KERRVILLE, TEXAS — A 10-year-old special needs child is in a coma and struggling for his life after being severely burned in an extreme bullying incident on Sunday.
Kayden Culp has trouble speaking and hearing and, according to his mother, exhibits autistic behavior that often gets him bullied, reports Fox San Antonio.
On Sunday afternoon, he was with two boys at a vacant lot in Kerrville, Texas, when his playmates took him into a nearby shed. One boy poured gasoline on him. The other set him on fire with a lighter.
The resulting fire burned almost 20 percent of Culp’s body, from his ears to his belly button. He had to be rushed to the hospital, where he remains in a coma.
Police on Wednesday arrested one of Culp’s attackers and charged him with first-degree arson, according to KSAT.
The other attacker’s family may be on the run, with neighbors reportedly witnessing them fleeing their house in the middle of the night.
