00:00 Hello, it's Martin Dempster, the Scotsman golf correspondent here and for a change I'm
00:06 not coming to you from a golf course. I'm in the centre of Rome, just down from the
00:12 Spanish Steps and by pure chance on a wee visit in tonight the two teams are in the
00:19 background getting their pictures taken ahead of a dinner tonight, one of the formal events
00:26 that they have to take part in. So, great excitement, we just heard some chants of Europe,
00:32 Europe and then a sort of response from some Americans as well, just a sign that the whole
00:40 atmosphere is really building up. This is only the third Ryder Cup to be staged in continental
00:46 Europe, the first one was in Valderrama in 1997 and then of course the win in France
00:54 for Europe in 2018. What a fantastic city this is for the Ryder Cup to be held, full
01:01 of history and the players and officials on both sides are really excited to be here,
01:08 obviously wrapping up the history of this great city. But of course it's all about what
01:14 happens on the golf course, the three day event, 44th edition of the Ryder Cup starts
01:19 on Friday, the players have all been in for their interviews now, all that remains to
01:24 be seen is how the teams will go out on Friday morning, we'll find that out on Thursday.
01:31 So great excitement about that, great excitement about the Ryder Cup, it's just very, very
01:35 special and this one's not going to be any different. So keep in touch with thescotsman.com
01:41 and the Scotsman for all the news about the Ryder Cup.
