00:00 Why do babies spit up?
00:01 Spitting is a common occurrence among healthy babies within the first three months of life.
00:06 The valve between the esophagus or the tube where the milk passes and the stomach keeps
00:11 the food from coming back.
00:12 However, this valve does not mature immediately at birth and will take time before it will
00:16 be able to consistently hold the food or milk in.
00:19 Do not confuse this with vomiting because when baby vomits, you will see a forceful
00:24 flow of milk or food from the mouth as opposed to spitting up where it looks more like milk
00:29 dribbling easily from the mouth.
00:31 The good news is most babies stop spitting by 12 months old.
00:36 Before then, it's considered normal as long as it doesn't affect your baby's well-being
00:40 and your baby's weight gain.
00:42 You can still lessen spit-ups after a feed by doing the following.
00:46 Do not forget to burp and keep your baby upright for longer.
00:50 If you are breastfeeding, you may consider evaluating your diet and discuss with your
00:54 doctor if there are some foods that you might want to avoid.
