00:00 So let's just have a good clean fight, okay?
00:02 Most of all, remember to defend yourselves at all times, okay?
00:05 Both fighters taking their final instructions from the referee now
00:10 as we welcome viewers on BBC iPlayer and Fightzone TV
00:14 here at the Magna Centre in Rotherham.
00:16 We've had a great undercard, the atmosphere has built
00:19 and we get our first one of the main card underway
00:22 with Jordan Barker-Porter and Vader Masiokia-Tai.
00:27 This should be a good one, this.
00:30 Eighth outing for Jordan Barker-Porter, this is.
00:34 And alongside me this evening, I have the pleasure of
00:38 Hannah Rankin, former WBA and IBO champion with me
00:41 and also WBA interim world champion,
00:44 British and Commonwealth champion, of course, Derrick Matthews.
00:48 Real pleasure to have you both alongside us this evening.
00:52 We've had a great undercard so far and we're really excited, of course,
00:55 building up to top of the bill, British flyweight title,
00:59 Tommy Frank and Jay Harris.
01:01 We've got some great fights between now and then, including this one.
01:05 Jordan Barker-Porter, I've done quite a bit of sparring with her
01:09 when I visited the North East when I was, obviously, before I retired, Hannah.
01:13 What's impressed you about the start to her pro career?
01:17 29 years old, of course.
01:19 She did box this opponent on her debut in September '21
01:22 and won on points.
01:24 What have you made of her start to the pro ranks?
01:26 I think she's doing well, you know, taking her time here
01:30 and she's going to be looking to make a statement tonight.
01:33 Obviously, it's exciting to be boxing on the BBC, fantastic opportunity.
01:38 But, yes, she can have that quite relaxed stance
01:41 and when she wants to, she uses really nice footwork just to get out of the way,
01:45 just as she says, perfectly there, perfect timing.
01:49 So, yes, I'm looking forward to watching this one.
01:52 And, of course, shorter rounds for the women's fights, Debbie.
01:55 It would be, obviously, three-minute rounds for the men's.
01:58 For those who don't get to watch much boxing might not be aware,
02:02 it's two-minute rounds for the women, which does tend to make it, at times,
02:06 more ferocious because you've got a shorter time
02:08 within which to put your stamp on each round.
02:11 Yes, and again, female boxing has took off massively, thanks to yourselves, girls,
02:16 and the other current champions we've got out there.
02:19 Going back to it, from the first bell, you've got to get off the traps nice and early.
02:24 It's only a three-minute round, so you're in a bit of a rush, sort of.
02:28 And, for me, that was a perfect round for Jordan to control the round,
02:34 put the opponent in where she wanted to put her,
02:37 and I'm looking forward to as the rounds go on, come round three and four,
02:41 I think she'll have got her timing right and she'll have her, you know, in a comfortable lead.
02:46 Of course, a familiar opponent for Jordan Barcaporta,
02:49 as she has faced Maceo Kayate before, that being on her debut,
02:53 so a lot's happened since then, of course, this now her eighth bout,
02:57 and so she'll be looking for areas of improvement on that debut, of course.
03:02 There's a lot to take in on your debut, including the occasion and the atmosphere,
03:05 it's a lot to take in.
03:07 She's got a bit more experience under her belt now,
03:09 so she'll be looking to impress and improve upon that debut performance,
03:14 but a good start for Barcaporta.
03:18 I think we unanimously give her that first round.
03:21 She's got a nice, sharp jab that she's used,
03:24 because it does appear to me that Maceo Kayate does have the advantage in reach.
03:28 She's got long levers, not a great difference in height,
03:31 but certainly seems to have the longer reach.
03:35 But choosing that low lead hand, Barcaporta,
03:37 which can make it difficult for your opponent,
03:40 because it's out of your line of vision sometimes,
03:43 and when that jab snaps up it can make it a little bit difficult.
