00:00 So we are live here with Jacob, who's doing a highlight.
00:04 Hi, Jacob.
00:06 -Hi.
00:07 -Hi.
00:09 And we're here at Shine Hair Studio in Pasadena, California.
00:15 And look at what we're looking today.
00:18 So what's the goal?
00:22 Take her brighter?
00:24 -Yes, we are going to take her brighter and make
00:26 her more blonde, like a nice, bright woman.
00:29 For the summer.
00:31 -Ooh, I'm excited.
00:33 What are you using here?
00:35 -This is 20 volume blonde Laura and Olaplex, of course.
00:40 -Of course.
00:42 -And my hair mousse.
00:44 Right now I'm just baby-wiping her.
00:49 And then after I'm done with that, I'm going to go through the ends and tip for it as well.
00:55 -Awesome.
00:56 Got Emily saying yum.
01:00 I do that too.
01:01 Sometimes I say yum when something isn't food.
01:04 It just feels right.
01:07 How exciting.
01:08 So Jacob already did the foils in the back, as you guys can see.
01:14 So what is the whole process going to look like?
01:18 Foils and then what?
01:19 -Foils and then I'm going to open there and brighten some of this up and bring it up a little more.
01:25 And then I'm going to give her a face frame so it pops in the front.
01:30 -Pretty.
01:32 You guys can find Jacob on Instagram @oneandonlyjacob.
01:38 I want to put a "the" in front, but it's not.
01:41 It's just one and only Jacob, which I already put in the title of this video.
01:45 So you guys can go ahead and check him out and search him on Instagram for that.
01:48 His work is so beautiful.
01:50 Before we get into a lot of this demo, I just want to show you guys, especially if you're local to LA,
01:56 because that is where we are, so that's where we do our demos at the time being.
02:01 But I found Jacob through using #olaplex on Instagram and #LosAngelesStylist.
02:07 It's so important to, after your social media game, take beautiful photos of your beautiful work.
02:14 Use #olaplex and you literally do look at everything.
02:19 Were you so surprised that I contacted you?
02:22 -I was so surprised.
02:24 I don't know why.
02:26 We look at everything, and we want to find more people.
02:30 So we look at certain hashtags, especially the #olaplex hashtag.
02:33 So make sure, if you are on social media and you post your work, to keep doing it,
02:37 because you never know what opportunities are going to come.
02:40 He's using 20 volume tackling.
02:45 Emily says, "I'm excited. It's going to be beautiful. I can tell already."
02:49 -Thank you, Emily.
02:51 -Ahh!
02:52 So where is everyone watching from? Let us know in the comments.
02:57 Like I said, we're in Pasadena, and Jacob is born and raised Pasadena.
03:01 -626.
03:04 -626.
03:06 Let us know where you're watching from and what you're doing.
03:12 Obviously, we're doing hair, but what are you doing?
03:15 So you're taking very fine sections?
03:26 -Mm-hmm. Very, very fine.
03:29 And I like to take fine sections because I feel like you get better lift.
03:39 And my little own personal motto is, "When in doubt, thin it out."
03:46 So if it's too thick, if you're questioning your section, like, "Is it too thick?"
03:50 then it probably is, so just make it smaller.
03:53 -Love.
03:55 All right, we've got some people from Vancouver, Washington.
04:02 We have Kimberly from Hawaii saying it's 7.30 in the morning.
04:06 Well, good morning, Kimberly.
04:09 Emily says she grew up in California, but she's now melting in Arizona.
04:13 I love the heat.
04:16 -I love Flagstaff.
04:18 -Whoo!
04:19 And of course, ask any questions that you guys want in the comments section.
04:29 We will go ahead and answer them for you.
04:32 We are here to film this demo, but we will be posting the after photo later.
04:39 So you're going to see this demo right now and then the after photo later on once Jacob is done.
04:44 And we'll let you know what toner he used and all of that.
04:47 Right, Jacob?
04:48 -Right.
04:49 I'm going to tell you all my secrets.
04:52 -All his secrets, you guys. He's so nice. He's sharing his secrets.
04:55 What do you guys think in the comments?
04:58 Do you like sharing your secrets or do you keep them to yourself?
05:02 -I think sharing is caring.
05:04 -Yes, sharing is caring.
05:06 It's so true. I love when people share their formulas because at the end of the day, no one's going to do it like you.
05:11 -Right.
05:12 -Give you guys a nice close-up.
05:23 Kimberly also says sharing is caring.
05:25 Oh, sorry guys, my voice.
05:27 Sharing is caring.
05:31 And now we've got everyone writing it in the comments.
05:34 Yes, Paris Cole sharing is caring.
05:38 Because we're here to support and empower one another and we can't do that by keeping everything to ourselves.
05:47 Right?
05:52 And I like to think that people have their special formulas but chances are somebody else in the world probably knows that same exact formula.
06:01 So, might as well share it.
06:03 Yes, share it. And they might apply it in a different way that is unique to them.
06:08 It's all about you and your style and how you approach things.
