00:04:31 I was competing for coxswain rowing.

00:04:37 I represented the state, and I was training,
00:04:40 hoping to reach the Olympics.

00:04:45 But I really love to sing, and it makes me very happy.
00:04:48 It's just like a safe space.

00:04:53 You get a little microphone when you're a cox.
00:04:56 Sometimes I just sing something really random.
00:04:58 So yeah, I was kind of always thinking about music.

00:05:05 I'd always kind of come off the sessions and off the water
00:05:08 with a really raspy voice, and it wasn't healthy.
00:05:11 It was too much for my voice, and I kind of had to make a decision,
00:05:14 which one do I want to do?
00:05:16 So I had to give up coxing.

00:05:22 It was a really hard choice, but my dream is music.
00:05:25 ♪ ♪
00:05:28 For my blind audition, I'll be singing a Jason song,
00:05:31 but I'll be putting my own spin on it.

00:05:36 It's a bit nerve-wracking to sing a coach's song,
00:05:38 because there's that extra pressure,
00:05:40 'cause you don't want to, like, disrespect the song
00:05:42 by doing it badly or anything.

00:09:06 So when one is just listening to the song, it feels very happy,
00:09:10 but the story is way deeper
00:09:13 and way more blood, sweat, and tears in it,
00:09:15 and you brought that to the forefront here with this performance.
