We went out into Manchester to ask people on the street about their views on community support officers.

00:00Hi, my name's Theo and this is People on the Street.
00:02Today I'm out in Manchester asking people about community policing.
00:05And that's because here in Manchester, as with everywhere else in the country,
00:09we have police officers and we have community support officers.
00:12We want to know if people understand the differences between the two roles
00:15and whether they'd like to see funding pushed back towards the police
00:19or whether they understand why community support officers are so important.
00:23I know for so many as a CSO, Community Support Officer,
00:27that's more about social support than it is enforcing rules.
00:31Yeah, I think they should just put money into both, to be honest,
00:34if they're both doing it for the good.
00:37If it's all for the greater good, then why not?
00:38Then why not?
00:39The difference largely is one of them is reactionary and the other one's preventative.
00:45Because if you've got community policing,
00:47it means that actually you're investing in your community for taking the time.
00:51And it's less about just catching people when they mess up
00:55and more about actively stopping the things that are happening in the first place.
