00:00 Hello, welcome to Sprinkles On The Spot cake decorating tutorials.
00:06 I'm Sophia, your host, and today I'm going to show you how to make a vanilla cake recipe.
00:13 So, the ingredients you will need will be 2 1/4 cups of all-purpose flour,
00:21 1/2 cup of butter,
00:24 3 teaspoons of baking powder,
00:28 1 1/3 cups of sugar,
00:31 1/2 teaspoon of salt,
00:34 1 cup of 1% milk,
00:37 1 teaspoon of vanilla,
00:40 and 2 eggs.
00:42 You're going to start by preheating your oven to 350.
00:46 I've already done that.
00:48 So, I'm just going to add my flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder into my mixing bowl.
01:12 And then just combine that on low until it's incorporated.
01:30 Okay.
01:32 So now, we're going to keep that on low
01:37 and add in our 1/2 cup of butter, just about a tablespoon at a time.
01:46 So, I'm going to start by just adding in a little bit,
01:51 letting that combine in with our dry ingredients.
01:55 And once that is, I'm going to add in my whole potatoes.
02:10 So, just keep going.
02:12 You don't have to do it too slow,
02:14 but just add in these amount of additions until you get that perfect.
02:43 (mixing)
03:10 So, once you've added in about half of that,
03:13 it's going to start to get a little bit clumpy.
03:17 It's going to change in that bright, grainy texture of the dry ingredients
03:24 to sort of clump up and form kind of like a clump.
03:33 Keep on adding in your butter until it's combined.
03:44 (mixing)
04:13 (mixing)
04:20 I'm just, I've added in all my butter.
04:23 I'm just going to let that combine.
04:28 It should be still a powdery consistency,
04:36 but it's going to sort of have a few small clumps.
04:42 So, now we're just going to scrape down the sides of the bowl
04:53 so that all of that butter is staying with the dry ingredients.
05:16 So, you just are going to gradually add in your cup of milk and your vanilla.
05:39 It's starting to kind of bubble on the heater, but that's just what you want.
05:51 So, now it's sort of like a cookie consistency.
05:57 Just keep adding that in.
06:02 It's getting a little stiffer now.
06:09 (mixing)
06:37 So, I've added in the eggs in there.
06:40 So, I'm going to stop that.
06:48 And just lift up the heater,
06:54 and I'm going to scrape down the sides and the bottom.
07:10 So, you just want to make sure it's all incorporated in the bowl
07:17 so that you get a nice, even consistency cake batter.
07:27 I'm going to scrape this on the heater,
07:32 and I'm going to give it another mix.
07:36 And remember, just keep that on low.
07:46 If you over beat this, you might end up in the cake batter running over the sides of the cake pan,
07:56 or it just might not turn out the way that you want it to.
08:01 So, I recommend just doing this slow and slow until it's all incorporated.
08:08 And when you lift up the beater, it should be in the ribbon stage,
08:14 which means that the batter just slightly drips off of it,
08:20 and you can sort of see the imprint of the drop of batter in your bowl,
08:29 and then it will fade away.
08:32 So, that's the consistency that you want.
08:36 You are going to grab your cake pans,
08:43 and some non-stick baking spray.
08:53 And you're just going to give your pans a really nice coating of the spray,
08:59 just so the cakes do not stick to the pan.
09:28 Okay.
09:32 So, now I'm just going to divide this batter up,
09:38 so that that is just evenly distributed into my cake pans.
09:48 Get all that batter off there, so that it doesn't drip everywhere.
10:13 And then I'm just going to pour this batter right into my cake pans,
10:22 until it's about halfway up the sides.
10:30 Because you need to remember, cakes do rise, and they do rise pretty high,
10:36 especially if you are making them from scratch.
10:41 So, you don't want to get too much batter in your pans.
10:56 So, you're just scraping out all of the extra batter.
11:16 Okay, that's just about it.
11:23 What you're seeing here is that this pan got a lot more batter than the other.
11:31 This one actually got a little too much,
11:34 so I'm just going to take some of this pan's batter and put it into this pan.
11:56 Okay.
11:58 That looks just about even.
12:03 Okay, perfect.
12:06 So, I'm going to grab a wet washcloth,
12:11 and I'm just going to wash off all of these dribbles of cake batter,
12:19 just off the side of the pan, so that that part does not burn,
12:26 which will end up affecting the results.
12:34 This one is nice and clean.
12:44 Okay, perfect.
12:50 So, now that you've got your cake batter into your actual pans,
12:56 you are going to put these into your preheated oven.
13:00 Remember, this is preheated to 350.
13:08 So, just going to flip these and put them into your preheated oven.
13:17 And remember to keep it on an even level.
13:27 Alright.
13:34 So, those will stay in there and bake at about 350 for 30 minutes.
13:43 So, I'm going to set the timer, and they're ready to go.
