Transcript
00:00I don't know what that means. I need you to tell me what to do. What should I do? How do I get to you?
00:07Welcome to Ms. Mojo. And today, we're counting down our picks for the most iconic TV scenes to air during the 2010s.
00:14I mean, how sometimes you just find things.
00:21Number 10. David S. Pumpkins, Saturday Night Live.
00:25America's biggest variety comedy series had several off-the-wall sketches during the second decade of the 21st century we could have chosen.
00:32Although the bizarre Diner Lobster and gut-busting Close Encounter sketches were certainly contenders,
00:38nothing quite matches the appeal of this utterly cursed elevator ride.
00:42How's it hanging? I'm David Pumpkins, and I'm gonna scare the hell out of you.
00:49A couple riding a haunted elevator find themselves more confused than scared
00:54when they repeatedly encounter David S. Pumpkins and his two skeleton dancers on multiple floors.
01:00Why are you a part of this ride?
01:03To do this!
01:04He's not a reference or anything. He's... his own thing.
01:17Tom Hanks is grinning perfection in the role, and the sketch's popularity is as indescribable as the character himself.
01:24Any questions?
01:28Number 9. America is not the greatest country in the world.
01:32The Newsroom. Aaron Sorkin may be best known for his movies and The West Wing,
01:36but he's done some good TV in the 2010s, too.
01:40The debut episode of this news drama came out swinging with this impressive monologue.
01:44And with a straight face, you're gonna tell students that America is so star-spangled awesome
01:49that we're the only ones in the world who have freedom?
01:51Canada has freedom. Japan has freedom.
01:54The UK, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Australia, Belgium has freedom.
01:59When moderate anchor Will McAvoy is asked what makes the USA the greatest country in the world,
02:05he replies that it isn't.
02:07After he's pressed, McAvoy goes into a lengthy speech,
02:10detailing the ways America lags behind its peers and how the nation no longer lives up to its legacy.
02:15We lead the world in only three categories.
02:18Number of incarcerated citizens per capita, number of adults who believe angels are real,
02:23and defense spending, where we spend more than the next 26 countries combined, 25 of whom are allies.
02:28Now, none of this is the fault of a 20-year-old college student,
02:30but you nonetheless are, without a doubt, a member of the worst period, generation, period, ever, period.
02:36It's wonderfully acted and manages to capture the zeitgeist of Americans' general dissatisfaction
02:41with their country during this time, or any time, to be honest.
02:45First step in solving any problem is recognizing there is one.
02:48America is not the greatest country in the world anymore.
02:59Enough?
03:00Number 8. Super Bowl Sunday. This is Us.
03:04Some big moments you can see coming.
03:06Many fans speculated on patriarch Jack Pearson's death before this episode,
03:10but no one was ready for it when it happened.
03:12On the evening of Super Bowl Sunday, a fire starts in the Pearson's home.
03:17Jack heroically helps his family and their dog escape the blaze.
03:29However, when being treated at the hospital for inhaling smoke,
03:32Jack suffers a fatal heart attack.
03:34One of the complications of smoke inhalation is that it puts a terrible stress on the lungs,
03:40therefore the heart.
03:43Your husband went into cardiac arrest.
03:46It was catastrophic, and...
03:50I... I'm afraid we've lost him.
03:53And sure, a broken crockpot being the cause of the fire did feel a little dumb,
03:58but it's a little hard to nitpick when watching his wife Rebecca's heart break.
04:01Number 7. The Priest's Decision, Fleabag
04:21The eponymous Fleabag rarely has her life together,
04:25yet her unlikely romance with the equally unnamed hot priest helps her come out of her shell.
04:29The priest, meanwhile, is torn between his love for her and his devotion to God.
04:34It isn't until the show's final scene that we see his decision.
04:37It's God, isn't it?
04:43Yeah.
04:50Wow.
04:51Despite both of them declaring their love for each other,
04:54the priest still chooses his faith.
