00:00Well, as far as brains go, I got the lion's shab.
00:03Welcome to Ms. Mojo.
00:05And today, we're counting down our picks for the time Scar from The Lion King franchise was just speaking his truth.
00:11Pay attention! My words are a matter of pride!
00:18Number 10. No, anything but that. The Lion King.
00:23After Mufasa's death and Simba running off, it seems Scar has turned Zazu into his own personal radio.
00:30Nobody knows the trouble I've seen.
00:38Nobody knows my sorrow.
00:42No shock that Zazu's song choice is a bit on the bleak side.
00:46Scar, of course, demands something with a peppier beat.
00:49You know how some songs just burrow into your brain and refuse to leave?
00:52Sing something with a little bounce in it.
00:57It's a small world after all.
00:59No! No! Anything but that.
01:02Anyone who's ever been on the It's a Small World ride, or worse, been stuck on it while it's broken down,
01:08can tell you that one clings to your soul.
01:10So yes, Scar, totally get it.
01:12Although now we're stuck singing I've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts for the rest of the day.
01:16So thanks for that, guys. Really.
01:18I've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts, diddly-dee-dee-dee-dee. There they are, standing in a row.
01:25Beat once more, once more, as big as your head.
01:28Number 9. Wonderful.
01:30Another misfit stray we're not supposed to eat.
01:33Mufasa, the Lion King.
01:35If you ever wondered how Mufasa ended up with a red-billed hornbill and a mandrill on his royal court,
01:40the 2024 prequel clears it up.
01:43After escaping an attack on their pride,
01:45the Lion Brothers, now joined by Sarabi and her scout Zazu,
01:49stumble across what looks like dinner.
01:51I don't think you understand what's about to happen.
01:54There's no place for you to go.
01:55I am going forward.
01:57I seriously doubt that.
01:59It is easy to doubt everything when you know nothing.
02:03But they quickly learn that eating this particular primate would be a mistake.
02:07Turns out, he's their key to moving forward.
02:10Earlier, Taka was also denied the chance to eat Zazu.
02:13And look, we all know anger is real.
02:15That Zazu, don't eat him.
02:17You heard her, do not eat me.
02:19You can't always control what you say, or nearly eat, when it kicks in.
02:24Chin up, Scar.
02:25Maybe you'll have better luck with the next misfit you eat.
02:27Sorry, neat.
02:28I've had enough of this.
02:31Taka, do not eat him.
02:33Wonderful.
02:33Another misfit stray we're not supposed to eat.
02:36Number 8.
02:37I am the king.
02:38I can do whatever I want.
02:40The Lion King.
02:41Unfortunately, we're all too familiar with this type.
02:44They're the ones who, the second they get any power,
02:47or in Scar's case, steal it,
02:49let it go straight to their heads.
02:51The dawning of a new era,
02:54in which Lion and Hyena come together,
02:58in a great and glorious future.
03:01Scar struts around like a visionary,
03:04rules like a tyrant,
03:05and delegates like someone who's never seen a to-do list.
03:08The Hyenas cheer on command,
03:10the Savannah turns into a wasteland,
03:12and Scar still insists it's not his problem.
03:15Yes, Scar.
03:16Where is your hunting party?
03:18They're not doing their job.
03:20Scar, there is no food.
03:22The herds have moved on.
03:23No, you're just not looking hard enough.
03:25He's the kind of king who couldn't lead a hunt
03:27if the prey lined up for him,
03:28because he's too busy reveling in the title.
03:31Sarabi tries to reason with him,
03:33but Scar's not hearing it.
03:35He's king, and that's all that matters.
03:37We must leave Pride Rock.
03:38We're not going anywhere.
03:40Then you have sentenced us to death.
03:42Then so be it.
03:43You can't do that.
03:44I am a king.
03:45I can do whatever I want.
03:47Number 7.
03:48I Answer to No One.
03:50The Lion King.
03:51In the animated version of this scene,
03:53Scar is menacing, but in a comical way.
03:56Yet in the 2019 remake,
03:57they somehow make it feel even darker,
03:59to the point where we had to remind ourselves,
04:02yes, this is still a family-friendly Disney movie.
04:04His majesty has requested an audience.
04:07Upon his entrance, you will rise and genuflect.
04:10Zazu, you've made me lose my lunch.
04:14When Zazu tells him he's expected to rise
04:16when his brother enters and answer to him,
04:19Scar's response is simple.
04:21You will answer to Mufasa
04:22for missing the ceremony this morning.
