00:00 >> We'll go straight to questions for Jared.
00:03 >> Jared, we just want to hear about the 17 pound weight loss in one practice.
00:06 How do we do that?
00:07 >> Hawkins wants to know.
00:07 >> I need two of those.
00:08 >> Yeah, I just sweat a lot.
00:12 I have to drink a lot after practice and then eat even more than that.
00:15 So I mean, on an average, I normally lose probably about ten.
00:19 It was just a little bit warmer that day.
00:20 >> Jared, now that you've gotten through fall camp, second fall camp at TCU,
00:27 how much are you looking forward to getting out there on Saturday and
00:29 playing another opponent and your two at TCU in general?
00:33 >> Yeah, for about two weeks I've been like, all right, it's about time to go.
00:37 But yeah, I mean, just super excited to see what this team can do this year.
00:41 This offense is gonna be amazing.
00:43 As you all know, our defense is gonna perform really well.
00:46 So yeah, I mean, I'm just really excited for it.
00:49 >> Jared, last year we didn't know that Chandler was gonna be the starting
00:53 quarterback.
00:53 We all know what happened and what he went through.
00:55 What do you see different in him this year now that he's known for
00:59 a while and it's been his job basically to lose or win?
01:03 >> Yeah, I mean, he's just matured a lot from last year to this year.
01:06 I think that he's really grown as a leader on our offense.
01:11 He's not always the most vocal guy on the team, but in his actions and
01:15 how he carries himself and how he practices every day.
01:19 I mean, you can tell a lot of the younger guys and
01:22 even some of us older guys are really starting to gravitate towards that.
01:24 >> In addition to Chandler, just talk about the whole mindset of the team,
01:30 the difference that you saw last year before the first game against Colorado to
01:34 this year, how y'all's mindset has changed in this short amount of time.
01:37 >> Yeah, I think last year there was a big question mark,
01:40 whole new staff, a lot of new players for us.
01:42 So I mean, it's kind of like a hey, let's just get our feet wet type of deal last
01:46 year.
01:47 This year there's an expectation just for how we should perform week in and
01:52 week out.
01:52 And I feel like you can really feel that just through the energy of the team and
01:57 everything like that.
01:58 So I mean, yeah, there's definitely, like I said, some type of goal or
02:04 like an extra motivation for us this year to really go out there and perform well.
02:09 >> 13 wins in a bad way to get your feet wet, but
02:11 I know there's two losses at the end.
02:13 How much, the baseball championship game and
02:15 overtime and then obviously the championship game in short,
02:18 how much of that kind of bites y'all all year?
02:21 How long did it take to kind of get past that set with move forward?
02:25 >> Yeah, you're gonna feel some type of way about that.
02:28 You obviously wanna get those two games back.
02:30 But I think just for a lot of us older guys, we just kind of had to deal with it,
02:35 deal with the consequences of not playing your best in those two games and
02:39 just move on from it.
02:40 Learn from it as much as possible, but you can't let that hang over your head or
02:44 you can't dwell on it too long.
02:45 And then, cuz if you do that, you're not worried about this upcoming season.
02:49 >> Sonny said you guys have a bigger chip on your shoulders maybe than last year.
02:52 >> Yeah, for sure.
02:54 Definitely, I feel like we've gotten a lot of disrespect going into this season and
03:00 stuff, which that's fine.
03:03 It's just media talking, whatever.
03:05 So you kind of take that with a grain of salt, but yeah, we definitely feel that.
03:10 >> How do you feel like you guys are doing on offense?
03:13 >> I feel like it's been very well the past couple days.
03:17 It was a little shaky at the start of camp, but that happens.
03:21 You got a whole bunch of new faces, new coordinator, everything like that.
03:23 So yeah, I mean, today was probably our best practice as an offense,
03:28 which feels really good going into game one.
03:31 >> When you take a look at this offense overall,
03:33 the new scheme under Kendall Bryles, what are the strengths of this offense?
03:37 >> I mean, I don't really see a weakness, if I'm being honest with you.
03:42 We got guys on the outsides that can roll.
