00:00 Let's talk about PMA. What's going on in your organization? Obviously you're doing advocacy on sustainability. You're doing mentoring
00:06 also
00:08 as an organization, but also as individual members
00:12 What can we see?
00:15 in a near future from you guys
00:17 So maybe I'll start. The PMA is also doing its national marketing conference. Okay. It's the gathering of
00:27 marketers all over the country to talk about
00:30 Metaverse marketing. Our theme or title is called Ready Marketing One inspired by the film Ready Player One
00:38 Yes, gamified everything so we would be talking about actual use cases
00:45 actual successful case studies abroad that could be implemented here in the country and even local case studies that could be seen
00:53 by the CMOs and
00:56 SMEs to implement in their own company. So that's one of the
00:59 It's going to happen on November 8th. Okay at the Ducitani Hotel
01:05 Is that something that people can go to or do you have to be a member of the PMA?
01:09 It's open to everyone. We'll be announcing the
01:13 Ticket platforms where they can purchase. It's open to all if you want to know more about
01:19 Metaverse marketing actual executions possible of executions
01:24 Omni-channel all the things that we've talked about earlier
01:27 There'd be an in-depth talk with the experts that we've invited local and abroad
01:33 Interesting and then for the youth, what's the is this something that they can participate in as well?
01:40 or
01:42 For the professionals. That's why we also want to invite
01:46 Okay, you to become members of the Philippine Marketing Association
01:50 And what does it take to be a PMA? Well as of the moment our parameter is you need to have at least five years
01:57 experience, okay, I
01:59 And but if you are a manager
02:02 You are functioning
02:05 Functioning as a manager. We only need at least two years. I see as an experience. Yes. Oh, yeah, so
02:11 In PMA, it's not you do not look
02:16 You do not just learn you you are actually being a platform to to elevate your career
02:22 You get to have awards. You also have Agora Awards
02:26 For the professionals and also for the youth so we recognize
02:31 top-caliber
02:33 marketing
02:34 What about companies are looking to network or maybe to?
02:37 Yes, get some coaching. Is that is the marketing association a place to do that or yes
02:45 It's a community of thought leaders
02:48 and then
02:50 we
02:52 Being as a head of them. Maybe we can act as mentors to the young ones
02:56 Or we learn from them, reverse mentoring. Sure. We learn from each other
03:02 Practices actual execution so sometimes because we're agnostic and there's various industry in PMA
03:08 You get to learn her industry his industry. Sure an example is I don't know anything about papers
03:14 But when I met Leigh and PMA, you know, I get to be immersed in in her company
03:19 Yeah, well, you know you since you brought up that's very interesting you work for prestige paper products
03:24 You know, there's certainly the topics of
03:28 sustainability
03:30 Right. It comes to mind
03:32 What drew you to the Philippine Marketing Association?
03:36 And how has it benefited you as an executive of prestige?
03:41 Well, because I think this is the perfect platform to really promote for you know, responsible
03:47 Promotional materials. Okay, like as we know we do a lot of point-of-purchase materials in marketing
03:54 Especially on the retail aspect of it. We do a lot of posters
03:59 We want to advocate more
04:02 biodegradable and recyclable materials
04:05 So this is a perfect community for that and also we also want to advocate better packaging to elevate our brands
04:13 Especially for the micro a small and medium companies to become more globally competitive in terms of packaging
04:20 But keeping sustainability in mind because you cannot just elevate your packaging
04:25 But doing a lot of plastic lamination or is still packaging it with plastic
04:30 So sorry like because the trend right now. It's the purpose there when you do the lamination, right? Yes, that's why
04:36 being me in the
04:39 My presence in the Philippine Market Marketing Association is that we also have some sort of like we call it self branding
04:45 Sure, or personal branding. So I'm known in the Philippine Marketing Association as a sustainability advocate
04:52 Okay, what about you Brian? I mean you're in your business interests are more diverse, but what are you known as?
04:58 In PMA I started there
05:01 Volunteering for events and my company's really more of the creatives and event execution side
05:07 okay, so we actually did together with Donald Lim the first Philippine blockchain week and we did the
05:14 Southeast Asia games of the Call of Duty mobile. So I'm into really
05:21 As a millennial, I'm really into gaming and the new emerging technology
05:27 So we support the creatives graphics execution. Actually next year. We'll be launching newer games as I stepped down as the president
05:35 So I'd be focused more on our business and aside from that we have a mall
05:41 It's called 88 square. It's a family business
05:47 It's located at the Paraniake and we have the in relation to sustainability
05:52 We have the first
05:55 interactive
05:56 SDG museum in the country called change makers
06:00 2040 so if you get to visit
06:02 That you'll be immersed more when it comes to sustainability while integrating
06:09 AR/VR into the equation, so it's a combination of both when you visit that interactive you see
06:16 Well, Brian is the metaverse guy
06:18 You're the sustainability guy
06:23 You're the metaverse guy, but just going back to something more serious, you know, and I we started with this question
06:29 How far are we from you know?
