00:30Israel has approved plans to capture the entire Gaza Strip
00:35and remain in the territory for an unspecified amount of time, according to two Israeli officials.
00:41If implemented, the move could vastly expand Israel's operations in the territory
00:47and likely bring fierce international opposition.
00:50Officials said the plan is meant to help Israel achieve its aims of defeating Hamas
00:55and freeing the remaining hostages.
00:57It would also push hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to southern Gaza,
01:02what would likely exacerbate an already dire humanitarian crisis.
01:07Israel has blocked the entry of all humanitarian aid into Gaza for two months
01:12and says it also seeks to prevent Hamas from distributing aid under the new plans.
01:18According to an internal memo sent to aid organizations,
01:21Israel wants to use private security companies to control aid distribution.
01:26The United Nations said in a statement it would not participate in the plan,
01:30saying it violates its core principles.
01:37Representatives for Germany's CDU, CSU and SBD parties have formally signed their coalition agreement.
01:43The government is to be sworn in on Tuesday with CDU leader Friedrich Merz as the country's new chancellor.
01:50The coalition has a relatively modest majority with 328 of the Bundestag's 630 seats
02:17and aims to spur economic growth, ramp up defense spending,
02:22take a tougher approach to migration and catch up on long-neglected modernization.
02:27The Union and Social Democrats have governed Germany together before in the 1960s
02:32and more recently in three of the four terms of former Chancellor Angela Merkel.
02:36Anti-government protests erupted in Israel on Monday evening
02:43following reports of controversial new cabinet plans for Gaza.
02:47Hundreds gathered outside the Knesset parliament demanding a deal to release hostages held by Hamas.
02:53The protests follow news that Prime Minister Netanyahu's cabinet approved plans
02:56to potentially seize all of Gaza and stay indefinitely.
03:00The plan reportedly also involves moving hundreds of thousands of Palestinians south,
03:05raising fears of forcible displacement.
03:08Israel says the goal is defeating Hamas and freeing hostages,
03:11but protesters expressed deep skepticism.
03:14There's no reason to continue on with this war.
03:19What we did for one and a half year, last one and a half year,
03:24and we couldn't succeed, we won't be able to do it now.
03:27They just want to hail the strip of Gaza and make a new settlement there.
03:33They will stay there, soldiers will be killed,
03:37and the hostages will come back in black sack.
03:42That's what will happen.
03:44We are here to protest against the government,
03:47and we are calling to stop the war,
03:50which I believe is no longer a war, it's a genocide.
03:54We are here to call to bring back the hostages.
03:59We know that Netanyahu does not want the hostages back
04:04because he wants to keep his throne forever.
04:08We know that the messianic parties just simply wants to annex the West Bank and Gaza Strip,
04:18and we are against that.
04:19Israel resumed major operations in Gaza in mid-March
04:22and now controls about half the territory.
04:25An Israeli aid blockade since mid-March
04:28has worsened an already dire humanitarian crisis.
04:31Implementing the plan would mean a vast expansion of the war,
04:34likely drawing fierce international opposition.
04:36The hard-right nationalist candidate George Simeon secured a decisive win on Sunday
04:48in the first round of Romania's presidential election.
04:53Far behind in second place is Bucharest Mayor Nikusor Dan,
04:57who will face Simeon in the runoff.
05:00Nikusor! Nikusor!
05:01Don is an independent candidate who unexpectedly surpassed the coalition candidate Crin Antunescu.
05:07The vote took place for a second time after Romania's top court annulled the previous election
05:35following allegations of electoral violations and Russian interference.
05:41Far-right outsider Colleen Georgescu, who topped that round,
05:44is under investigation and was barred from the rerun.
05:48Romania now faces a tough battle in the second round in two weeks,
05:51where it will have to choose between an inward nationalist candidate
05:55and a pro-EU and pro-NATO one.
05:57Pro-Palestine protesters disrupted the speech of Dutch defense minister Ruben Breckelmans
06:10during their National Liberation Day celebrations in Wageningen.
06:15Demonstrators chanted Free Palestine and other pro-Palestinian slogans.
06:21Breckelmans reacted to the situation in his speech.
06:25En ik zeg dat ook tegen de mensen die we hier zojuist zagen,
06:29elkaar stevig vasthouden en elkaar niet uit elkaar laten spelen.
06:34Dat is wat ons allen te doen staat.

06:51U.S. President Donald Trump is now targeting films made abroad
07:02in the latest expansion of his ongoing tariff war.
07:06He has threatened 100% tariffs on international productions,
07:10accusing other countries of destroying Hollywood's film industry.
07:14Hollywood is being destroyed.
07:16Now, you have an incompetent, grossly incompetent governor that allows that to happen.
07:20So I'm not just blaming other nations, but other nations, a lot of them,
07:25have stolen our movie industry.
07:27And I'm saying, if they're not willing to make a movie inside the United States,
07:32then we should have a tariff on movies that come in.
07:35Trump also announced that he wants to reopen the notorious and long-shuttered Alcatraz prison,
07:42suggesting illegal immigrants could be detained there without trial.
07:45And I guess because the judges, so many of these radicalized judges,
07:51they want to have trials for every single thing of it.
07:55Every single person that's in our country illegally, that came in illegally,
07:59that would mean millions of trials, and it's just so ridiculous what's happening.
08:04And it's long been a symbol, Alcatraz, of whatever it is.
08:09I mean, it's a sad symbol, but it's a symbol of law and order.
08:14Bringing Alcatraz up to modern-day standards would likely be an expensive and challenging endeavor.
08:21It was shut more than 60 years ago due to crumbling infrastructure and high maintenance costs.

09:50by the group briefly halted flights at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion airport on Sunday.

10:20in order to, quote, safeguard their passengers.

11:01in the Wadi al-Nakhil area.

11:16after search efforts resumed.