06:11 So, don't fear. Don't live in fear of if you share this, you know, your client's going to go to someone else.
06:18 I don't believe in that.
06:19 I believe that they will come to you because you do it in a certain way that's unique to you.
06:25 And speaking of work, once again, Jacob is at @oneandonlyjacob on Instagram.
06:33 You have to check him out and show him some love. He is so nice and so talented.
06:39 -Oh, thank you. Stop that.
06:42 -Stop it! I won't! I'm not going to stop.
06:45 -So, I'm taking super, super fine sections. So, she'll get it really, really light.
06:57 -Are you excited to be nice and bright?
07:01 -Heck yeah!
07:02 -Yes!
07:03 -What are you protecting?
07:04 -Best model ever.
07:06 -Pretty eyes.
07:09 -I know. Especially with all the hair in front. Like, they're just popping.
07:13 -I can't wait.
07:14 -Me too.
07:15 -Yes!
07:17 -Okay, so you guys can check out more of this process too if you want to see the before photo.
07:28 For example, it's on our Instagram story right now. So, be sure to check that out.
07:33 So, you guys can see where she started with. She already has very nice hair, but Jacob's going to take it to the next level.
07:43 Sarah says, "Sharing is caring. It's all about helping each other and lifting each other up so we can all be super stars."
07:49 -Yes.
07:50 -Love that! Sarah, that's so true.
07:52 So nice.
08:03 So, you're going even, you would say, like, maybe super fine at the front so it really pops.
08:10 -Yeah.
08:12 I like to look at my section and see, like, if I can see through it, then it's good.
08:17 -Let's show them. If you can see through your section, then it's been enough.
08:23 That's a good tip.
08:25 And you guys, Jacob is part of the "Cut Your Own Foils" crew.
08:32 -Yeah.
08:33 -Right?
08:34 -Right. No pre-cut.
08:37 -He doesn't like pre-cut. He thinks it feels weird because they're not right.
08:42 And I can get down with that. What are you guys saying? Do you like pre-cut foils or do you like cutting them on your own and customizing them to each client?
08:52 Estella wants to know, "How many foils did you end up doing on the other side?"
08:58 It was pretty back-to-back, right?
09:05 -Yeah. It was pretty back-to-back. I honestly just like to feel it and just, I don't know, let it flow.
09:10 -It is a flow.
09:12 -I don't really count. I know some people like to count, but I'm going to shatter her, so if there is, like, maybe one or two more foils on that side than there is this side, then it'll still blend in with the shatter.
09:27 -Beautiful.
09:29 -Beautiful.
09:30 -And I like to leave the baby hairs out just because I feel like when you lighten the baby hairs, it's like, I mean, you can work around it. It's not like do or die, but I like to leave them out so that way when you shatter it, it doesn't look too weird and pull the hair back.
09:53 -Oh, nice.
09:54 -Nice.
09:55 -There we go. Move it on, move it on down. I'll show you guys the rest of this and a little bit of the tipping. And get you guys excited to see the final reveal.
10:21 -Lucila says, "Hello, I'm a beginner in beauty school. Any tips you could give me on highlights?"
10:26 -Practice on my doll head.
10:30 -The fact with sectioning, it took me, like, a while to get it down to, but once you get it down, it's like a piece of cake.
10:40 -So you would say that sectioning is really important.
10:44 -Yeah, sectioning is really important.
10:47 -And how do you section? Like in fours or like what do you do?
10:51 -I section the back and then I split the sides kind of like at a curve and then I section the mohawk with the face hair.
10:59 -Detail. Detail.
11:05 -And my nails probably look awful, but I don't paint my nails as hair color. I don't like to wear gloves because I feel like you can't grip the hair as good when you don't wear gloves. So, yeah.
11:19 -Sorry about it.
11:21 -Hope that's helpful, Lissa, about the sectioning.
11:27 -Mm-hmm.
11:28 -And do you do everything? Do you color, cut, and style?
11:54 -Color, cut, and style. My favorite is color, but I do both. And style. I love curling. Curling's my favorite.
12:03 -Ooh, that's why his afro photos are so pretty.
12:07 -You can style it well. Sometimes that's, I mean, that's also really important.
12:12 -Yeah.
12:13 -Is knowing how to style well so it reflects your work in the best way possible.
12:17 -Yeah.
12:20 -Like you were saying, most people have great work, but if the picture's not good, it just doesn't read as well.
12:26 -Exactly.
12:28 -Mm-hmm.
12:29 [clippers buzzing]
12:58 -And once again, he's using Wella Glendor with 20 volume and Olaplex No. 1, of course, to keep her hair nice and healthy for this nice, bright summer change.
13:11 [clippers buzzing]
13:40 [clippers buzzing]
13:44 -What are you guys doing tonight?
13:46 -Ooh, Friday.
13:48 -Friday night. Time to go out.
13:50 -What are you guys, do you guys have any plans for the evening?
13:54 -Any good clubs out there?
13:56 -Pick two figs. Hit up Jacob.