06:33 your vision of the future of marketing because
06:36 We talked about these technologies. We talked about the problems on the ground here
06:41 You guys are practitioners yourself you talk to other
06:45 practitioners
06:48 You know our our marketing professionals competitive in this new era of
06:54 metaverse AI
06:57 Quantum mechanics. I mean, are we how far are we from becoming really major players?
07:02 You think Filipino Filipino businesses Filipino managers?
07:06 Filipino marketing professors, how far are we?
07:08 Siguro I could say that we are not really that far. Okay, because we are good
07:14 We are really curious and we really seek seek the knowledge the advancements you'd see Filipinos participating into
07:22 international conferences and we are fast when it comes to
07:27 Migrating adapting. So maybe it's our it's part of our culture and as Donald Lim says, you know
07:34 We are not probably far to become the
07:37 Asia's blockchain capital of the world
07:42 Although I must say that we are not yet at the maturity stage. Yes
07:46 We're still there are a lot of communication efforts still that we need to do. Sure
07:51 And what would be the message of of that? Is it as you said about sustainability?
07:57 Is it about ethics or is it simply know-how?
07:59 Because as you say, you know, we're we're not too far off
08:03 But when you say there's communication that needs to be done what what would the messaging entail?
08:11 well in when it comes to probably with metaverse what
08:14 So basically
08:17 Technical is that is our this? Yes the technical know-how
08:19 Because the creatives we have it already
08:22 Even outside countries outsource it from the Philippines, right?
08:26 So with the push of the government with the push of private entities to really empower everyone all the stakeholders
08:33 We are really towards there. Yeah, right
08:36 I'm not saying that we're there already. Yeah, but there are some companies already was practicing it
08:41 We just have to follow the examples sure, but in terms of planet we are lagging behind
08:46 So we need to have more concrete actions now because the communication part has been done. Sure
08:53 Yes, especially to need to push. Yeah, yeah act on it. Okay, and then you know
09:00 The government is doing a lot of digitalization
09:04 But you know, they're there and with the purpose of reducing bureaucracy
09:08 Do you see some convergence there with what you do? And I don't know what your
09:14 Particularly your customers say about you know, not just with marketing but maybe
09:19 In doing business in general in the Philippines. What are you hearing from them?
09:25 First I applaud the president's really pushed for
09:30 Digitalization, right? There are a lot of platforms really collaborating with the government to really execute the best way to really digitize
09:38 our systems our processes
09:41 It's just that
09:43 Not all are really adopting yet
09:45 But if blockchain would be adopted examples of applications would be NFT land titles
09:53 National ID that is an NFT in the blockchain
09:56 So, you know, you need to work on the data privacy data privacy. So, you know, there are so many things
10:02 we've
10:04 Implemented the blocking of the SIM cards and yet right now we're still getting I'm still getting
10:09 It's actually the enforcement of law and for sustainability if I may just add
10:18 Because there's a lack of
10:21 There's a lack of ecosystem. For example, the recycled waste the recycled plastic. There's no
10:26 There's no
10:29 And buyers, right you recycle it but who's buying the recycled material?
10:33 So, you know the enforcement of the EPR law is also very important and you know
10:38 There should be a value chain total value chain not just only collecting the waste recycling the waste
10:44 But who's using the waste sure, but we are still very hopeful that it's going to be implemented. Well because they are
10:51 anchoring the private
10:53 Right the private institution as well and the consumers is also demanding from it aside from gamification
10:59 Sustainability is really one main aspect that consumers are looking at. I think the data is around
11:04 loyalty also
11:06 Interesting and the Gen Z's are really more cognizant in terms of you know of of sustainability
11:11 And then they buy products that that resonates with them. They buy products that has value
11:19 So that's why we also be we as marketers as well
11:23 We need to prepare ourselves in terms of catering to that market because five years from now
11:28 We will be mostly catering the Gen Z's. These are the complicated
11:32 market that we need that
11:35 Because the millennials as they said are actually the
11:39 They accumulate a lot of things but they are not very concerned in terms of the generational shift
11:45 There is a generational shift actually. Interesting. Well, you know, it's such an interesting topic
11:50 But that's the time that we have for for this program. I want to thank you for
11:55 For taking time for this, but before we go maybe you'd like to leave our audience with a message ladies first
12:02 Would you like to say something to our audience before we go?
12:06 Well first we would like to thank you for inviting us
12:11 At least we have a another platform to really communicate our advocacies in the Philippine Marketing Association
12:17 And then at the same time we would like to anchor everybody to become more sustainable
12:21 Not only by talking it's not only about talking about it. Let's all take action. Sure and thank you. Ryan
12:29 First of all, yes
