TRIBUTE TO THE 'SPRINT QUEEN'

The Philippine Sports Commission pays tribute to the late Lydia De Vega through an LED billboard presentation outside the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2022. De Vega died on Wednesday, August 10, after a four-year battle with breast cancer. She was 57. De Vega was once dubbed the fastest woman in Asia, winning the gold medal in the 100-meter race in the 1982 and 1986 Asian Games and ruling the sprint double in the Asian Athletics Championship in 1983 and 1987. She is also a nine-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist.