04:24I answer to No One.
04:26If he chose to skip his one and only nephew's
04:28presentation ceremony,
04:29he'd already made it clear that he answers to No One.
04:32If we were Zazu, we'd probably back away after that,
04:35before enduring more of Scar's wrath.
04:37Or worse, almost ending up as his lunch.
04:40It is forbidden to eat a member of the king's court!
04:43Ow!
04:44Please!
04:45Stop it!
04:47Number 6.
04:49Be prepared.
04:50The Lion King.
04:51You know how villains left a monologue so long
04:53that the heroes have just enough time
04:55to swoop in and save the day?
04:57Scar is way too smart for that.
04:58When at last I am given my dues
05:01and injustice deliciously swear
05:05Be prepared.
05:08Be prepared is hardly deceptive.
05:11It's more of an oddly honest manifesto
05:13with a lot more flair.
05:15He lays out his plans.
05:16Manipulate.
05:17Dominate.
05:18Take what's his.
05:19No sugarcoating.
05:20No hiding behind political jargon.
05:23And who needs subtlety?
05:24Though I may have to see,
05:27the point that I must emphasize is
05:31you won't get a sniff without me!
05:34In fact,
05:35Be Prepared is probably the most real moment
05:37in the whole movie.
05:39Scar's not pretending to be anything he's not,
05:41he's just that upfront about his evil.
05:44It's terrifying.
05:45But in a strange way,
05:46it's more transparent
05:47than most power-hungry leaders
05:49who hide behind smoke and mirrors.
05:51Be king undisputed,
05:53respected, saluted,
05:54and seen for the wonder I am.
05:58Yes, my teeth and ambitions are fared.
06:02Be prepared.
06:05Number 5.
06:06Oh, I shall practice my curtsy.
06:08The Lion King.
06:09When you think about it,
06:10the warning signs were there from the start.
06:12Sarabi and I didn't see you
06:14at the presentation of Simba.
06:16That was today?
06:18Oh, I feel simply awful.
06:22Must have slipped my mind.
06:24This isn't just some lion sulking
06:26about the royal pecking order.
06:28It's an outcast who spent years
06:29imagining life with a crown,
06:31growing more bitter by the minute.
06:33Scar speaks in sarcasm,
06:35laced with venom.
06:36He doesn't fake remorse or politeness,
06:38and when he does,
06:39it's laughably obvious.
06:41Sure, he's snarky,
06:42but also brutally honest.
06:44Well, I was first in line
06:45until the little hairball was born.
06:48That hairball is my son
06:50and your future king.
06:53Oh, I shall practice my curtsy.
06:56He's not playing nice,
06:57not bowing to the air,
06:58and definitely not hiding his resentment.
07:01If Mufasa is regal restraint,
07:04Scar's the guy in the corner,
07:05muttering what everyone's too polite to say.
07:07He's not loyal,
07:09not happy,
07:10and not going to pretend otherwise.
07:12Don't turn your back on me, Scar.
07:14Oh no, Mufasa.
07:16Perhaps you shouldn't turn your back on me.
07:18Number 4.
07:20Because we're lions,
07:21as in lion.
07:23Mufasa, the Lion King.
07:25Remember when we talked about
07:26how Mufasa and company
07:27ended up joining forces with Rafiki?
07:29Well, as the lions size up dinner,
07:31they quickly realize
07:32this isn't your average mandrill.
07:34Okay, help us get to Mulele,
07:36and we will let you live.
07:37Do we have a deal?
07:38No.
07:39What?
07:40Why?
07:41Rafiki will let you live.
07:44For one, he's not even slightly rattled
07:46by being surrounded by
07:47three lions and a hornbill.
07:49If we were in Rafiki's place,
07:50we'd probably be sweating.
07:52Taka definitely thinks he should be.
07:54Who has time to put on airs
07:55when dinner is walking away?
07:57A flea can trouble a lion
07:59more than a lion can trouble a flea.
08:01He lays bare the raw truth
08:03of how he sees the world.
08:04Lions are supposed to inspire fear.
08:07Period.
08:08So when Rafiki doesn't flinch,
08:10Scar's whole worldview short circuits.
08:12And he reacts the only way he knows how.
08:14Sarcasm,
08:15ego,
08:15and full-volume projection.
08:17You can try to run,
08:19but I'm afraid you won't get very far.
08:21And why would I run from you?
08:23Because we're lions.
08:26As in,
08:27lions.
08:27Number 3.
08:30Well,
08:30forgive me for not leaping for joy.
