00:00Hello and welcome to People on the Street. I'm Thiogby Smith and today I'm out in Manchester
00:04asking people about the police. And that's because a recent YouGov survey has shown that 52% of
00:08people no longer trust them. So we want to ask today what the police could do to earn back the
00:14public's trust. If there's any little changes they could make or something more sweeping.
00:17The police I've encountered have been quite nice.
00:20Like social media puts a light on everything they've been getting away with now so they
00:24can't really get away with it no more. That's kind of what's broken the trust for a minute.
00:28I've not been in situations like that to have a say whether I trust them or not.
00:33However from a broader scale as a person of colour
00:36obviously there's going to be a little bit of worry in the system in general.
00:40Trust them again. Trust one of those things that's hard to build once you lose it innit.
00:45I feel like if you're going to be a policeman or like a security guard you're either doing
00:48it for the right reasons where you want to help people and you want to protect people
00:51or you're just on a power trip.
00:53It's a human nature.
00:55Which is a sad fact because when they do their job it's overlooked even though it shouldn't be.
