00:00 This National Tequila Day and
00:01 Senior Rio tequila is here.
00:03 It's a local owned and operated
00:04 tequila company, but what's really great?
00:06 It's women owned and operated,
00:08 which is so nice.
00:09 How are you doing today?
00:10 Debbie, I am fabulous.
00:11 You know I do something that I love.
00:13 I get to put tequila smiles out there,
00:16 so we'll start with you.
00:17 I love this a little.
00:18 Oh my goodness, a little smile.
00:20 Let's talk about who what kind of
00:22 tequila is this? So this is
00:23 senior real Blanco. OK,
00:25 and so what I want you to do is
00:27 go ahead and have a little sip.
00:29 The first sip kind of opens your palate.
00:31 It does, and that's something
00:32 that you want to teach.
00:34 Want to teach me about tequila,
00:35 which is so important because I
00:37 think you have all these awards here,
00:39 and it's not because you can
00:41 make a mean cocktail, is it?
00:43 No, but you could, could you?
00:45 I can't, but that's the thing about people.
00:47 Think tequilas are for mainly
00:49 for putting into cocktails,
00:50 but they're actually almost like
00:52 a sipping kind of drink.
00:53 And do you see the stem where?
00:55 Yeah, a little bit of the source of
00:57 crystals going on so you know tequila
00:59 is really trendy now.
01:01 A lot of people know the benefits
01:03 of drinking tequila, gluten free,
01:04 keto friendly, no carbs.
01:06 I mean, who's not on the tequila diet,
01:08 right? And it's all about being natural.
01:11 We don't add anything artificial,
01:12 no artificial additives or
01:14 colorings or flavorings.
01:15 It's a recipe that goes back three
01:17 generations dedicated to my father,
01:19 Senorio, and so I've been on the
01:21 market 14 years as a minority woman
01:23 owned business right here in Gilbert,
01:25 AZ and the brand is available.
01:27 I told wine and more stores so I just
01:29 love coming out and talking tequila.
01:31 So are you ready to learn a little bit?
01:33 But first, let's go back.
01:35 You've rushed the history here
01:36 'cause it's kind of neat there.
01:38 So this was your father's.
01:39 My father was making this as a
01:41 moonshine in Mexico in Mexico.
01:42 OK, that's important there.
01:43 People to realize that you just
01:44 can't go right here.
01:45 No, you know in your own in your own
01:47 garage and make the beer like that.
01:49 It's not in the back door.
01:51 Anything like this?
01:51 So this is awesome.
01:52 So did he have a farm down there?
01:54 Is that actually the process had
01:56 to happen in this little still?
01:58 And I reunited with him after 30 years.
02:00 My mom's American.
02:00 My dad's Mexican.
02:01 Go down there, see my dad during the
02:03 reunion were sipping this tequila
02:04 and that was 2006-2009 launched
02:06 it to the marketplace.
02:07 This is so amazing.
02:08 OK, so now let's get because
02:09 these bottles are beautiful.
02:10 It's like I didn't want to open
02:12 one to drink it.
02:13 I just want to look at him.
02:15 Alright, so let's talk about how
02:16 we of course taste tequila.
02:17 Well, the Blanco is what you
02:19 always want to start with.
02:20 It's the first expression because
02:21 that's tequila in its purest form.
02:23 Then what we do is we take it and we age it.
02:26 We age it once and it becomes a reposado.
02:28 Reposado just means rested.
02:29 Then we keep it in longer.
02:30 It becomes in Yahoo,
02:31 which means aged two years in a
02:33 cognac barrel didn't you know all
02:35 these times when I hear those people
02:37 ask what kind of tequila I want.
02:38 Never knew that's what they
02:40 drew meant and it's really a
02:41 personal preference.
02:42 You know some people you're a purist.
02:44 It's all about the Blanco or you
02:45 like a little more complexity in layers.
02:47 Perhaps it's the reposado or the
02:49 true sippers go right into the in
02:51 Yahoo got it now.
