00:00 This is Kylie. Kylie's got long hair and what we want to do is keep the length but
00:07 we wanted to create a look that was a little bit more kind of textured. Right
00:12 now it's just very one lengthy. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna take a
00:20 middle section and then we're just gonna divide off right at the frontal bone to
00:28 the front of the ear. So what you can see is we've kind of got three panels. We've got
00:33 one that's let out in the front and then one that's just kind of a typical
00:38 division section from the crown to the mastoid and then the back there.
00:46 So what we're gonna do is we're gonna start in the front and we're just gonna work
00:55 everything straight up.
00:58 And I'm gonna cut a square line just keeping my fingers parallel to the floor.
01:13 Just really bringing everything straight up off its base. Then we're gonna add in
01:19 the hair on the side and do the same thing. So what's happening is that
01:22 we're getting a really kind of exaggerated length change from the front down into
01:27 the sides. So really preserving the length while creating a layer. So I want
01:33 the interior to be quite short and the exterior to be a lot longer. So what you
01:39 see me doing kind of dividing that off that's just so I can control that amount
01:42 of hair. I can't keep it all on my fingers and keep it under control so I
01:47 just do a little bit at a time. So when I work on the other side same thing just
01:51 use a little bit from the middle as my guide for the opposite side. But the
01:57 technique is exactly the same.
02:00 So working shorter interior longer exterior. Just bringing everything
02:11 straight up just using what I've already cut as my guide. Keeping everything nice
02:19 and clean. Just double checking the sectioning. Double checking the way that
02:24 I've got it combed out and then just checking the shape as I comb it down. So
02:30 section two it just works behind section one. Now we're gonna do the exact same
02:40 thing. The only difference is that every time that we take a new section we're
02:49 gonna elevate past our guide. So section two is gonna be a little bit longer than
02:54 section one. But the technique is the exact same. So
03:02 still going to cut everything flat to the floor. Still longer on the exterior
03:10 than it is on the interior. So shorter on the inside longer on the outside. Really
03:19 what that does is it just allows the release of the length and allows the
03:26 hair to have more movement. So that's going to become my guide for the second
03:29 side.
03:38 So same thing here. Just gonna lift all the hair straight up. Gonna use that
03:47 piece from the middle as my guide for side two. And cut everything straight out
03:53 and flat to the floor. Anytime I'm working with long hair I like to think
04:03 creatively like this. What it does it allows for the person wearing the
04:08 haircut to have a few more options. She's still gonna be able to round brush it
04:13 and kind of loopy iron it and make it look really beachy. But if she wants to
04:16 wear it straight then it's just gonna have more texture. Kind of a rock and
04:21 roll look. Same thing for section three. Just elevating the hair straight up off
04:28 of its base using the length from the front as a guide. Elevating it all
04:39 straight up. I'm just cutting it longer than the previous section.
04:57 Taking that middle piece out. Leaving it available for the guide on the second
05:04 side.
05:06 So with this we really wanted to show you the whole process. Not jump around
05:19 too much. So this would be section three on the opposite side. Everything comes
05:25 straight up. Just dropping out some of that perimeter hair if I don't feel like
05:28 I can control it. I think that's the most important part of any of this is just
05:32 being able to have control of the section and making sure that you're not
05:37 working too far ahead or putting yourself in a situation where you lose
05:42 your spot.
05:44 [No audio]
05:46 So once I've cut that now I'm just gonna bring the exterior length up. So just
06:09 using what I've already cut as my guide. Just lifting that up higher. Preserving
06:15 that length of the outside of the line. And just keeping with the same technique.
06:23 Cutting everything straight and flat across.
06:28 [No audio]
06:30 All right section four. I believe this is the last section through the front.
06:44 Everything coming straight up. There you can see my guide. We're just skipping
06:47 past that and going up higher. Her hair is really long so there's still quite a
06:56 bit to cut. Dropping out that middle part of the section. Making it my guide. And
07:06 then just bringing the opposite side up. Mirroring what I just did.
07:12 So nothing changes at all. It's just repeating the process over and over again.
07:25 And that's a lot of what hair cutting is. Is just doing the same thing
07:28 repetitively to create a result that you want. There you can see elevating up.
07:35 Cutting flat across. Keeping it nice and consistent.