03:44 We have a lot of depth right there.
03:46 I mean, our inside receiver room is insane.
03:50 Our running backs are gonna be just as good as they were last year.
03:53 We got a great quarterback.
03:54 We have a really good tight end room.
03:55 So I mean, it's really just on us to execute whatever Coach Bryles wants us to do,
04:01 and that's really it.
04:02 >> Jer, when you were going out at Temple, is this what you envisioned?
04:07 What did you have in your mind coming out?
04:10 >> No, I mean, it's way different than what I obviously envisioned.
04:14 As a high schooler going in, you're thinking you're gonna be three and done,
04:18 three years in college, and you're gonna go to NFL.
04:21 And it's gonna be some fairytale story.
04:23 But what nobody told me was there's gonna be a lot of bumps in the road.
04:28 You're gonna have to transfer, you're gonna be hurt, you're gonna do this,
04:31 you're gonna do that, you're gonna go through a whole bunch of stuff.
04:33 So it's just a blessing to still be able to do this every day.
04:37 But no, I mean, definitely not what I pictured.
04:39 >> Was there a point when you were going through all that, and
04:42 before you transferred, was there ever a point where you thought,
04:46 maybe I'm not gonna continue?
04:50 >> No, never.
04:51 I mean, they're gonna have to tell me that I'm done with football.
04:55 Whoever has to tell me is gonna have to tell me, but
04:57 no, that never went through my head once.
04:59 >> Jer, how has your role as a leader on this team evolved or
05:05 changed since last season,
05:06 especially now that there's a lot of new younger guys on offense?
05:10 >> I think for me personally, last year I didn't have a great camp.
05:13 We were kinda still trying to see kinda what my role was on this offense last
05:18 year, but this year it's known, and I'm a known leader.
05:21 So that's just me practicing harder than what I did last year,
05:24 doing more in the film room, or whatever it takes to get those younger guys
05:29 kinda up to the standard that everybody else holds their self to.
05:34 I think that that's been the biggest difference for me.
05:37 >> We talk to lose so much weight in the one practice.
05:40 How do you combat that on Saturday when we know what it's gonna be?
05:45 I mean, what are you doing during the course of the game to
05:49 stay where you're at full speed?
05:50 >> Yeah, I get an IV before games.
05:54 We eat a lot on the sidelines.
05:57 We have a great nutrition staff that kinda stays in our hip pocket anytime
06:02 we, our offense isn't on the field.
06:04 So that I have salty Gatorades that I can drink.
06:08 I mean, there's a big, big number of different options that I'll have for
06:13 a game day, but they normally do a pretty good job of just making sure that I stay
06:17 on top of that.
06:18 >> Jared, when we talked to you in the spring, it was tough for
06:20 you to hide your excitement for Coach Browse being here and
06:23 how he utilizes the time in.
06:25 What has he kinda told you what he expects you to,
06:28 how you should be involved in the offense this year for them?
06:30 And how excited are you still?
06:32 >> Yeah, I'm still super excited about it.
06:34 But he's just, from what I've learned from him and heard from him,
06:39 it's just he just needs me to be a leader.
06:41 And everything else will come like it needs to.
06:46 And it'll come around to give me a pave in the back end.
06:49 So I'm excited for, like I said, what this offense can do.
06:53 And I think the possibilities for us this year are endless.
06:56 >> Jared, I'm gonna go back to that journey we were talking about.
06:59 Does that give you a better appreciation or
07:01 more appreciation for where you're at right now and what you're experiencing?
07:05 >> Yeah, without a doubt.
07:07 From the minute I got here last year, I've had a blast.
07:10 I mean, couldn't thank the staff enough for what they've done to me.
07:13 I mean, I'll be the first one to tell anybody that move from Texas to here.
07:20 It saved my career, in my opinion.
07:22 So it's just a big blessing for me.
07:25 >> Other than Griffin Kale, who's the best kicker on this team?
07:28 >> Me, definitely.
07:29 >> [LAUGH] >> Anything else for Jared?
07:32 Okay, thank you.
