00:33 another Trump vote.
00:38 Hello welcome from the south, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Televisual Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:44 We begin with the news.
00:45 In Haiti, 10 protesters were killed amid gun violence in Saturday's shooting rampage.
00:50 A march led by a Christian church in Canaan, a makeshift neighborhood on the outskirts
00:54 of Port-au-Prince, was attacked by a gang that fired indiscriminately into the crowd.
00:59 Protesters from the Eglise Piscine de Bethesda, some armed men with machetes and sticks, had
01:04 gathered in an attempt to free the suburbs from the influence of gangs.
01:09 For the moment, governmental authorities, police and religious associations in the bouquets
01:13 in the north of Port-au-Prince have not issued an official statement about this massacre.
01:22 Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva participated in the 14th Conference for the
01:26 Heads of States and Government from the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries, which is
01:30 held in São Tomé and Príncipe.
01:33 The Brazilian president traveled to the African country from Angola to attend the meeting,
01:38 in a message published on his social media network X.
01:42 Lula da Silva described this meeting as an "important moment of strengthening and exchange
01:47 among member countries".
01:48 The CPLP is an organization that brings together Portuguese-speaking countries and Equatorial
01:53 Guinea, a nation where Portuguese has been one of the official languages since 2010,
01:58 along with Spanish and French.
02:00 Its goal is to deepen friendship and cooperation among its members in all fields.
02:05 This is the last stop of its tour around countries of the continent before returning to Brazil.
02:15 Brazil's Ministry of Finance approved the allocation of resources for the Youth in Peace
02:19 social program.
02:20 This is a plan with which the government of Guaulho Pessoa hopes to subsidize young people
02:25 in vulnerable regions to steer them away from crime and delinquency.
02:29 It is estimated the program will benefit some 100,000 people between the ages of 14 and
02:34 28, an investment of almost US$300,000.
02:38 The youngsters will receive a monthly estimate of at least US$245, which will allow them
02:44 to cover their basic needs and prevent them from being recruited to commit crime.
02:53 Also in Colombia, the Ministry of Health alerted about an outbreak of dengue fever that is
02:57 affecting 274 municipalities in the country.
03:00 The National Health Institute recorded that children under 14 years of age are the most
03:05 affected by the virus.
03:07 The health services indicated that although the cases are not serious, the alert is still
03:11 in effect due to the increase in this month.
03:14 Among the most affected localities are the districts of Cali and the departments of BolĂvar
03:18 and Antioquia.
03:19 The health agency warned that they estimate that the number of cases may increase due
03:24 to the habit of self-medication practiced by the community, and urged people to go to
03:29 a health care center in case of symptoms.
03:35 On the French island of Martinique, several clashes broke out between police and demonstrators
03:39 in the city of Fort-de-France, resulting in the arrest of two people as well as the destruction
03:44 of several vehicles and street furniture.
03:47 Local media reported that the violence erupted when a group of activists attempted to demonstrate
03:51 in front of the prefecture's headquarters.
03:53 Police dispersed the protesters with tear gas, at which point clashes broke out between
03:57 the two.
03:58 The reason for the protests is unknown, but social media suggests that activists were
04:02 demonstrating against violence on the Caribbean island and the policy of French authorities.
04:12 In Bolivia, the historical and cultural contribution of the Afro-Colombian communities was celebrated
04:16 during the National Afro-Bolivian Meeting.
04:19 The Minister of the Presidency, MarĂa Anel Laparada, pointed out that the people should
04:23 remain firm and united in the democratic and cultural revolution, with the reconstruction
04:28 of the economy and industrialization.
04:30 She affirmed that unity is the cornerstone to consolidate the plurinational, dignified
04:34 and sovereign state.
04:35 At the same time, she announced the construction of a headquarters for the Afro-Bolivian National
04:40 Council, and delivered a vehicle so that they could easily commute around the region.
04:49 In the US, an attorney filed a challenge against Donald Trump in federal court in Florida,
04:54 arguing that the former president cannot run in next year's US presidential election because
04:58 of his likely involvement in the January 2021 Capitol riots.
05:02 The plaintiff, identified as Lawrence Kaplan, alleged that a clause of the 14th Amendment
05:07 to the US Constitution provides that persons who have participated in an insurrection or
05:13 rebellion against the government may not hold any office in the government.
05:17 Kaplan also argued that the indictments filed by juries in Washington, D.C. and Georgia,
05:22 which are investigating Trump's efforts to remain in power after losing the 2020 election,
05:27 makes his disqualification from holding public office automatic.
05:47 The 10th tropical depression became Tropical Storm Italia in the Caribbean Sea as it moves
05:52 between Mexico and Cuba.
05:54 The Cuban Meteorological Institute's forecast center reported that the tropical storm has
05:59 maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h with higher gusts, and it is now slowly moving east at
06:05 only 4 km/h.
06:07 The system's wide wind circulation would keep the rainfall areas very close to the national
06:11 territory.