04:56And while another show might have emphasized the sadness of the moment,
05:01it's still a moment of growth for both of them.
05:03I love you.
05:07And then I don't...
05:09No, let's just leave that out there just for a second on its own.
05:14I love you.
05:15Their parting and the show's conclusion are ultimately optimistic.
05:19Parting is such sweet sorrow,
05:21but this departure is a little more sweet than sorrowful.
05:23This bus is not magically coming.
05:25I think I'll walk.
05:26Okay.
05:33See you Sunday?
05:34I'm joking, you're never, ever allowed in my church again.
05:41I love you too.
05:42Number six.
05:43Elizabeth confronts Philip, the crown.
05:46There are many memorable scenes in the semi-historical series about Queen Elizabeth II.
05:50However, this is perhaps the highlight of the earlier seasons.
05:55The long, simmering tensions between her and her husband, Prince Philip, explode in this scene.
06:00Stephen Ward.
06:04Who?
06:09The osteopath.
06:12Dreadful man.
06:14What about him?
06:15After a scandal breaks involving Stephen Ward, an osteopath Philip had previously seen,
06:20the Queen confronts Philip about whether he was involved in Ward's other activities.
06:24Switzerland also happens to be the headquarters for the World Wildlife Fund, of which I'm patron.
06:31But I can see that this is a question of appearance versus reality.
06:35No, because some things can only be perceived one way because they only have one meaning.
06:40Such as?
06:40Philip denies being involved with Ward or his wild parties or having an affair.
06:46And then, Elizabeth reveals the photo of ballerina Galena Olonova that she'd previously found among Philip's things.
06:53The subtle, yet powerful acting throughout the scene is a true tour de force.
06:57I'm yours.
07:00In.
07:03And not because you've given me a title.
07:05Not because...
07:06Number five.
07:07The One Who Knocks.
07:08Breaking Bad.
07:09The final seasons of this crime drama are loaded with memorable moments.
07:14Although Say My Name or the crawlspace scene were in the running, we went with Walt's dangerous speech.
07:20If it's either that or you getting shot when you open your front door...
07:24I don't want to hear about the police.
07:25You're not some hardened criminal, Walt.
07:27You are in over your head.
07:29That's what we tell them.
07:30That's the truth.
07:31That is not the truth.
07:32Of course it is.
07:34Concerned for Walt's safety and worried that he's unwilling to admit to wanting help,
07:38Skylar urges her husband to go to the police.
07:41She doesn't want him to open the door and get shot.
07:44However, Walt, ever prideful and unwilling to let go of his life of crime,
07:48launches into a speech about his importance.
07:51Without him, a massive drug business would disappear.
07:54Do you know what would happen if I suddenly decided to stop going into work?
07:57A business big enough that it could be listed on the Nasdaq goes belly up.
08:03Disappears.
08:04It ceases to exist without me.
08:06Walt won't get shot opening his door.
08:08He'll be the one who knocks.
08:10It's superb acting not only from Bryan Cranston, but also Anna Gunn,
08:14as her concern seamlessly transforms into terror.
08:18I am the one who knocks.
08:20Number 4.
08:21Sheldon's Nobel Prize Speech, The Big Bang Theory
08:24Given how blunt and uncaring he can come across,
08:27Dr. Sheldon Cooper often alienates people, particularly his friends.
08:31He unfortunately does so in the series finale,
08:34right before he's due to accept his Nobel Prize.
08:37They're abandoning us because you broke their hearts.
08:43I didn't mean to.
08:45I know!
08:46You never mean to!
08:49It's the only reason people tolerate you!
08:52Although his wife Amy's speech is also fantastic,
08:56Sheldon's speech hits us harder.
08:58For once, he sets aside his ego and thanks his family and friends,
09:02expressing what they mean to him, instead of the speech he had prepared.
09:05I have been encouraged, sustained, inspired, and tolerated,
09:14not only by my wife, but by the greatest group of friends anyone ever had.