02:52 What about these down here?
02:53 'cause those are glad you asked.
02:55 They're aged in a different fashion,
02:56 so hand painted.
02:57 We call this our double barrel in Yahoo,
02:59 and so it's aged in two barrels,
03:01 a bourbon barrel and a burgundy wine barrel.
03:03 So and then the extra in Yahoo.
03:05 That's exquisite.
03:05 That is five years in a cognac barrel.
03:07 Oh my goodness,
03:08 so I never knew that tequila
03:09 got like age like that.
03:11 We hear about whiskey doing that,
03:12 but tequila is actually original.
03:13 Pretty much we could say spirit that
03:15 has been aged the correct way, correct?
03:17 Yes, you know how we get better with age,
03:19 Brad? Oh yes, we do.
03:20 So does tequila.
03:21 That's actually so and then we
03:23 have another bottle here.
03:24 Which is called Cafe Alagancia and
03:25 everything is under the name of Senor Rio,
03:27 which means Mr River stemming
03:29 from my mating name Rivera.
03:30 So for my dad's nickname instead
03:32 of Senora Rivera it was Senor Rio
03:33 and so this is dedicated to him.
03:35 So this is so beautiful.
03:36 The coffee tequila that's OK.
03:38 I mean one word describes it addictive.
03:40 That's what so yeah,
03:41 I I know some people I was camping with.
03:43 Pretty much went through three
03:44 bottles of this in two days.
03:46 I'm not gonna bring it out.
03:47 I don't know how I don't know what's going on,
03:50 but let's just say this much.
03:52 OK, there's a lot of dancing.
03:53 Dance better so you kind of
03:55 grooving as you have your tequila.
03:56 So when we're tasting tequila,
03:57 what's one thing we should?
03:59 We should really know the first step.
04:00 Like I said, have a little step.
04:02 It's going to open the palate.
04:03 The second sip is where you can get
04:05 all the integrity and the beautiful
04:06 essence of the agave plant.
04:08 And then as you get into the aging,
04:10 you want to kind of take your time
04:11 with your sipping because it brings
04:13 out the oak brings out the cognac.
04:15 Kind of sifts through almost
04:16 like a honey or caramel.
04:17 It's really delicious,
04:18 so tequila should not be hurried.
04:19 Matter fact,
04:20 we have a message in every bottle.
04:21 Take a peek.
04:22 Behind that front label it says.
04:25 Is sharing life in the front side
04:27 and it says sharing tequila,
04:28 sharing tequila, sharing life.
04:30 Oh my God, it's so I hope that this
04:32 bottle goes home and you share it
04:34 with those that you care about.
04:36 You know, create your memories.
04:38 Speak for yourself, Brad.
04:44 It's a sharing tequila to
04:45 bring people together.
04:46 You know we even have the little
04:48 mini me's 50 milliliters of
04:49 airplane bottles and every bottle
04:51 that we sell where a tequila with a
04:53 cause we donate to help children
04:55 with special needs. It's called.
04:56 We care crusade.org and it's dear to
04:58 my heart because I have granddaughters
04:59 with special needs and so I say to
05:02 people as we put tequila smiles out there,
05:04 you're helping us put smiles on the
05:05 kids faces that really need it.
05:07 And so think about it when you're
05:09 looking for a fine tequila,
05:10 something all natural top shelf.
05:12 Send your reels a pick.
05:13 There it is.
05:13 Debbie, look at this is awesome.
05:15 Very quickly tell people they can find.
05:16 Yes, what else?
05:17 Total wine and I just actually have
05:19 a new partner in business with me.
05:20 Wonderful man.
05:21 His name is Joe Mantegna and people
05:23 know him from criminal minds.
05:25 Yes, I know lots of movies so he
05:27 is now co owner of senior repo.
05:29 Oh my goodness, that's wow, that's big.
05:32 That is big and I know Joe very blessed.
05:34 That's awesome Debbie again.
05:35 Thank you very much for coming in.
05:37 It's senior real tequila.
