Beef rendang is the most popular dish in Indonesia and is widely known around the globe.
Indonesian Beef rendang is a rich and flavorful beef stew that is slow-cooked together in an aromatic beef rendang paste, lemongrass, and thick coconut cream. It might not be the easiest or the quickest dish to cook but the flavor of this Indonesian rendang is absolutely delicious. Thick gravy, dark color, and tender meat are what you’re looking for.
The best cuts for making beef rendang is using beef shanks, but any cut of beef with plenty of connective tissue will also work well, you can also use chuck. Do not cut the meat too small as the meat can break out into smaller pieces and you will lose the texture of the best rendang you'll ever eat.

How to cook beef rendang, you’ll need :

4 candlenuts
6 shallots
3 garlic
1.5 cm galangal
2 cm ginger
1.5 turmeric
2 big red chili
2 tbsp oil
1/2 tsp coriander
1/4 cumin
1 tbsp salt
1 tbsp oil
2 lemongrass
4 bay leaves
3 lime leaves
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 tbsp asam kandis
800 ml coconut cream
600 gr beef shanks
