heart rate mate with uh with some of the action we've seen so far oh he's up there as high
19:45as these guys out here on the circuit i think uh yeah not enjoying watching this there's i think
19:48there's a few little battles going on which uh probably need to be sorted out after the race not
19:53during did um garth come back any reports on that coach he's got a little bit of loose body
19:58well body work a little bit damaged there in the back any other report from him on damage he still
20:02looks pretty racy to be mate no we've been touched up a little bit but the car's fine i think uh he's
20:06just got to keep a cool head i think everyone's uh fighting for sheep stations there and they don't
20:11really need to but uh yeah you know what you like you boys are like you put yourself in a race car
20:15we can't tell you anything i was i was never like that adrian i'll be watching this year mate a
20:20vital one for you before we let you go uh how's james courtney great result for you guys uh in adelaide
20:26but it's been a bit of a frustration for for courtney in the 22 so far this weekend yeah we
20:31didn't qualify too well uh but we'll have we knew coming here this was going to be a tough one uh
20:35the car doesn't suit this circuit or the issues we've got with it doesn't uh doesn't suit this
20:40track but look we're working hard uh we've got a lot of good things in the pipeline we're going to
20:44stay positive and focused and do our job and the day in the sun will come again soon best of luck to
20:48you and the boys we'll leave it there fantastic to chat with adrian burgess and we saw while we were
20:53chatting with him the drama for jason bright what a shame after being in fourth position
20:58in that voc that is a great shot coming onto the front straight right here
21:10being told from race control that this will run the full distance despite the the crash involving
21:16dale wood in the subsequent period under the safety car so we'll go the schedule 12. so we're in car with
21:23james courtney who just got past as we were talking about it with adrian burgess the team manager just
21:28got passed by lee holdsworth great camera shot out the front of the hrt commodore sorry
21:37he is still struggling he's just hasn't been able to get on top of things as we see
21:41van gisberg and coulthard showing a clean pair of heels here lounge just made that little mistake
21:47here's jason bright what a shame don't know if he had a problem telling him to kill it to shut the
21:54engine down coulthard sticking with it chasing down shane van gisberg and your race leader
22:03david reynolds having a good showing here he's got the damaged this is an older one of todd kelly right
22:10behind him but this is a bit of an improvement for for david struggling this weekend he's just
22:16inside the top 10 at ninth position right now managed to get through all the carnage three of the
22:22ultimas running nose to tail tim slate and the super cheap auto car just behind fastest lap so far
22:31a one minute 58.46 from coulthard
22:33shane van gisberg has done just a absolutely superb job so far this weekend dominating
22:43the results qualified on the outside of the front row but has not
22:51failed to lead a lap since since the start of the first race yesterday good performance by
22:56steve hallam and john o webb and all the crew there from the techno squad he's had a really
23:03he's constantly in the race seat as we were saying yesterday whether it's drifting or the
23:07daytona 24 hour where he raced a porsche
23:12let's have a look here this will be lounge using a lot of road and the grass and mclaughlin follows him
23:19everyone's pushing really hard it's a great shot there of craig lands and the car control
23:29so courtney's got a bit of a problem that's dahlgren and the volvo
23:32slotting down the inside his results so far this weekend on track not indicative of what was a very
23:37good qualifying performance by robert dahlgren uh just outside the top 10 murph in what is only his
23:42second uh round if you like or second race meeting in a v8 supercar first time he set eyes on one
23:48was at the pre-season test at uh at sydney motorsport park just a few weeks ago yeah a super tough job
23:54to jump into one of these cars you know very different to what he's been used to the horsepower
24:00the weight the braking all the the little idiosyncrasies about a v8 supercar that you know the guys
24:07with experience you know get that edge so he's been up against it but doing a great job and you know
24:11we expect that we will see him move forward obviously the teammate he's got scott mclaughlin
24:16showing it's garth tender loose coming into breaking there it's 12. you know he's got a great
24:22teammate to be able to learn from you know scott's not that experienced either but he's showing
24:26experience of of like he's been in the sport points in this class for 10 15 years so you know a great
24:32combination of drivers at grm just one second covered the entire field in qualifying they have
