00:00 Live from 42nd Street in New York City, you're watching PIX Morning News.
00:12 All right, traveling the world can definitely broaden your horizons.
00:15 It can also inspire you.
00:17 A new travel magazine sets out to do just that.
00:19 Joining me from afar magazine is its co-founder, Joe Diaz, and he's here to tell us about five
00:24 trips that could inspire a new career.
00:26 Joe, welcome to the show.
00:27 Well, thank you very much.
00:28 Happy to be here.
00:29 It's kind of neat to go away on vacation and get inspired.
00:31 I think a lot of us get that feeling sometimes.
00:33 First thing you want to talk about is Greece.
00:35 I've been, inspired me to appreciate sunsets.
00:37 I don't know about a new career.
00:39 What's the career?
00:40 It's a great place.
00:41 Well, first off, let me say we're really excited to be here.
00:42 Far has put together some great trips, hands-on, fun, experiential.
00:45 I'm going to take you outside the box a little bit and hopefully inspire you to make that
00:49 career change.
00:50 So the first one, Greece.
00:51 Tethys Research Institute.
00:53 You're going to get to work alongside marine biologists where you're tracking dolphins,
00:57 checking out their behavior, and doing a little bit of community outreach, talking to local
01:01 fishermen about how to preserve their most precious resource, the oceans.
01:04 Absolutely.
01:05 It's all about the seafood there in Greece.
01:07 Sounds great.
01:08 All right.
01:09 Next up, we're going to go to Morocco.
01:10 Never been there.
01:11 What's going to inspire you?
01:12 How will I be inspired in Morocco?
01:13 Well, International Kitchen does a trip called Feast for the Senses.
01:16 They're going to take you to Fez, Morocco, a 1,200-year-old city.
01:20 You get to stay in a 14th-century palace, work alongside a professional Moroccan chef,
01:25 and really check out the most amazing spice markets in the world.
01:28 That sounds outstanding.
01:30 Let's go to New Zealand.
01:31 I think I'd be inspired to play golf, but I bet you have something else in mind.
01:35 This is an amazing trip because it's a little bit more creative.
01:39 It's sponsored by the Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms.
01:44 What you get to do here, $30, you go to their website, you check out a whole database of
01:50 their listings.
01:52 For only $30, you get access to some of the most amazing listings in the world for organic
01:56 farms.
01:57 Now, why is New Zealand so big with the organic?
01:59 Well, New Zealand has just been really well-known for their organic.
02:03 They do a lot of great organic wines.
02:05 Hawke's Bay is one of those favorite places to go.
02:09 Have you been to New Zealand?
02:10 I have not been to New Zealand.
02:12 This is going to be my winter break.
02:13 I think that's going to be the trip.
02:14 Lucky man.
02:15 Just get into the travel magazine business and you get to travel.
02:18 That would inspire you.
02:19 Exactly.
02:20 Now, we're going to go to a place that might inspire you for healthcare, you say.
02:24 What is that place?
02:25 Yeah, well, healthcare has kind of been top of mind.
02:27 We're going to take you to Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, where you're going to be working
02:31 alongside doctors and nurses in local daily clinics, hospitals, honing your Spanish skills,
02:39 checking out the Mayan ruins.
02:40 Pretty cool trip.
02:41 Now, are we doing something like this for volunteer work or are you getting paid?
02:46 Well, you know what?
02:47 This is actually a volunteer program.
02:48 This program will run you actually around $1,700 for the trip, but it makes you feel
02:55 good.
02:56 I know a lot of people have gone down to Mexico and done a lot of charity work, same kind
02:58 of way.
02:59 Same kind of way.
03:00 All right, next up, a place I went to last year.
03:01 It was awesome.
03:02 We're talking about Bali, Indonesia.
03:04 We are super pumped about this trip.
03:05 Afar has discovered teaching English and surfing in Bali.
03:09 What you get to do- Good combo.
03:10 I speak English and, yeah, surfing.
03:13 It's a great combo.
03:14 You're going to be able to teach school children, Balinese school children, how to speak English
03:19 and then hang ten with some of the locals on some of the world's best waves.
03:23 Pretty amazing stuff.
03:24 The waves there are really incredible.
03:25 Yeah, it's really exciting.
03:26 All right.
03:27 Have you been to Bali?
03:28 Not yet.
03:29 You got to go to that one.
03:30 Yeah, I know.
03:31 It's fantastic.
03:32 Joe, we thank you for coming in.
03:33 I appreciate it.
