00:00 News nobody's talking about.
00:02 Back in June after the solar panel industry spent millions on lobbying, the Biden administration
00:06 quietly paused tariffs on solar panels imported from Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
00:11 It's important to note that the tariffs still apply to China.
00:13 Fast forward to today, solar panel stocks have been absolutely rallying, with companies
00:17 like First Solar up almost 200% since the pause was announced.
00:20 But here's the catch.
00:21 The Department of Commerce just announced that multiple companies have been buying Chinese-made
00:25 solar panels.
00:26 And they've been sending them to countries that have the tariffs removed, then sending
00:28 them to the United States.
00:30 Other than tax evasion, the reason that this is such a big deal is because the main material
00:33 used to make solar panels is called polysilicon.
00:36 And China gets its polysilicon from a province called Xinjiang, which happens to be the same
00:40 place where Uyghur forced labor camps are located.
00:42 A place where the US bans imports for this very reason.
00:45 Additionally, the refining process for polysilicon involves heating it up to 1000 degrees Celsius,
00:49 and this province, one of the largest consumers of coal per capita, are using it to produce
00:53 polysilicon.
00:54 Now, other than all the human rights, environmental, and maritime laws being broken by these companies,
00:58 the reason I'm telling you this is because soon, the Commerce Department is going to
01:01 finalize their report.
01:02 And if their early theory they announced today still holds water, there's no doubt that they'll
01:06 recommend to the Biden administration to reimpose these tariffs on the industry.
01:10 Which would bring a quick end to the stock rally that the solar panel companies have
01:13 been enjoying so far.
01:14 Until then, check out my website to see if lawmakers are buying or selling solar stocks
01:18 ahead of the announcement, and thanks for watching.
