A 29-year-old driver has been detained after his sports utility vehicle (SUV) ploughed into a restaurant in Sitiawan, Perak, on Thursday (May 8) night, killing a 73-year-old woman and injuring seven others.

00:00A 29-year-old driver has been detained after his sports utility vehicle, SUV, plowed into
00:08a fast-food restaurant in Sitiawan Perak on Thursday night, killing a 73-year-old woman
00:14and injuring several others.
00:17Manjung District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Hasbullah Abdurrahman said in the incident
00:22which occurred around 9 p.m., the SUV, driven by the man, was travelling from Kampung Ko
00:28towards Sungai Wangni, when it veered off course at a traffic light intersection and crashed
00:33into the restaurant, hitting eight customers including seven adults and a child.
00:39The victim was pronounced dead at 10.56 p.m. on Thursday after receiving treatment at the
00:44emergency ward of the Sri Manjung Hospital.
00:47The remaining seven victims, including a five-year-old girl, sustained minor injuries and received
00:53treatment at the same hospital.
00:55The driver also sustained injuries in the accident.
00:59The case is being investigated under Section 41, Subsection 1 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
