Transcript
00:00So, Screen on the Green is so special because it's really become a family staple to the
00:05families within Newcastle City Centre and the surrounding areas. It's a great place
00:09to enjoy loads of family classic films, some new ones as well, we've also got some blockbusters
00:14happening and it's just a really colourful, fun, vibrant space in some nice grass areas
00:19as well in the city.
00:22Since its launch in 2016, it's become a key part of anyone's summer in the city programme,
00:26drawn thousands of people into the heart of the city.
00:31So we've got some brand new films coming this year, they're top secret at the moment so we
00:34can't share that but if you just check our channels we'll be able to share that soon.
00:38We've also got some top secret other areas on the space as well that we're working on,
00:43again watch this space to find out what they are and then also we have our seating areas
00:47as well which we're working on developing and making a lot more fun, colourful and bright.
00:52So we can't say at the moment obviously but we have a whole range of new films coming
00:56so we have our blockbuster Thursdays which are big films that have happened over the
01:00last year and which are great for the post work crowd to enjoy.
01:04We've also got our toddler takeovers happening again where we screen junior Donaldson films
01:08and this year we are going to be showing their new film Tiddler.
01:11We've also got our Tyneside cinema takeovers which happen on Wednesdays and they've picked
01:17out some really nice films that are just quintessentially Tyneside cinema.
01:22So yeah we've got a whole range of some really nice fun new family films, some old classics,
01:27so lots to enjoy over the summer.
01:30So I think toddler takeovers is a really really nice event, it's a great way to get a lot
01:34of young families involved and give them a free activity and also introduce their children
01:40into this kind of environment as well and get them to enjoy not only the cinema in the
01:45junior Donaldson films but also the other activities that are in the space.
01:49Obviously with it being free that's just a huge bonus and we always try and make it more
01:54of an event as well, we always give the kids little juice boxes if they want and yeah it's
02:00just a really super cute day.
02:03So last year it was a record breaking event for us, we had over 95,000 people attend across
02:08the six weeks holiday and it's not only just great for all those families that can attend
02:12and enjoy a free day out, it's also really impactful for the businesses around as well.
02:17Last year we monitored that there was a £2.2 million economic impact from the Old Elm Square
02:22activities alone which is just really fantastic for the city.
02:26So Summer in the City will be coming back this year as well which is a really nice event that
02:29is mainly based down on the Quayside.
02:31It ranges from activities like movement based things like yoga and dance and then also some
02:37nice kids clubs and some other kind of wellbeing wellness activities as well for all age rangers.
02:44Named one of the Sunday Times top 10 things to do in the UK, Screen on the Green is part
02:49of anyone's wider efforts to bring free family friendly events to Newcastle City Centre and encourage
02:55to repeat visits all summer long.