03:47 Looks like it could be a tasty one, this, when they get in close, Hannah,
03:50 and some of these exchanges are building up,
03:53 getting a bit more fiery, which is good to see already.
03:55 Absolutely.
03:57 Maceo Kayate is coming off two wins just recently,
03:59 so she's going to be confident coming in there.
04:01 She's been in with a lot of the female fighters here in the UK,
04:05 and she's quite well known.
04:07 You're quite right in that, some of the ones she's been in with.
04:10 She's gone through the Bolbing Point's losses, she hasn't been stopped.
04:13 So the likes of Carys Artinstall, of course, Olympian,
04:17 Caroline Dubois, another Olympian,
04:19 and just excelling and having an incredible pro career,
04:22 building on what was an exceptional amateur career.
04:24 Natasha Jonas, obviously Fighter of the Year,
04:27 who's exceptional as well.
04:29 Ebony Jones, who was a great amateur, who's made a good start in the pros.
04:32 So she's been in there with some top-class fighters,
04:36 and she's not just been in there, but survived the rounds.
04:38 So we'd expect a tough one here.
04:41 And again, since Jordan's debut in 2021,
04:45 Adie since then as well has had her own fair share of learning fights.
04:50 So we're expecting a different proposition from her tonight as well, Hannah.
04:53 Absolutely, and she landed a good backhand there just a few seconds ago.
04:58 So I think both girls, they've both improved since when they first met each other.
05:03 So I think it's always great to see this.
05:05 And often in the women's game, you do come across opponents more than once,
05:08 because there's a smaller pool of us than there is of the guys.
05:11 But both girls giving it a really good go here,
05:14 and it's going to be a good, solid bout this one, I think.
05:17 How do you think Jordan's adapted from the first round to the secondary?
05:22 I thought she'd come out a bit more aggressive.
05:25 She got it with a few more shots than she did in the first round.
05:29 And that was a closer round.
05:31 I still had it. She's still got enough to win the round.
05:35 But, maybe she'll come out and have a little go, a bit more on it.
05:40 So, as we were stating before, Vagie's coming off two wins,
05:43 so I feel Jordan's got to knock the confidence out of her early on.
05:48 Take control, and over the next couple of rounds,
05:51 put her on a little bit more, and see what she has got.
05:54 And Jordan herself is coming off a loss.
05:56 So, her first loss of her career.
05:58 So, she wants to put those demons to bed.
06:01 And Vagie's coming in with confidence.
06:03 So, it's going to be an exciting fight, see how it unfolds.
06:08 But that was a good round. Both girls up the pace again.
06:12 I think the next round can play a big part in it,
06:14 to see what way it can go later on.
06:16 Absolutely.
06:17 I think that the first rounds would go to Barca-Porta
06:20 on the basis that she is more consistent, isn't she?
06:23 She's having a moment of success, Masi Akaite,
06:26 but Barca-Porta is certainly the more consistent
06:29 with landing her shots.
06:32 But I think this one could take off a little bit
06:35 in these latter rounds, because when they do come in close
06:38 and exchange, they're both quite prepared
06:41 to let the hands go, aren't they?
06:43 Absolutely.
06:44 We'll see a little bit more of that.
06:46 I think that's what fans are enjoying about women's boxing,
06:48 it's fast-paced, it's more of a sprint, like Derek was saying.
06:52 It's exciting, and you can't turn away for a split second
06:56 because you never know what's going to happen next.
06:58 A lot of them are fairly closely matched.
07:00 They're not predictable in the sense that the home fighter
07:03 is always going to win and have it their own way.
07:06 A lot of these girls come to put it on them and fight.
07:09 We've seen that from Masi Akaite.
07:11 Whether she's got enough in the locker is yet to be seen,
07:13 but she's certainly giving Barca-Porta plenty to think about.
07:16 Anna Carverdon seems to be going in the fight.
07:19 She's got a lot of power, she's got a lot of confidence.
