Cooler, drier air in the Northeast and increasing storms across the Southwest will mark the new expectations for the first week of August.

00:00 Now as we look ahead to next week,
00:02 some areas are finally going to
00:03 begin to cool down as we mentioned,
00:05 and the relentless heat sticks
00:06 around for other parts of the
00:08 Southern Plains into the Central
00:09 Plains in the South.
00:10 So we're going to go to the chief
00:12 chief meteorologist Bernie Reno
00:13 and AccuWeather long range expert
00:14 Joe Ludberg break it down for us.
00:16 Well, as we take a look at next week,
00:20 Joe, we're looking at that upper level high.
00:23 That's been the dominant feature
00:25 over the last couple of weeks,
00:27 but next week shifts a little bit.
00:29 Shifts a little farther to the east.
00:31 It's kind of like an amoeba.
00:33 It's always changing shape in
00:34 and its location. You know,
00:36 at times it's been centered this far West,
00:38 and that's why the Southwest has seen
00:40 very little rain from the monsoon
00:42 season so far to date,
00:43 but it shifts eastward next week.
00:45 Consolidates over the central
00:46 and southern Plains.
00:47 That means for you in Oklahoma,
00:48 Kansas, Texas,
00:49 you're not going to get much rain.
00:51 There's no relief from heat,
00:52 but I hear the Rocky.
00:53 She gets some rain on the
00:55 flip side in the Northeast.
00:56 You're going to see some cooling relief.
00:58 You're going to see some
00:59 temperatures slightly below normal,
01:00 and you're going to see dry periods,
01:02 which is good news.
01:03 You know,
01:03 in the northern side of that upper high,
01:05 Joe, the last 30 days we've seen
01:07 rounds and rounds of showers and
01:08 thunderstorms and that really has
01:10 alleviated the drought in the
01:11 central and southern Plains.
01:12 It really has.
01:13 It's gone a long way.
01:14 It's not gone,
01:15 but it certainly made it big dinner.
01:16 You can just see the 30 day rainfall
01:18 totals over the Eastern Rockies
01:20 and much of the central Plain States.
01:22 That's front loaded.
01:22 That was really the first part
01:24 of that 30 day period of late.
01:26 It's been drying out and it looks
01:28 like with that Ridge of high pressure
01:30 in place it's going to get even
01:32 drier when we take you to the three
01:34 things Joe take us through next week.
01:35 The relentless heat is not going
01:37 away across the plains of the South.
01:39 Temperatures well above average
01:40 shots of cool air for the Northeast,
01:41 but you're going to see some rain
01:43 and shower activity in the Rockies.
