Often described as Cornwall's most magical Christmas lights and Cornwall's best Christmas Lights, the Mousehole Harbour Lights and Christmas Lights are set around the stunning Mousehole harbour.
Every year around Christmas since 1963, the harbour of this picturesque Penwith village is lit up by lights including a sea monster, ships, a church and a large cat (from the story of the Mousehole cat).
Thousands of people travel from all over Cornwall to see the lights. Car parks are usually full long before it gets dark and roadside parking can often stretch all the way back to Newlyn! However the mile long walk doesn't stop people.
However, if you visit on the 19th December you might find the lights dimmed, this is because on 19th December 1981, a lifeboat was sent in aid of a ship after its engines had failed. The storm was rough and some people said that they had never seen it so bad. Sadly, the lifeboat did not make it. All crew and passengers lost their lives from both the lifeboat and the ship which had failed. This is known as the Penlee Lifeboat Disaster. The Penlee Lifeboat Station is now disused and the grounds is now a memorial garden in memory of the men who died.
