00:02 - Justin Jefferson for the Minnesota Vikings
00:07 placed on the injured reserve as well
00:09 due to a hamstring injury that sidelined him early
00:12 this past Sunday in the game against Kansas City.
00:16 J Jet now DRS set to miss the next four weeks
00:18 at bare minimum, a huge blow for a Vikings team
00:22 that is off to just a one and four start this season.
00:25 - Yeah, I don't think they were going anywhere anyway,
00:27 but I actually like this move.
00:29 They said, "Well, how could you like an injury out here?"
00:31 Well, granted, I don't necessarily like the injury,
00:33 but I understand what the Vikings are doing.
00:35 If you wanna keep Justin Jefferson
00:37 and you wanna keep him happy,
00:39 you gotta come to an agreement sooner or later,
00:41 because I think a lot of the reason why they shut him down
00:43 and just say, "Let's take it week to week.
00:44 We think he can be back maybe in two or three weeks."
00:47 They take it out of his hands
00:48 because a professional athlete wants to play.
00:51 And I always stress this with a hamstring injury.
00:53 You can't play through a hamstring injury.
00:55 It's not a bump, it's not a bruise.
00:56 It's not, "Hey, you know what?
00:57 Let me just take some Tylenol so I don't feel it
00:59 and get out there and play."
01:01 You do further damage.
01:02 It's why Cooper Cup tried to come back
01:03 before the regular season a little bit too early
01:05 to get ready, and he got sent down four weeks
01:07 because they don't want that superstar
01:09 wide receiver stressing.
01:10 Now also, it's a double-edged sword
01:12 with the Minnesota Vikings.
01:13 Justin Jefferson wants his money,
01:15 and quite frankly, the price of the brick,
01:17 as we like to say, he will be the highest paid
01:19 wide receiver in the National Football League
01:21 when that takes place.
01:22 But I love the fact that they shut him down
01:24 because you don't want the player himself going like,
01:26 "Well, hold on. If I'm trying to negotiate,
01:28 I can't negotiate from the sideline."
01:30 If they take a look at the end of the season
01:32 and say, "Hey, man, you missed four games.
01:33 Look at your statistics.
01:34 You're not the highest paid player in football,"
01:36 which would be stupid to take that approach,
01:38 but I'm just playing it out where a star player
01:40 might think in his head.
01:41 I guarantee you, they came to him and said,
01:43 "We're not even gonna ask you.
01:44 We're putting you on IR.
01:46 We're going to pay you.
01:47 We don't want you doing further damage,
01:49 and if you wanna play in five or six weeks down the road,
01:51 more than happy to do that, but hopefully,
01:53 we can certainly come to an agreement
01:55 on your future contract as well,"
01:56 'cause I think they shut him down more
01:58 for the Vikings' purpose of saying,
02:00 "Look, we want you here for 10 years
02:02 to be a dominant athlete.
02:03 We don't need you this year at one and four.
02:05 We need you next year healthy, happy,
02:07 and ready to go into our future here."
02:09 So I don't mind the move for the IR,
02:11 and I think it works for both sides
02:13 to get an agreement done as well,
02:15 figuring he's the best player on the team by a wide margin.
