Set in Naples, Un Posto al Sole is a daytime drama series, and one of the most-watched television soaps in Italy, broadcast by Rai (the national public broadcasting company). The series began in 1996 and is still running.

In 2015, the series introduced a gay storyline, involving Sandro Ferri and Claudio Parenti, which lasted over 70 episodes until these characters were written out of the show.

In Part 1 of the storyline, Sandro auditions for an acting master class at a local drama academy. Here he meets Claudio, who later confesses to Sandro that he liked him from the very first moment he saw him. One evening Sandro’s father witnesses the two of them kissing and makes things very awkward.

Background information ....

Businessman Roberto Ferri married the heiress of the rich aristocratic Palladini family who own the local Palladini boatyards. After his wife died Roberto married Marina Rezio Giordano (who became Sandro’s stepmother), but they later divorced. The boatyards were left to Sandro in his late mother’s will, but his father runs them until Sandro reaches his 18th birthday (later in the storyline).

Sandro lives with his father but is finding it very difficult as his strict father doesn’t allow him much independence and has very different plans for his son’s future. Sandro is however very close to his half brother Filippo Sartori. Sandro is still in school but he has a great passion for literature and the theatre, and enlists in a short acting masterclass. It is here that he meets Claudio and they are attracted to each other from the start, which leads Sandro to begin questioning his sexuality.
