00:00Israel and Hamas go to war. Rockets, missiles and the PR battle.
00:07Next on Global Pulse.
00:12A comparison of how broadcasters around the world are covering the war in Gaza.
00:18Warning, this segment contains graphic images.
00:23Israel says its goal is to break Hamas, bring it to its knees and force it to beg for a ceasefire.
00:29From the gun battles to the victims, the world media didn't seem to miss an angle in the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
00:37Red alert, Hamas fires two rockets.
00:40Sterot, one mile from Gaza, is under a barrage of attacks.
00:45Burning tears pour down the students' cheeks in Gaza.
00:49The Jews struck our schools so that we cannot learn or study or grow up and learn to fight them.
00:54International journalists have not been allowed into Gaza by Israel.
00:58Israel said the restrictions were to protect journalists.
01:02But Russia today pointed out the hard lesson Jerusalem learned in its last war.
01:07In the Second Lebanese War, we had a problem with many journalists walking around the forces.
01:14While the journalist was describing, this infantry brigade behind me is now entering Lebanon from this position.
01:20And this we cannot allow.
01:23The media restrictions may have had the opposite effect of what Israel intended, according to France's TV sink.
01:30The result is that only images produced by Palestinian journalists are available to Western media.
01:39The Palestinians themselves have attempted to control all of their communications.
01:43Here, they portray their tragedy in all its horror.
01:47In this war of images, hundreds of dead Palestinians clearly weigh greater than a few rockets.
01:54Israel cannot allow images like these to be broadcast across the world for months on end,
01:59and therefore must act quickly, regardless of the cost.
02:03Israel launched an elaborate media offensive, as reported by the online Israel News Network,
02:10which is funded by the Jewish Settlers Movement.
02:13As the war of weapons against Hamas continues, so does the war of words.
02:17And as part of that effort, the IDF has again expanded its YouTube presence,
02:21adding the army's Arabic language spokesman to talk directly to the Arab public in Arabic.
02:27The UAE's Al Arabiya acknowledged Israel's media offensive, but pointed out that Hamas was media-savvy as well.
02:38This large pile of written statements and leaflets dropped by the Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip
02:43is part of Israel's psychological warfare intended to work in tandem with its military campaign on the ground.
02:49Meanwhile, Hamas is trying to counter its psychological war.
02:53Hamas launched a satellite channel and opened dozens of websites for that purpose.
02:58Some broadcast reports on the conflict contain self-serving elements,
03:03including Iran's press TV and Saudi Arabian television.
03:07A Saudi hospital aircraft staffed with medical personnel carrying the third wave of injured Palestinians has arrived in Riyadh.
03:14Our brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have provided us with the necessary medical treatment.
03:20The Saudis are our saviors who were sent to us by God.
03:24Americans frustrated with the mainstream media have turned to press TV,
03:27due in most part to press TV's breaking news coverage
03:30and becoming one of the very few international stations to have reporters inside of Gaza.
03:36Press TV and Al Jazeera questioned whether Americans were getting the whole story.
03:41Images on U.S. networks show Israelis clearing up after another Hamas rocket attack
03:47and stone-throwing Palestinians confronting Israeli troops.
03:51And they have to fight for airtime against a well-coordinated Israeli media campaign.
03:56Take a look at the newspapers. Plenty of stories about Gaza.
03:59But in just about every one, the Israeli position is given priority.
04:03And the pictures generally show Israeli airstrikes or strikes on Gaza,
04:07but not always the impact of those strikes on the people.
04:10News reporting is attempting to be balanced rather than striving for actual accuracy.
04:16So it's somehow equating a handful of tragic Israeli deaths in southern Israel
04:22with hundreds upon hundreds of deaths of people in Gaza.
04:27If you go by this NBC report, the analyst on Press TV was right.
04:32It's been two weeks now since Israel launched its offensive,
04:35and the combined death toll in this war is now almost 800 people.
04:41What NBC failed to say was that, according to Reuters News,
04:45more than 780 of those deaths were Palestinians, while 13 were Israeli.
