00:00 Hey everyone and welcome back to the Killer Frogs postgame show here at A.M. & G. Carter Stadium where the TCU Horned Frogs
00:05 Took care of business against the SMU Mustangs beating them 34 to 17
00:10 It was a wonderful game here today and winning the iron skill was massive for the team
00:14 I'm alongside Zion Trammell, Carson Wurstall. My name is Ian Depechian
00:18 Just simply starting off. What are you guys's general thoughts on the win?
00:22 Obviously a big win for the team a good way to continue that good form against a team like SMU
00:27 Just what are you guys's general thoughts?
00:30 Yeah, like you said, I think that's a that's a really good win against a rivalry school like SMU
00:35 I mean, they're we're literally in their backyard and it feels really good to
00:40 Show dominance once again
00:42 And prove that TCU is the better team
00:45 I mean my main takeaway was that the defense continues to show up in the second half
00:52 first half it always seems like we kind of get off to a slow start, but
00:57 When it counts that TCU defense is lethal and can absolutely change the game for our favor
01:03 Yeah, I would say this is a really statement a big statement win for the Horned Frogs coming in a rivalry game
01:10 You know, we're not sure how much longer these there's only one more matchup left with between SMU and TCU and from there
01:16 We'll see what happens
01:17 So I think this felt a little more
01:19 Personal for both teams and both teams came out with a lot of energy early on and the Horned Frogs are able to pull away
01:25 But really pleased with the offense
01:27 I felt the chemistry between Chandler Morris and his receivers was a lot better this week
01:32 And you know, they did feel like they left a few points on the board in the red zone
01:36 But the fact they're able to put up 34 points is a pretty pretty good start and you hope to continue that as you get
01:42 into a big 12 play and
01:44 Just continuing there with the offense one player that we have to highlight is a Amani Bailey
01:49 He had his third game this season of over a hundred rushing yards on the ground
01:54 I mean just talk about him and what he means to this offense and what that running game further allows us offense to do
01:59 then in the passing game
02:01 Yeah, I think I'm on a Bailey having over a hundred yards rushing. I think it was over 140 this time around
02:07 I think that takes a lot of the pressure off of Chandler Morris and allows him to actually stay comfortable
02:13 throughout the game
02:16 TCU continues to step up in the second half
02:20 it seems like Amani Bailey kind of turned it on as well as the offensive line and
02:24 Honestly, you can't ask for more. I have an offense that needs to be a
02:30 ground and pound offense
02:32 Yeah, you got to give credit to TC for sticking with the run like you just mentioned the fact that yeah
02:38 Things may have not the holes weren't opening up in the beginning, you know
02:41 I assume you was doing a good job of filling the gaps
02:43 But you stick with it because you know that's your strength and Imani Bailey really show that physicality to get
02:50 Extra yards and that really proved critical for TCU
02:53 I was really pleased to see with what they're able to do on the ground
02:57 So now continuing with the conversation about the offense
03:00 I mean Chandler Morris found 11 different targets in this game against SM
03:04 You talked to me about Chandler Morris
03:06 Some of the improvements that you guys have seen to make over the last couple weeks since that week one loss to Colorado
03:10 Yeah, it's not like making any huge strides
03:17 Biggest thing with him right now is that he's making constant
03:19 That's all you can ask for if you're sunny dice. I mean is to have your QB one getting better every single week
03:27 the fact that he's able to hit 11 targets or
03:31 Just throughout the game
03:34 Especially when you're thinking about those heavyweight teams that TCU has going later in the season
03:39 There's 11 different guys that can catch the ball. That's a nightmare for any defensive coordinator
03:43 Try to prepare against
03:46 Yeah, it's also a sign that he's progressing through his reads a lot better
03:50 You know last season Quinton Johnston seemed to be the consistent guy that would get a lot of the targets
03:54 Now that you don't have them anymore
03:56 You have to look for other guys to step in and I think each receiver brings a unique set of skills and Kendall Brazos is
04:02 Really starting to figure that out and see how he can incorporate each of his receivers and draw up plays to get them open
04:07 And I think Chandler's trusting them. The offensive line is giving him more time and we're seeing him be a lot more decisive
04:15 Now shifting gears and kind of talking about this defense they had a stellar performance here today
04:21 This was the first game at least in terms of turnovers that the offense didn't commit a single turnover
04:26 But in terms of talking about the defense they forced two interceptions Bud Clark and Josh Newton each got a pick today
04:32 What are your guys's thoughts on how this defense has developed since that week one loss and where you guys see them going as well?
04:38 Yeah, Josh Newton obviously getting the pick is huge just to kind of get him rolling
04:44 He's he's a vital part to this TC defense potentially the most vital part
04:49 But to see Bud Clark
04:52 I think that's also huge because the first two games Bud Clark did not look great
04:58 He looked slow and he was getting turned around by receivers
05:01 I think it's really good to kind of get those guys going and like I said the fact that we're able to
05:11 Stop them in the second half is really really good. And I I also kind of have to
05:16 Apologize to Joe Gillespie because I have criticized the three five three front
05:21 pretty much the entire season so far and
05:25 To see it to see them do that in the second half and limit SMU is really really cool to see
05:33 Yeah, it's sometimes it's not all about the scheme
05:36 It's about the players executing that scheme and I think the big thing today
05:39 What I noticed was the secondary winning those one-on-one battles
05:42 They got a lot of pass deflections really winning those battles at the point of the at the point of attack there
05:48 And I really liked what I saw from the secondary
05:51 you know, the defense was really good in those third and short situations and
05:54 They came up with big stops on fourth down to really give the offense some momentum
05:59 So overall I think the defense is really taking that that big leap and I think we can continue to have higher
06:07 Expectations now for the defense when they were a little lower in week one
06:10 Now talking about expectations next weekend TCU hosts the West Virginia Mountaineers here at a MNG Carter Stadium
06:17 What do you guys hope to see the team continue on whether it's trends on offense defensive pressure on the quarterback?
06:24 What do you guys hope to see in next weekend's game against the Mountaineers?
06:27 I'll take a page out of Josh Newton's book
06:30 Energy, I think that was one of the biggest things today against a rivalry team. I think that
06:37 Having that energy throughout the entire game, especially coming out towards the second half. I think that's gonna be the difference really
06:44 Yeah, bringing that energy continue to emphasize the running game
06:48 Secondary continues to you know improve and winning at the catch point is what I meant saying not the point of attack
06:54 But it's it's important that TCU continues this momentum
06:58 They stay confident and they believe in themselves because this is a good football team
07:02 And I think they can go far if they continue to believe in themselves
07:06 Well now three in one the TCU Horned Frogs and Sunny Dykes will host the West Virginia Mountaineers here at a MNG Carter Stadium
07:13 Next weekend on Saturday be sure to watch that game