24:3916 dunlop tires for the weekend and they're the the softer variety so we're getting a bit more
24:45movement and uh looking for the guys who can manage and nurse those tires towards uh the end of the
24:51race we'll grab a commercial break here come back take you through to the finish of the v8 supercars at albert
24:57park
25:08nice to have you with us we're focused right now on v8 supercar racing at the same time counting down
25:14to formula one qualifying in the twilight coming up at 5 pm local you're watching the mss v8 supercars
25:20challenge race three of four for the weekend michael caruso did a fantastic job sixth at the moment a
25:27breakthrough pole position for nissan unfortunately hasn't translated to a race win just yet we've got
25:34scott sinclair on the line uh down in pit lane uh an interesting weekend for you scott in many respects
25:40a little bit of battle scars going on but that was a huge positive in the in the beyond blue ultimate
25:45for uh for michael caruso in quality wasn't it yeah hey rusty yeah well it's good look uh obviously
25:51good to have the pace in qualifying and uh be up there all four of us uh all four of the missing
25:56ultimas were up there in quality so that was really positive we haven't raced as well as we qualified so
26:01uh we've fallen back a little bit now just looking where the worst of us is 12 so we're still in the
26:05top half of the field all four cars so uh a good start to the year i suppose it's got its move here mate
26:11you've got one car that's uh nice and clear of the other ones but you the other three just won't
26:15leave each other alone they're all so close together obviously todd's got a bit of damage
26:20from that incident earlier on but mate i know you've been biting your fingers and having to deal with a
26:25bit of uh inter-team uh rivalry there how's that panning out for you that's been interesting a bit new
26:30to me as well but uh i mean the result is that uh we got four good guys who are all capable of winning
26:35races so uh they're all racing next to each other in uh and pretty evenly matched i i took on board
26:41your advice yesterday mate uh which was i'm never going to fix it so hopefully yeah hopefully i can
26:46do a better job but uh yeah they're in amongst it so that's all right just send them to the ipo mate
26:51yeah that'll be the easy option i reckon good on you scotty keep batting mate because that's hugely
26:56positive and uh all good signs not just for you guys but for the category as well well done yeah thanks
27:01boys it's great to have all four nissons up there well done thanks lads and craig lounge is pushing
27:07hard we saw some shots before he is very fast out there at the moment got the fastest lap of the
27:12race just a lap or so ago but he is pushing his red bull holden commodore as fast as he can to try and
27:19close the gap to fabian coulthard and it's uh pretty close he's just 1.2 seconds behind coulthard as it
27:28stands and we know louncy dog with the bone it feels a bit more spread out than we've seen in
27:34the opening two races we've had a few heart-stopping moments though along the way i still cannot get
27:40over some of that onboard vision from mark winterbottom from jamie wincup in that incident earlier with
27:46mostard and uh and dale wood they did so well to uh to avoid all that if you were tim edwards how would
27:51the gray hairs be in the wake of all that no i'm thinking we're probably not a good time to go talk to
27:55him but um yeah superb driving by those guys i mean having to make absolute split second decisions
28:02on where you put those cars and obviously you know there's other guys around you and in the case of
28:06mark winterbottom you know we saw david reynolds come come past him on the outside he must have missed him
28:11by millimeters so you know it's uh certainly pretty heart in the mouth kind of stuff as we go on board
28:17three of the cars there jamie wincup mark winterbottom and scott mclaughlin down the bottom left hand
28:23side of your screen all doing the job let's watch them all at work all working the 660 70 horsepower of
28:34each of these cars looking after those rear tires
28:41mclaughlin probably looks the busiest of all of them there wincup with those trademark supple
28:46movements but his car's still moving around leon's closing the gap it's down to under a second to
28:52coulthard and the gap for uh coulthard to the lead against gisberg and has come down slightly also
29:01so it's not over yet we've got a lap and a half to run here at race three in the v8 supercar challenge
29:09moffett under pressure there from tim slade looking to slide then to sit around a little bit more he's
29:15dropped off a fraction from his teammate rick kelly just to follow up to murph on uh on brad jones
29:22racing on team boc we're hearing it may be a jam throttle for uh for jason bright who retired earlier
29:29let's look at this here mark winterbottom he's making some progress say the best run he's had so

31:50whole way in fact lounge in that final lap was some three tenths of a second faster so right on him
