10 years Muziekpublique | Luc Mishalle & Rida Barrady (Stitou): Merhaba
Luc en Rida, beter bekend als de kern van het gnawajazz fusion groep Stitou & Mishalle, slagen er nog steeds in om ons te betoveren met hun geslaagde mix and match. In het lied "merhaba" ondergaan we een muzikale degustatie. Het thema, geïnspireerd op traditoneel materiaal, is vrij kort. Daarrond wordt geïmproviseerd, gespeeld en een dialoog gevoerd tussen beide muzikanten. Een sopraansax, een guembri (3-snarig Marokkaanse bas) en de rauwe stem van Stitou; meer is niet nodig om een vermenging van New Yorkse Jazz en traditionele Gnawa muziek tot zijn recht te laten komen.

Mieux connu en tant que membres principaux du groupe Gnawajazz Fusion, Sitou & Mishalle continuent à nous enchanter grâce à leur duo et leur complémentarité. Dans la chanson « Merhaba » nous sommes invités à prendre part à un voyage culturel et musical. Les thèmes inspirant la music Gnawa sont en générale plutôt courts. Ceux-ci servent cependant de point de départ à l'improvisation et au dialogue qu'entretiennent les deux artistes. Un saxophone soprano, un guembri (instrument à corde Marocain) et la voix rauque de Stitou suffisent à expérimenter le mélange incroyable du Jazz New Yorkais et de la music traditionnelle Gnawa

Luc and Rida, better known as the main components of the gnawajazz fusion group Stitou & Mishalle, keep on enchanting us with their wonderful mix and match. In the song 'merhaba' we are offered a musical and cultural journey. The theme, inspired by traditional Gnawa music, is rather short but is used as their starting point for improvisation and dialogue. A soprano sax, a guembri (three snared Moroccan bass) and Stitou's raspy voice is all we need to experience a wonderful mix of New York Jazz and traditional Gnawa music.
