  • last year
Sadiq Khan says the “Jewish community are frightened” following an attack on a kosher restaurant in north London, amid the Israel-Hamas conflict. The Mayor of London said there will be a higher police presence in the capital’s Jewish communities in response to the attack in Golders Green, and added: “There is no place in our city for hate crime.” Report by Jonesia. 00:00 I've been in contact with the police on a regular basis this morning.
00:03 I've also spent this morning in a synagogue in Liverpool.
00:07 The Jewish community are frightened.
00:09 Of course, we condemn the actions of Hamas in Israel,
00:12 but those ripples of fear have been felt in London.
00:15 So I want to reassure our Jewish community
00:18 there's going to be higher police presence in their communities.
00:21 My message to anybody involved in criminality is you'll be caught,
00:25 you'll be prosecuted,
00:27 and you'll have the full force of the weight of the law on you.
00:32 It's also important we understand if you're a Jewish Londoner
00:35 and you see a Jewish business damaged this way,
00:39 glasses being smashed,
00:41 it brings back the trauma of what your forefathers went through in the 1930s.
00:47 And it's really important we recognise there is no place in our city
00:49 for hate crime, dividing communities,
00:52 sowing division or inciting hatred.
