Wariness of China could transform Taiwan's political landscape
On Saturday, Taiwanese voters head to the polls to elect a new president and parliament for their self-ruling island. Opposition candidate Tsai Ing-wen is favourite to win the presidency, while President Mai Jing Jeou's ruling party has faced increasing criticism over its strengthening of ties with Beijing. Some in Taiwan fear closer relations with mainland China may threaten the island's democratic institutions, as Clémence Dibout and Clare Lear report.
