00:03 More than 100 Chesterfield residents packed council meeting to hear Planning Committee
00:07 members give the go-ahead for a controversial large housing development to be built in their
00:11 rural neighbourhood.
00:13 Chesterfield Borough Council's Planning Committee voted by majority to approve planning
00:17 permission for William Davies Homes' scheme for 500 dwellings to be built from Dunstan
00:22 Road and Dunstan Lane between Sheetbridge and Cutthorpe.
00:26 Both councillors voted in favour of the planning application with two objecting and two abstaining
00:31 as the decision was met by jeers by members of the public.
00:35 Residents and Dunstan Grange Action Group had objected to the planning application on
00:39 34 hectares of agricultural fields on the basis of overdevelopment, congestion, traffic
00:44 concerns, flooding fears and the strain it would put on health services and schools.
00:50 But despite traffic and flooding concerns, the Planning Committee heard that the lead
00:54 consultee on these issues, Derbyshire County Council, had raised no objections subject
00:58 to certain conditions being met.
01:00 The council also said that the development aims to secure funding through the NHS to
01:05 the Clinical Care Commissioning Group and have requested nearly half a million pounds
01:09 towards the expansion of neighbouring GP practices.
01:14 Police have warned drivers to keep their vehicles safe after a spike in reports of break-ins
01:18 at a number of beauty spot car parks across the Peak District.
01:22 The Bakewell and Hathersidge Safer Neighbourhood Team have recently received a number of reports
01:26 about vehicles being broken into while parked at the beauty spots across the Peak District.
01:30 They are advising people to keep their cars secure and make sure that all valuables are
01:34 out of sight.
