00:00 >> Okay, start things off, you talked yesterday about wanting to get off to
00:04 a fast start, what do you think let you do that today?
00:07 >> Yeah, I think we did a great job, made them call timeout pretty quick.
00:13 So yeah, I mean, that's what we're looking for and
00:16 game one was more in line of what we've been striving.
00:20 >> What was discussed during that second set timeout that changed the momentum and
00:24 led to the 9-0 run?
00:26 >> It's really about just us and our standards, we get in these ruts right now
00:32 that we fall a little below what we talk about training wise.
00:36 And it's just a reminder of like, hey, who we are, what we train about, and
00:41 yeah, and I think we just made a couple of plays there that got that run going.
00:46 >> Utah State is a team that returned almost every player from last year when
00:50 they made the tournament.
00:51 And so they're a pretty good team and you guys were able to dominate them.
00:56 So what does that say about this team's potential?
00:58 >> I mean, we know our potential is high, we know we have a high ceiling,
01:03 but right now we're just we're not there yet, we're working on it.
01:07 But Utah State is a great team.
01:09 They'll probably be a tournament team again this year.
01:12 I suspect they'll win their conference.
01:15 And yeah, they have a lot of experience coming back.
01:16 But tonight's lineup was, that wasn't their normal lineup.
01:20 They had to make a couple of changes and
01:22 we're just fortunate to be able to take advantage of that.
01:24 >> Gotcha.
01:25 So Melanie Parra's serve seemed to be more on point today than it was yesterday.
01:29 She, I think, had only one service error.
01:32 And but today, I think she had a couple aces.
01:35 So what can you say about her performance along with the kills and the serves?
01:39 >> Yeah, I know, she had a great match.
01:40 I mean, 19 kills and three sets is excellent, right?
01:45 And but we've been working on trying to get her serve back.
01:48 Last year she was top five server in the country.
01:51 I feel like when she's on, she's a game changer.
01:55 And just getting her confidence back, getting her rhythm back.
01:59 But tonight was kind of showed what she can do.
02:02 And yeah, really proud about that.
02:04 And really her miss was really what I would consider a good miss.
02:08 So just yeah, an amazing serving night for her.
02:13 >> And then you guys dominated the first set.
02:15 But after that, it seemed like it was kind of a game of runs, going back and forth.
02:19 So how do you stay the course in a game that has a bunch of ups and
02:22 downs like that?
02:23 >> I mean, we don't wanna be in games like that.
02:26 We obviously love the runs when we can get them on our own.
02:29 But we're trying not to give up runs.
02:31 So there was just some poor decisions that were happening that we're trying
02:36 to work through.
02:37 But we're not quite, like I said, we're not quite there yet in terms of our offense.
02:43 So we're working through that.
02:45 And I expect it to be better and
02:47 hopefully not have to go through too many of those ups and downs.
02:51 >> And then would you tell the team during that last time out,
02:53 right before the final run to win the match?
02:56 >> Yeah, I mean, we play a game where we train or we play,
03:01 we have a drill where it's training for no errors.
03:04 That we're gonna be aggressive, but we're gonna make the other team have to score.
03:08 And I just remind them what we work to be in that situation.
03:11 And we need people to make plays.
03:14 And Jalen, we had a couple of good kills.
03:16 But then Jalen went back there and got a stop block.
03:19 And then went back and served and finished the game off for us.
03:23 So it was a great finish.
03:25 >> Yes, sir.
03:26 And lastly, looking forward to A&M tomorrow.
03:29 They're probably the toughest team that you guys are gonna face in the tournament
03:33 so far.
03:34 So how do you guys prepare for them?
03:36 >> Well, they're physical.
03:37 But that's why we go fast is to counter the physicality.
03:41 And we just need to play within our system.
03:46 They have some really good players, but
03:49 Jamie hasn't had a lot of time to work his full system.
03:52 So there are some weaknesses there and some cracks in their block.
03:56 And we just need to get to where we wanna be.
04:00 And yeah, we'll be ready to battle with them tomorrow night.
04:03 >> All right, that's all I got, coach.
