Southern Ontario Meteor Network Sees a Rare Brilliant FireBall Streaking Over Lake Ontario on Sept. 25, 2009 at 10:03 p.m. EDT 01:03 UT Sept 26. The Seven all-sky cameras of Western's Southern Ontario Meteor Network (SOMN) have recorded a brilliant fireball Streaking Across the evening sky over the west end of Lake Ontario Canada. This event is representative of a fireball which produces meteorites, in this case those falling near the town of Grimsby, Ontario. Fireballs occur fairly often - though they often go unnoticed due to weather or time of night - but meteorite droppers such as this are rare -- about once a month over North America.