06:12 Then, strong and intense precipitations are highly likely to fall on Sunday, particularly
06:17 over the western region.
06:18 This institute remains alert and is monitoring the development of the natural phenomenon.

07:02 trade relations amid geopolitical tensions.
07:05 During her four-day trip, Raimondo will visit the cities of Beijing and Shanghai, where
07:10 she will meet with senior Chinese officials to discuss various issues of common interest,
07:14 including U.S. restrictions on technology exports to China.
07:18 Raimondo's visit, the third by a senior U.S. official in the past two months, comes at
07:22 a time of rising tensions, especially over technology transfer.
07:31 On Sunday, U.S. military officials reported three U.S. Marines have died when an Ausf.
07:36 III aircraft crashed on a remote tropical island during war games north of Australia's
07:40 mainland.
07:41 The aircraft was taking part in the Predators Run drills involving thousands of soldiers
07:45 from the U.S. and Australia, as well as Indonesia and the Philippines.
07:49 The U.S. Marine Rotational Force in Darwin said there were a total of 23 personnel on
07:53 board at the time of the crash, and Australia's military said only U.S. citizens were involved.
08:00 Five crew members have been flown to Royal Darwin Hospital in a serious condition.
08:04 Rescue efforts were complicated by the location of the crash.
08:06 The remote and sparsely populated Melville Island, about 60 kilometers north of the nearest
08:12 city Darwin, northern Australia, has become an important staging ground for the U.S. military
08:17 in recent years, as Washington and Canberra work together to counter China's growing influence
08:22 in the Asia-Pacific region.
08:28 The Russian investigative committee confirmed on Sunday the death of the head of the Wagner
08:32 Group, Yevgeny Prigoshin, in the plane crash that occurred this week in the Russian province
08:36 of Zver.
08:38 Following the completion of molecular genetic testing of those killed in the crash, the
08:42 committee said in a statement that the identities of the tendencies correspond to the lists
08:46 presented in the flight log.
08:48 Following the crash, the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency published a full list of
08:52 people on board the plane.
08:53 It included Yevgeny Prigoshin and Dmitry Kudkin, one of the founders and commanders of the
08:59 Wagner Group.
09:00 On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to the families
09:04 of those killed in the crash.
09:09 DNA examinations for the investigations of the plane crash in the Zver region have been
09:17 completed.
09:18 The identities of all 10 victims were established in the results, which correspond to the
09:23 list stated.
09:26 Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for the inclusion of the African Union in
09:29 the G20.
09:30 The Prime Minister also proposed India as a solution to the problems of the global supply
09:34 chain.
09:35 Ahead of the upcoming G20 summit to be held in September in New Delhi, Prime Minister
09:39 Modi called on the African Union to join the multinational organization that brings together
09:44 85% of the world's gross domestic product and two-thirds of the world's population,
09:49 even though South Africa may be the only member from the African continent.
09:54 Modi also stressed that India is the solution to create an efficient and reliable global
09:58 supply chain in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
10:05 The Government of India announced new regulations to cut the illegal export of non-basmati white
10:10 rice, with restrictions on foreign sales starting on July 20 this year.
10:14 Among the new actions, it was determined that contracts for basmati exports with a value
10:19 of $1,200 per tonne only and above must be registered for the issuance of a certificate
10:26 of allocation.
10:27 Those below that amount will be evaluated by a committee to be established by the Presidency
10:33 of the Authority for the Development of Exports of Processed Agricultural and Food Products.
10:39 The measure comes after the Ministry of Commerce of the Asian country informed that irregularities
10:43 were detected such as the misclassification of the cereal to disguise its export under
10:48 the course of parboiled and basmati rice.
10:55 In France, a Republican Party will ask President Emmanuel Macron for a referendum on immigration.
11:00 Eric Chiodi announced that next Wednesday, at the meeting of the head of state, he will
11:05 present the proposal focused on suppressing the rights of illegal immigrants and benefits
11:09 for parents who have not fulfilled their duties.
11:12 Chiodi made the clarifications in response to President Emmanuel Macron, who in recent
11:16 days said that immigration should be reduced and continue to back through schools, integration
11:21 of the Republic and the economy.
11:28 On Sunday, Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings opened its treated water dilution and discharge
11:34 facility at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant to journalists.
11:37 The plant, damaged by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, began discharging treated water
11:42 into the Pacific on Thursday despite protests at home and in neighboring countries that
11:46 add political and diplomatic pressures to economic concerns.
11:50 The release has been strongly opposed by fishing groups.
11:52 China immediately banned seafood imports from Japan, raising concerns among fishing communities
11:59 and related businesses.
12:00 The Japanese government and the plant operator claimed that the water must be released to
12:05 make way for the decommissioning of the facility and to prevent accidental releases of insufficiently
12:11 treated water.
12:12 However, some officials argued that most of the water retained in the tanks still contains
12:17 radioactive materials exceeding releasable levels.

12:53 Welcome back from the south.