08:32The Lion King.
08:34Poor Simba,
08:34he's been dragged into all this intergenerational drama,
08:37and he has no idea.
08:39My dad just showed me the whole kingdom.
08:41And I'm gonna rule it all.
08:44Yes.
08:45Well,
08:46forgive me for not leaping for joy.
08:48Bad back,
08:49you know.
08:49He trots up to his uncle Scar,
08:51beaming about his royal future,
08:53and is met with all the warmth of a cold sardine.
08:56Which tracks?
08:56Scar did ghost his birth ceremony.
08:58He could have just said congrats
09:00and moved on like a functioning adult.
09:02But Scar doesn't do polite formalities.
09:04Hey Uncle Scar,
09:05when I'm king,
09:07what'll that make you?
09:08A monkey's uncle.
09:10You're so weird.
09:12You have no idea.
09:14Instead,
09:14he slathers his resentment in sarcasm and deadpan flair
09:18that,
09:18mercifully,
09:19flies right over Simba's fluffy little head.
09:22Not gonna lie,
09:23we've all pulled to Scar once or twice,
09:24mostly when eye-rolling
09:26isn't considered a socially acceptable response.
09:29That said,
09:29we draw the line at premeditated betrayal.
09:32An elephant graveyard
09:33is no place for a young prince.
09:35Oops.
09:36An elephant what?
09:38Whoa.
09:38Oh dear,
09:39I've said too much.
09:41Number two,
09:42Life's not fair,
09:43is it?
09:44The Lion King.
09:45You're preaching to the choir there,
09:47Scar.
09:47Sure,
09:48we're not chatting with our food
09:49as we prepare to devour it,
09:51but we get it.
09:52Life's not fair,
09:53where is it?
09:55You see,
09:55I,
09:56well I,
09:57shall never be king.
10:00And you,
10:02shall never see the light of another day.
10:05Plus,
10:06we're sure it brought the mouse great comfort
10:08in what it thought would be its final moments
10:10to hear a top-of-the-food-chain mammal
10:11commiserate about life's injustices.
10:14But Scar's not wrong here.
10:15Sometimes life doesn't go as planned,
10:17and that really sucks.
10:18The way I see it,
10:21you and I
10:22are exactly the same.
10:28We both want to find a way out.
10:30And let's not forget,
10:31misery loves company.
10:33Scar proves his point quickly
10:34when an unexpected visitor
10:35leaves him with no lunch
10:36and no closer to being king.
10:38Life really isn't fair,
10:40is it?
10:40Can't a lion just eat his feelings
10:42and a mouse in peace?
10:43Oh, now look Zazu,
10:45you made me lose my lunch.
10:46Ha!
10:47You'll lose more than that
10:48when the king gets through with you.
10:49He's as mad as a hippo with a hernia.
10:51Ooh,
10:53I quiver with fear.

11:11Number 1.
11:12I'm Surrounded by Idiots
11:14The Lion King
11:15You know those people
11:17who stay silent
11:18but their face
11:18practically has subtitles?
11:20Well,
11:21in this moment,
11:21Scar speaks for them all.
11:23Surely we lions
11:24are not that bad?
11:26Oh.
11:27Oh, Scar,
11:29it's just you.
11:29You were afraid
11:30it was somebody important.
11:32Yeah,
11:32you don't like Mufasa.
11:33Yeah.
11:34I see.
11:34We've all been there,
11:36trapped in an absolute
11:37circus of incompetence.
11:39But instead of calling it out,
11:40most of us just mutter
11:41under our breath,
11:42or if we're feeling bold,
11:44throw in an eye roll
11:44when no one's looking.
11:46I mean,
11:46you're one of us.
11:47I mean,
11:47you're our pal.
11:48Charmed.
11:49Oh,
11:49I like that.
11:51He's not king,
11:52but he's still so proper.
11:54Think about all the hyenas
11:55you've had to deal with,
11:56whether in school,
11:57at work,
11:58or, you know,
11:58plotting a coup
11:59against your brother.
12:00As we grit our teeth
12:01and take a deep breath,
12:03we're all secretly wishing
12:04we had Scar's guts
12:05to just broadcast
12:06our unfiltered truth
12:07for the world to hear.
12:08I'm surrounded by idiots.
12:12Which Scar quote
12:12made you roar in agreement?
12:14Let us know in the comments.
12:16Truth,
12:17but truth is in the eye
12:18of the behold.
12:19You're welcome.
12:20You're welcome.