07:22 She's got a lot of confidence.
07:24 She's got a lot of confidence.
07:26 She seems quite relaxed at the centre ring, doesn't she?
07:29 Composed, not forcing it, she's waiting and waiting,
07:32 and trying to sort of wait for Jordan to make a move.
07:36 If she doesn't, she initiates the attack herself,
07:39 which again, that can impress upon judges or referees,
07:42 whoever it is, obviously whoever you're trying to impress,
07:46 you're going to be able to see that.
07:49 >> And also being on those big stages with some of those
07:52 opponents she's been in with, it gives you confidence.
07:55 >> You survive the rounds.
07:57 >> Exactly, and experience of being in the ring under those
08:00 big lights like she is tonight.
08:02 I think that's why we're seeing the confidence side come out of
08:05 her.
08:07 >> There's a real array of styles and actually weights,
08:10 because they're not all the same weight, that list of
08:13 weights, and she's got a lot of weight, and she's got a lot of
08:16 confidence.
08:18 She's got a big hitter like Dubois, and somebody who's got
08:21 that hand speed like Carys Artinstall, a real variety of
08:24 opponents she's had to adapt to.
08:26 >> I'm picking her to win that round.
08:28 I thought she won that round.
08:30 >> I think she was busier in that round, wasn't she?
08:33 Like I say, you could see there was times when she seemed to be
08:36 waiting for Jordan to come at her and then she could counter,
08:39 and when she didn't, she was proactive, initiated the attack,
08:42 and then she was able to take the fight to them and not wait.
08:45 I think she edged that one.
08:47 So we've got Barca-Porta two rounds up at the moment after the
08:52 first three.
08:54 So at the halfway point now, we see in the replay here, Masi
08:58 Akaite happy to take the fight to Barca-Porta.
09:02 Some good exchanges happening here.
09:05 >> She's got a good jab as well.
09:07 >> Neither of them are finding quite the right range, are they,
09:10 to get the shots off cleanly.
09:12 But I think we're getting closer to that, and we'll see how
09:15 Barca-Porta adapts now.
09:17 I think she is going to have to up the work rate anyway to match
09:21 Masi Akaite, who seems to be well conditioned and no signs of
09:25 slowing down.
09:27 She's made another sharp start to this fourth round here.
09:31 Solid behind that jab.
09:33 Good with the feet.
09:35 She's able to step back when she needs to out of range.
09:39 >> She's got a good jab.
09:41 >> She's got a good jab.
09:43 >> She's got a good jab.
09:45 >> She's got a good jab.
09:47 >> She's got a good jab.
09:49 >> She's got a good jab.
09:51 >> She's got a good jab.
09:53 >> She's got a good jab.
09:55 >> She's got a good jab.
09:57 >> She's got a good jab.
09:59 >> She's got a good jab.
10:01 >> She's got a good jab.
10:03 >> She's got a good jab.
10:05 >> She's got a good jab.
10:07 >> She's got a good jab.
10:09 >> She's got a good jab.
10:11 >> She's got a good jab.
10:13 >> She's got a good jab.
10:15 >> She's got a good jab.
10:17 >> She's got a good jab.
10:19 >> She's got a good jab.
10:21 >> She's got a good jab.
10:23 >> She's got a good jab.
10:25 >> She's got a good jab.
10:27 >> She's got a good jab.
10:29 >> She's got a good jab.

10:55 >> She's got a good jab.
10:57 >> She's got a good jab.
10:59 >> She's got a good jab.
11:01 >> She's got a good jab.
11:03 >> She's got a good jab.
11:05 >> She's got a good jab.
11:07 >> She's got a good jab.
11:09 >> She's got a good jab.
11:11 >> She's got a good jab.
11:13 >> Big right hand.
11:15 >> The momentum.
11:17 >> She's forcing a fight as well.
11:19 She's taking Porto back.
11:21 >> I think that was quite a close
11:23 round.
