00:00 On January 2nd, 2021, Steve Sarkeesian was hired by Texas as the 31st head coach in program history.
00:08 Per usual, many questioned the hire.
00:10 However, after Saturday night's 34-24 win over Nick Saban and his Crimson Tide team in T-Town,
00:17 he not only proved everyone wrong, but also proved himself right.
00:21 To be fair, it was a risky move for the Longhorns as they were coming off of another disappointing season,
00:27 but also investing in a coach trying to resurrect his career.
00:31 Sarke's tenure started rocky, finishing his first season 5-7 with a lot of blown double-digit leads.
00:38 Sarke was then able to secure a top-end recruiting class,
00:42 but that was not enough for many Longhorn fans to put him on the hot seat.
00:47 Year two, things seemed to get a little bit better as the Horns finished 8-4 and secured an elite class,
00:53 along with the most highly publicized recruit in the modern era in Arch Manning.
00:59 More than the recruits, Sarke was successfully beginning to change the culture of this Texas program.
01:04 A program that was once filled with disappointment, entitlement, and complacency
01:09 was now being filled with a family atmosphere and all about buying in.
01:14 This Texas program has come full circle and is not recognizable in all of the right ways.
01:20 Coach Sarke not only took down his former boss in Nick Saban Saturday night,
01:24 but he became the first former assistant ever to do so at Bryant-Denny,
01:28 breaking a 57-non-conference win streak for the Tide in T-Town.
01:33 While there is still a lot of work to be done and a lot of football to be played
01:37 before Longhorn faithfuls are completely satisfied,
01:40 they can now rest easy that they have the right guy at the helm of this beloved program.
01:46 From Longhorns Country, I'm Alexandra Cox.
