Famous Astronaut and former commander of the International Space Station Chris Hadfield on September 01 hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for his role in the Indian Space Research Organisation. In an exclusive interview with ANI, he said, “Now the race is really, about who can push the technology in an economic way to turn it into a profitable space business for each of the countries involved and India is in a really strong leveraged position to do that. I think PM Modi has seen that for several years, he is very much directly involved with the ISRO. He is not just watching, but also closely monitoring and involved in their conversations because it is a national policy. So, I think it is a really smart move on India’s leadership part right now to be pushing it and developing it so that Indian businesses, people can benefit as much as possible.”

00:00 And I think Prime Minister Modi has seen that for several years.
00:03 He is very much directly involved with the Indian Space and Research Organization, with
00:09 Israel.
00:10 He's not just watching them do what they're doing.
00:12 He's very closely monitoring, but also involved in their conversations.
00:17 It's a really smart move, I think, on India's leadership's part right now.
00:22 The United States is still the world leader in space exploration.
00:25 Do you think that the space race, or like you said, the space game, could be, you know,
00:31 this could be just the beginning of a big change that could be coming?
00:35 And do you agree that India's mission marks a soft power win for Prime Minister Narendra
00:39 Modi?
00:40 You know, when I was born, Reena, no one had flown in space.
00:46 All of this, the space commerce, you know, GPS satellites, weather satellites, telecommunications,
00:54 exploring the moon, exploring the sun, all of that has happened in less than one lifetime.
01:00 So it's not so much a space race as it is a new space opportunity for everybody.
01:07 And now the race is really who can push the technology in an economic way to turn it into
01:14 profitable space businesses for each of the companies and each of the countries involved.
01:20 And India is in a really strong leveraged position to do that.
01:24 And I think Prime Minister Modi has seen that for several years.
01:27 You know, he is very much directly involved with the Indian Space and Research Organization,
01:33 with Israel.
01:34 You know, he's not just watching them do what they're doing.
01:38 He's very closely monitoring, but also involved in their conversations because it is national
01:45 policy.
01:46 It is pushing the wedge of technology forward so that all of those other businesses can
01:51 be in behind that wedge, taking advantage of all of the commerce that comes from satellites
01:58 around the earth, but also the earth moon economic system that is just starting to get
02:03 going down in history and then everything that lies beyond that.
02:06 So yeah, it's a really smart move, I think, on India's leadership's part right now to
02:13 be pushing it, to be developing it, but also being in the process of privatizing it so
02:18 that the businesses and therefore the Indian people can benefit as much as possible.
