There is talk of banning mobile phones completely from schools to help boost concentration and reduce screen time. Is this a good idea?
Transcript
00:00 Yeah, I think so, I think it'd be a good idea.
00:03 Because when they're at home, they don't talk to their families or anything like that,
00:07 and I think it's a good idea, because I was brought up,
00:10 if you get a lunch, dinner, you're supposed to sit at the table together,
00:14 but this chap, but this Danish, they don't seem to bother,
00:17 and the parents don't seem to bother either.
00:20 So what about in schools, do you think that it's a bit of a problem,
00:23 and do you think that taking them out of school, out of the hands of school,
00:27 do you think that would help them in their education?
00:30 Yeah, I think so, yeah.
00:31 Do you think it's distracting?
00:32 I think so, yeah.
00:34 Because I think, well, when they're talking to their friends,
00:38 they're always texting all the time, and the teacher should take them off,
00:41 and say, "Right, you can have them back when school's finished,"
00:45 that's what I think.
00:47 I think it's a good idea, because people sometimes cheat going on Google,
00:52 getting the answers to the homework questions,
00:56 and also, social media, I think, should be kept to a minimum in schools,
01:02 for learning purposes, and not for going on TikTok.
01:08 So that's my reason.
01:10 Although, mobile phones should be kept at the teacher's desk
01:14 when the children enter, for emergency purposes,
01:18 i.e. relatives passing away, sickness and illness and stuff like that.
01:24 Yeah, and also, I think kids quite like having a phone
01:27 when they come out of school, and parents can contact them.
01:30 So, do you think that would be, if you could get the balance right,
01:32 that would be an idea?
01:33 That's a great idea, because obviously, there's been a spate of incidents
01:38 across the North West, where children have been approached,
01:43 somebody's trying to pick them up, i.e. a divorcee parent
01:46 who shouldn't be picking them up,
01:48 who don't have access to their children at that time.
01:51 So that's a good idea, that's a safety reason.
01:55 I sit on the fence about it, to be honest with you.
01:59 I'm all for...
02:01 Because there's a lot of kids that can't read books now,
02:04 or don't take books home and don't do a lot of reading.
02:08 So, I've just got to the point now where I've written an illustration book.
02:17 OK.
02:18 And it's not solely aimed at kids, but it's to do with mental health.
02:23 So, it's more about getting them interactive within the class
02:28 and learning amongst themselves and stuff like that.
02:32 I don't agree with it.
02:35 For numerous reasons, like I said, children get bullied in school.
02:40 If they have to take a different route home,
02:42 how are they going to get in contact with their parents
02:43 to let them know what they're saying?
02:47 My children do have mobile phones.
02:49 They're making a certain time to do the homework.
02:53 How about in the classroom?
02:56 Not in the classrooms, no.
02:57 She will turn it off when she goes to school.
03:00 I think that's what other children should do, turn it off.