13:16 In Zimbabwe, President Emerson Ndangawa was re-elected for a second and final five-year
13:20 term.
13:21 Ndangawa's victory meant the Sanupiyep party retained the governmental leadership it has
13:26 held for all 43 years of Zimbabwe's history since the nation was renamed following independence
13:31 from white minority rule in 1980.
13:34 According to Zimbabwe's electoral commission, 80-year-old Ndangawa won 52.6% of the votes
13:40 in the mid-week election, while 45-year-old main opposition leader Nelson Chamisa got
13:46 44%.
13:47 Ahead of Saturday's announcement of the 2023 results, dozens of armed police with water
13:52 cannons guarded the National Results Centre, which was the scene of deadly violence after
13:56 the previous election five years ago, when soldiers killed six people during protests
14:00 over delays in announcing presidential election results.
14:03 "It's good that there is a new confidence which is beginning to be instilled among Zimbabweans
14:14 by what the president has been doing and that is reflected in the increased voter margin
14:20 which he had this time from the previous one and it also is reflected in the lower vote
14:26 margin which has gone to his main opposition and we held the main opposition advocate Nelson
14:34 Chamisa for a good show.
14:38 He didn't make it but it was a good show.
14:40 It shows that Zimbabweans are democratic.
14:43 We also want to salute Zalupi, the party which won the absolute majority, which we need.
14:51 We don't need anything other than the absolute majority because that's how you rule a country.
14:58 Only on extraordinary things do you need a two-thirds majority."
15:03 Speaking from Harare on Sunday, Zimbabwe's main opposition leader Nelson Chamisa announced
15:07 that he would contest the results.
15:09 Chamisa said the elections fell far short of international guidelines and were plagued
15:14 by unprecedented illegalities, irregularities and encyclopedic opacity and forces of darkness.
15:20 "There was therefore an illegality and criminality in the conduct of ZEC and all the polling
15:28 officers and officials that were involved.
15:31 The election process was fraught with unprecedented illegalities, irregularities and encyclopedic
15:39 opaqueness and forces of darkness, particularly FAS, which has become a spooky, ghostly and
15:47 shadowy organization that takes instructions from those spooky headquarters.
15:53 The election process itself fell far short of the standard guidelines on elections and
15:59 international electoral guidelines."
16:02 Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel concluded his tour of African countries with a visit
16:06 to Namibia, during his trip he held meetings with different counterparts in order to strengthen
16:11 bilateral ties.
16:12 Namibia was Diaz-Canel's last stop before returning to Cuba.
16:16 During his visit to that nation he held a meeting with his counterpart Heike Genkopp
16:20 in which they discussed matters of common interest.
16:22 The Cuban president participated as guest of honor in the celebration of the Heroes'
16:26 Day, which commemorated the country's war of independence.
16:29 At the same ceremony he received the Order of the Most Ancient Wilwichiya Mirabeles in
16:35 first degree, the highest decoration of the country.
16:38 The Cuban president previously visited Mozambique, Angola and South Africa, where he attended
16:42 the summit of a group of emerging economies, BRICS, held from August 22nd to the 24th in
16:48 the city of Johannesburg.
16:53 In Gabon on 4th this announced a nationwide curfew on Saturday and cut off internet access
16:59 after the end of general voting.
17:01 According to the nation's communications ministry, the curfew will be in effect from
17:05 7pm to 6am local time, while internet access will continue to be restricted indefinitely.
17:12 The measure was announced after the inhabitants voted to elect new local leaders, national
17:16 legislators and the next president of Gabon.
17:19 The ministry also explained that the announcement was a result of calls for balance and the
17:23 dissemination of fake news on social medias.
17:31 On Saturday tens of thousands of people rallied in Yamme, Niger in support of last month's
17:35 coup, a day after the country's new military leaders gave the French ambassador to Niger
17:40 48 hours to leave the country.
17:42 The Sainte-Conchie Stadium, the largest in Niger with a capacity of 30,000 seats, was
17:47 two-thirds full and "vuvuzelas" could be heard.
17:50 Flags of Niger, Algeria and Russia dotted the stands while acrobats painted in Niger's
17:55 national colours put on a show in the centre of the field.
17:58 Attendees say they fully supported the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Homeland,
18:03 which seized power after overthrowing the government of President Mohamed Bassem on
18:07 July 26.
18:08 The CNSP is focused on not stopping the fighting until the day when there are no more French
18:14 soldiers in Niger.
18:19 In Iran, the army is advancing in the production of aerial weapons and preparing for the export
18:25 of military defence products.
18:26 The commander-general of the Air Defence Force of the Iranian Army, Alireza Zavahifar, reported
18:32 that the Islamic Republic has achieved significant development in the production of drones and
18:36 defence equipment.
18:37 The general also said that Tehran has designed a wide range of local equipment over the past
18:42 few years to make the armed forces self-sufficient.
18:45 Iranian officials have warned that the country would not hesitate to strengthen its military
18:50 capabilities which are intended exclusively for defence.