14:01 -Yeah.
14:02 -Let's all go out tonight.
14:03 -Let's do an old town.
14:04 [laughs]
14:06 -Meet me at Barney's at 10 o'clock.
14:09 [laughs]
14:10 -Meet in Greek.
14:12 -Let's all have a drink and talk about America.
14:17 -That'd be fun, actually.
14:19 -That would be fun. There should be hair meetups in everyone's city.
14:23 -Yeah, there should be. That's such a good idea.
14:25 -A hair meetup to, like, share tips and stuff.
14:28 -I would go.
14:29 -I would go, and I don't even do hair, so count me in.
14:34 -Alright, I'll let you know.
14:35 -Party of two.
14:38 -Jenny wants to know, does he have a go-to color to bump the bass?
14:42 -I honestly don't like to bump bass.
14:48 Like, very, very seldom.
14:52 And I also don't really like, I don't really like to mess with anybody's bass, unless they have great.
14:58 I like to work with people's natural bass.
15:06 -Lissa wants to know, how long have you been doing hair, and what sparked your interest to do what you're doing now?
15:11 -I've been doing hair for, I graduated beauty school last August, so.
15:20 -Ooh, he is fresh, y'all!
15:22 -Fresh little baby.
15:24 -He's fresh, but he's so good.
15:27 -So.
15:30 -He must have done a lot of practice.
15:32 -Yeah, a lot, like assisting too, actually I still assist.
15:36 -That's amazing.
15:38 -Yeah, that's not good.
15:40 -What was the question? I forgot.
15:44 -How long have you been doing hair, and what sparked your interest to do what you're doing now?
15:48 -So, I guess, out of beauty school, like almost a year, but with beauty school, I was touching actual hair like two years.
15:55 Does that count?
15:57 -Yes.
16:01 -So, can you give any tips, or have you been, like, what is it like for starting out and like building clientele?
16:10 -It's hard at first. If you just keep working at it, honestly, like doing people's hair for free sometimes, just to get a good picture, is worth it.
16:23 Like, you know, offering people like really good discounts, just to get exposure, and just so people can see like, "Hey, I do know what I'm doing."
16:34 You know, honestly, just in the beginning, do a lot of stuff for free. That's the best.
16:42 -I've heard that before. I have heard that before.
16:46 From, actually, one of our ambassadors, one of our Olaflex ambassadors, he told me that. He's like, "You know, sometimes you just gotta give back, and you know, earn people's trust."
16:57 -And it'll come back to you eventually.
17:00 -It will.
17:01 Jenny says, "High five sent his way. He's doing a great job. #fellowstylist."
17:06 Look at all the love in the chatroom.
17:10 Hugs, you guys.
17:13 -So, so love.
17:14 -Mhm.
17:15 Kathleen says, "Get off that assisting wagon, boy. It's all about you now."
17:32 I know people who have assisted, who have assisted for like five years.
17:39 Yeah, I honestly, I feel like assisting, like, I don't know, it's just, I'm a big advocate. I mean, even if I had a steady clientele, I'd probably still be assisting.
17:50 You can always learn something from someone else. You never stop learning.
17:54 You can always learn new techniques. It's always fun just to observe. Like, I love people watching, observing how people work.
18:03 So yeah, I like assisting.
18:07 I like it.
18:08 But thank you.
18:10 And these are even like, I mean, these live demos, it's almost like all of you watching are here shadowing the stylist that we shoot with for the day.
18:19 You're just looking at their technique and, you know, getting to ask questions about why they did that, or maybe they'll give you tips along the way. It's very helpful.
18:28 I think I'm gonna need to go mix a little bit more glue.
18:30 No.
18:31 I'm sorry.
18:36 He'll be back shortly.
18:37 He will be back. You guys, we're gonna do, we're actually gonna do a little break and let him finish up these foils and then show you a little bit of the tipping out so you guys can check out the balayage.
18:49 We won't do the whole entire head live, but we will show you just how he does his thing.
18:55 So join us again, maybe 10, 15 minutes from now on Olaplex and make sure you show him some love on Instagram @winanomijacob.
19:06 He's so kind and sweet for letting us come in and film this demo with him.
19:10 And a little note for all of you who do hair out there is always, always bleach and color with Olaplex.
19:19 All your services should have Olaplex in them.
19:21 There's no reason to, you know, not use it on this client and use it on the other because maybe the other client has damaged hair and maybe the client, the other one you're not using it on maybe has really healthy hair already and you're like, "My hair is healthy. She doesn't need it."
19:38 But what is the thing that I always say?
19:41 It's healthy now. Wait until you keep coloring it without protection and without Olaplex.
19:48 How do you think hair gets to the compromised situation that, you know, oftentimes we see in before photos or anything like that?
19:56 So that's just a little tip for today.
19:58 We'll see you guys shortly if you guys want to join for the balayage and we'll see you guys for sure at the after photo later.
20:06 I cannot wait to see how it turns out.
20:09 Thank you guys.