11:25 How did you two have that one?
11:27 >> I want to have that even.
11:29 >> Definitely.
11:31 >> We're allowed to say even.
11:33 There we go.
11:35 Thank goodness that isn't our job.
11:37 >> Yeah.
11:39 >> We don't have that pressure.
11:41 We can just enjoy it.
11:43 >> It's a big right hand.
11:45 >> We don't have to actually judge it.
11:47 >> It's quite nice.
11:49 >> Lovely left hook there from
11:51 Nassir Kaif.
11:53 >> Big right hand.
11:55 >> We're seeing some of the
11:57 highlights here in the replay.
11:59 >> It's a big right hand.
12:01 >> It's a big right hand.
12:03 >> It's a big right hand.
12:05 >> It's a big right hand.
12:07 >> It's a big right hand.
12:09 >> It's a big right hand.
12:11 >> It's a big right hand.
12:13 >> It's a big right hand.
12:15 >> It's a big right hand.
12:17 >> It's a big right hand.
12:19 >> It's a big right hand.
12:21 >> It's a big right hand.
12:23 >> It's a big right hand.
12:25 >> It's a big right hand.
12:27 >> It's a big right hand.
12:29 >> It's a big right hand.
12:31 >> It's a big right hand.
12:33 >> It's a big right hand.
12:35 >> It's a big right hand.
12:37 >> It's a big right hand.
12:39 >> It's a big right hand.
12:41 >> It's a big right hand.
12:43 >> It's a big right hand.
12:45 >> It's a big right hand.
12:47 >> It's a big right hand.
12:49 >> It's a big right hand.
12:51 >> It's a big right hand.
12:53 >> It's a big right hand.
12:55 >> It's a big right hand.
12:57 >> It's a big right hand.
12:59 >> It's a big right hand.
13:01 >> It's a big right hand.
13:03 >> It's a big right hand.
13:05 >> It's a big right hand.
13:07 >> It's a big right hand.
13:09 >> It's a big right hand.
13:11 >> It's a big right hand.
13:13 >> It's a big right hand.
13:15 >> It's a big right hand.
13:17 >> It's a big right hand.
13:19 >> It's a big right hand.
13:21 >> It's a big right hand.
13:23 >> It's a big right hand.
13:25 >> It's a big right hand.
13:27 >> It's a big right hand.
13:29 >> It's a big right hand.
13:31 >> Jordan needs to be working a little bit harder in this round.
13:33 >> She's out working it.
13:35 >> Instigating every single --
13:37 >> To me, there isn't a massive gulf in technical ability.
13:39 Both fighters are fairly equally matched.
13:41 But Masi Akita is out working at the moment.
13:43 >> She's making Porter work.
13:45 >> Without doing anything.
13:47 >> If you watch carefully, she's like --
13:49 >> One minute she's making her come forward,
13:51 she's making her come forward.
13:53 >> She's making her come forward.
13:55 >> She's making her come forward.
13:57 >> Constant movement.
13:59 Edging in with the feet, changing the angles.
14:01 Upper body movement.
14:03 Again, some of those combinations she puts together
14:05 when she finishes with that left hook.
14:07 Quite impressive.
14:09 As we've seen in the last round, very effective when she gets
14:11 a chance to get that backhand.
14:13 This is the problem here where Parker Porter is waiting just a
14:15 bit too long.
14:17 She's going to ship a backhand in a minute if she doesn't adjust
14:19 herself.
14:21 >> She's got a bit of a chance here.
14:23 >> She's got a chance here.
14:25 >> She's got a chance here.
14:27 >> Masi Akita is setting up.
14:29 Just waiting a little bit too long for me sometimes.
14:31 >> Personally, I think that's a Masi Akita round just off work.
14:33 >> Absolutely.
14:35 It's going to be close, this.
14:37 It could potentially -- again, who knows.
14:39 We're not actually judging this out.
