We went out into Manchester to ask people on the street about the ways that they can feel safe when walking around the region - are there apps that they rely on or do things such as lighting and a police presence help?

00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name is Derek Euston-Betz and today I'm going out onto the streets of Manchester to ask people about what they do to feel safe in a neighbourhood.
00:07We want to know what their own view is, if they feel uncomfortable, how do they try and relax themselves, and secondly, what makes them feel more comfortable.
00:13I have an app called Life360, which means that, you know, you can track people with it, like your friend, your close friends and family.
00:22Lighting, public transport, stuff, roads like this one, I'm going to feel like 10 times safer rather than like boxed in down alleyways.
00:32And I suppose it was as well, like people around you instantly make you feel safer.
00:36And I know, especially in Manchester, I feel like I've been in those situations before where people have helped me out, strangers, just because they don't have to, because we have that kind of culture.
00:46And also, I think maybe a police presence would probably be very, very much advised.
00:51So I had an incident at the tram stop here, which unfortunately, because there was no police officer or anything of that.
00:57It's nothing, you know, could happen really.