07:51 So just coming everything forward. Checking the balance. Making sure that
07:56 everything's the way that I want it. And then we're gonna take a middle section
08:01 here and we're gonna give you guys a visual of how this is gonna look once
08:05 it's expanded out. So when I lift this up you can see there's the initial section
08:10 that I cut. It's falling out of my fingers. And as I lift it up more you'll
08:14 see section 2 right there. Section 3.
08:22 Section 4. And section 5. So you can imagine as that kind of works across
08:33 what it's gonna give the effect for. So as we work into the back I took a
08:39 horizontal section and we're gonna do the same thing. We're gonna lift this up
08:44 just a little bit. Use the previous one as the guide. So there's section 5 from
08:50 the front. We're just lifting it up. Going past it just a little bit and then
09:00 cutting again. So just keeping the exact same technique as we work in through the
09:03 back. The reason we sectioned it off the way that we did is because we just
09:06 wanted to have the most amount of control. So that becomes my guide now. So
09:12 elevating that section straight off the back. Straight up into the air.
09:17 Finding that guide. Not as much hair to cut on this side. I'm just taking that
09:26 off. So coming in with a flat wrapping technique. You know for this the haircut
09:33 is the style. So just keeping everything nice and small. Really nice polish on the
09:38 blow-dry. Not looking for any lift or anything like that. Really want to set it
09:44 up for the refinement process. You know it can get a bit tedious blow-drying
09:49 hair like this. Especially when it's long. But I think that this is what is kind of
09:54 important and what really sets a haircut apart from something that they could get
09:57 from somebody else. So as it starts to dry you can really see how it's polished.
10:02 You can kind of see the texture that's coming into play. The different lengths
10:05 that are sitting over the top. And then just getting in with my hands. Making
10:09 sure that it's dry. But then also kind of moving the hair around and seeing if I
10:13 like the way that it looks. So for the refinement starting on through the front.
10:19 Taking a section that goes down the center. Kind of separating that out. And
10:25 what we're gonna do is go back in kind of our original way. And just point cut
10:30 into some of these links that we had. So really just blending the the two spots
10:36 together. So that's a little bit of section one. A little bit of section two.
10:39 You can see section one fell out. Just going in and dusting that off. So really
10:44 blending those links together. We'll do the same thing through you know two and
10:48 three. We'll blend those. And then three and four we'll blend those in. So pretty
10:54 aggressive with the refinement. So section two, section one on this side.
10:58 They're all kind of mixed together. What I'm doing is just blending the lines.
11:04 Just slide cutting here into the fringe. Wanted to give it a definite fringe. Kind
11:17 of point cutting into the sides on the cheekbone. Just really bring those out.
11:25 Same thing on the opposite side. Just working my way up. Cutting right along
11:30 the cheekbone just to expose them a bit more. Leaving the hair a little bit
11:33 longer in the fringe area. So it's kind of in the eyes. So it could be worn
11:37 forward. But it can also be worn kind of pushed off to the side. Gives a bit of an
11:40 option. So working a rounded section through the back. Now you're gonna see
11:46 multiple of those layers. So just point cutting into that first one there. And
11:53 then kind of working my way out. Point cutting into the one behind it. Really
12:01 not changing the technique too much. Just want to create a little bit of
12:05 separation in those lines. So they're not so strong when they fall.
12:20 So elevating up. Point cutting into one layer there. And then re-combing again.
12:27 And just sliding my fingers out. And then point cutting in a bit more. Same thing
12:32 through the back. I just took a section across the entire back and lifted it up.
12:37 Now just taking random pieces and kind of pulling them out from the side of the
12:42 head. Slide cutting out. This just gives it even more texture. It's not something
12:48 that you would have to do. Just an option that I liked for this particular haircut.
12:55 Pretty aggressively sliding into it. Just removing kind of big chunks of the hair.
12:59 That way the layers have a little bit more movement. And it's a little bit more
13:03 I don't know kind of DIY looking.
13:07 Always just kind of visually checking as well as technically checking. I think when
13:18 you're working with length like this it's good to have a nice technical base.
13:23 But also visually kind of trust what you see. Using the texture spray. Really
13:30 loading it up in there. I want to create as much texture as possible.
13:34 Kind of seeing what different looks I get with the fringe. Kind of parted in
13:38 the middle. Kind of pushed off to the side.
13:44 Letting her kind of get her hands in it. Feeling it.
13:48 Just a nice long wearable look. Kind of some options. Take the cape off.
13:57 You know so it doesn't look like there's a bunch of disconnection in there. But if you
14:01 can tell from what we did you can see that there was.
14:05 Something that's very wearable. Hope you like it.