09:19It's a wonderful moment of growth for Sheldon,
09:22and a great way to cap off this long-running sitcom.
09:25But I want you to know,
09:27in my way,
09:30I love you all.
09:35And I love you.
09:42Number 3.
09:43Christmas Lights, Stranger Things
09:45The first season of this 80s throwback show became a cultural phenomenon.
09:50However, if there's one moment that distills the appeal of Stranger Things,
09:53it's this one.
09:54Joyce Byers is convinced her missing son, Will,
09:57is communicating with her by lighting up some of the Christmas lights in their home.
10:00Are you safe?
10:07When yes and no aren't enough,
10:10she rigs up some lights on the wall corresponding next to letters she's drawn.
10:14While their communication works well at first,
10:17Will's message turns dire when he tells her to run
10:19as the lights begin flickering and a monster rips its way out of the wall.
10:23How do I find you?
10:24What should I do?
10:35The scene encapsulates the show's nostalgic vibes,
10:38as well as its horror and sci-fi genres,
10:40into one tidy package.
10:42Number 2.
10:50Ted Meets the Mother, How I Met Your Mother.
10:53After 9 seasons,
10:54How I Met Your Mother finally delivered on the promise in its title in the final episode.
10:59Ted Mosby goes up to talk to Tracy McConnell at a rainy train station.
11:02Their chemistry is immediate and absolutely adorable.
11:05Wait a second.
11:08This is my umbrella.
11:10I left this umbrella at Cindy's.
11:12You totally stole my umbrella.
11:13What? No, I didn't.
11:15Their banter about an umbrella they've both owned through coincidence,
11:18or destiny,
11:19is rather cute and soon becomes explicitly romantic.
11:23And you left it there.
11:25And I left it there.
11:27And you never thought you'd see it again.
11:29And I never thought I'd see it again.
11:30While some other parts of the finale proved controversial,
11:34this scene is, much like Ted and Tracy together, utterly perfect.
11:38Our only complaint is that we didn't get to see more of their relationship.
11:42And that, kids, is how I met your mother.
11:45Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
11:49Matthew's death, Downton Abbey.
11:51That's how you kill your leading man.
12:03The proposal scene.
12:05Schitt's Creek.
12:06Just when we thought Patrick and David couldn't get any cuter.
12:12Are you sure?
12:15Easiest decision of my life.
12:21The twist.
12:23The good place.
12:24Oh, so the title is ironic.
12:27This is the bad place.
12:39Oh, man.
12:43I believe you.
12:44The leftovers.
12:45After everything.
12:47Of course he does.
12:48And I knew that if I told you what happened,
12:53that you would never believe me.
13:03I believe you.
13:05Negan takes some swings.
13:07The Walking Dead.
13:08Two major character deaths that left us shook.
13:11I need you to know me.
13:14So, back to it.

13:39Number 1.
13:41The Red Wedding.
13:42Game of Thrones.
13:44If there's one show that ruled pop culture in the 2010s, it was Game of Thrones.
13:49And its most discussed scene is easily this one.
13:52At his uncle's wedding, the young king in the north, Robb Stark, his pregnant wife Talisa,
13:56and mother Catelyn are all enjoying the festivities.
13:59That is, until an ominous choice in song, the door being barred,
14:10and a few other hints add up to one conclusion, betrayal.
14:14I haven't shown you the hospitality you deserve.
14:20My king has married and I owe my new queen a wedding gift.
14:25All of them are rapidly stabbed, shot with crossbows, or otherwise killed in rapid succession,
14:34along with all of Robb's men.
14:36It's perhaps the most shocking and brutal thing to grace the small screen during this decade,
14:40and we're still not over it.
14:43The Lannisters send their regards.
14:46Is there a landmark TV moment from the 2010s we forgot?
14:49No need to knock, just come on down to the comments with your picks.
14:52I can't believe you've figured it out.
14:57Oh, God!
14:59You ruined everything, you know that?