14:41 But I think it could come down to the last round, this one.
14:43 >> I think so.
14:45 >> I think it could come down to this in the final round.
14:49 Big sigh for the referee there who's got the difficult job of
14:52 deciphering who deserves the nod.
14:54 >> I'm afraid to say I wouldn't like that job.
14:56 It's a tough job.
14:58 >> Definitely not.
15:00 Definitely not.
15:02 >> Especially not tonight on this one.
15:04 This is a hard one to go like.
15:06 >> Interesting to see now.
15:08 Is Parker Porter going to dig in, bite down on the gum shield,
15:10 give everything and really, really work and try and outwork Masi
15:12 Akita.
15:14 She's showing no signs of stopping.
15:16 >> Porter looks very confident.
15:18 She looks very confident in the corner.
15:20 As if she's well up.
15:22 >> Has she done enough, though?
15:24 Has she done enough?
15:26 It depends what you prefer.
15:28 Do you prefer the fairly slick movement from Parker Porter and
15:30 those flashy shots here and there and that movement?
15:32 Or the constant consistent work rate of Masi Akita?
15:34 It depends which you prefer.
15:36 That will be down to the referee.
15:38 But I think it's going to be a close one.
15:40 That will be down to the referee.
15:42 But for viewers, they will be taking their own stance on this
15:44 and deciding who they favour.
15:46 It may well come down to this final round.
15:48 Two minutes to stake their claim and convince the referee that
15:50 they deserve it.
15:52 >> That's the difference going back to the undercard.
15:54 What was on earlier on.
15:56 This and the way fighter who comes to win.
15:58 >> Absolutely.
16:00 As you say, there's a lot that's happened in between that last
16:02 time.
16:04 It's a lot of work.
16:06 >> It's a lot of work.
16:08 >> It's a lot of work.
16:10 >> It's a lot of work.
16:12 >> It's a lot of work.
16:14 >> It's a lot of work.
16:16 >> It's a lot of work.
16:18 >> It's a lot of work.
16:20 >> It's a lot of work.
16:22 >> It's a lot of work.
16:24 >> It's a lot of work.
16:26 >> It's a lot of work.
16:28 >> It's a lot of work.
16:30 >> It's a lot of work.
16:32 >> It's a lot of work.
16:34 >> It's a lot of work.
16:36 >> It's a lot of work.
16:38 >> It's a lot of work.
16:40 >> It's a lot of work.
16:42 >> It's a lot of work.
16:44 >> It's a lot of work.
16:46 >> It's a lot of work.
16:48 >> It's a lot of work.
16:50 >> It's a lot of work.
16:52 >> It's a lot of work.
16:54 >> It's a lot of work.
16:56 >> It's a lot of work.
16:58 >> It's a lot of work.
17:00 >> It's a lot of work.
17:02 >> It's a lot of work.
17:04 >> It's a lot of work.
17:06 >> It's a lot of work.
17:08 >> It's a lot of work.
17:10 >> It's a lot of work.
17:12 >> It's a lot of work.
17:14 >> It's a lot of work.
17:16 >> It's a lot of work.
17:18 >> It's a lot of work.
17:20 >> It's a lot of work.
17:22 >> It's a lot of work.
17:24 >> It's a lot of work.
17:26 >> It's a lot of work.
17:28 >> It's a lot of work.
17:30 >> It's a lot of work.
17:32 >> It's a lot of work.
17:34 >> It's a lot of work.
17:36 >> It's a lot of work.
17:38 >> It's a lot of work.
17:40 >> It's a lot of work.
17:42 >> It's a lot of work.
17:44 >> It's a lot of work.
17:46 >> It's a lot of work.
17:48 >> It's a lot of work.
17:50 >> It's a lot of work.
17:52 >> It's a lot of work.
17:54 >> It's a lot of work.
17:56 >> It's a lot of work.
17:58 >> It's a lot of work.
