00:00I just want to start by asking you, what do you make of this idea of reopening the prison at Alcatraz?
00:05Well, I think it's a pretty fascinating idea.
00:07I mean, you know, President Trump seems to never sleep and he's just coming up with ideas every second of the day.
00:12This is one that, look, it's not like it's a practical necessity to reopen the space that's been closed since 1963.
00:21But it's a symbolic one and it's a pretty powerful message.
00:24I mean, Alcatraz was viewed as an impregnable prison, an inescapable prison.
00:29They had 14 attempts in their 29 years.
00:32Most people think none were successful because, number one, it was high security.
00:36Number two, really cold waters with strong currents and great white sharks.
00:40So not a place that anyone really had a great chance of success, even if they got through the walls.
00:46Although there's one kind of mysterious escape attempt that people still talk about.
00:49But look, the bottom line is he's sending a message and it's dominating some of the news coverage for him to talk about Alcatraz.
00:55Alcatraz, it strikes some fear in the hearts of some as a very difficult place.
01:01But I'll tell you, from being around criminal justice for, oh, I don't know, 35 years now,
01:06some of the federal penitentiaries that are there to be for the worst offenders are pretty severe circumstances.
01:13They may have.
01:14But...
01:14Amen.
01:15You
