00:00 Hello everyone, Zion Trammell here with Carson Wursel here with the Killer Frogs
00:03 postgame show as the TC Horned Frogs beat the BYU Cougars 44 to 11 in a big home
00:09 win and a bounce back win for sure, Carson.
00:12 So let's get right into it.
00:14 What were your thoughts on Josh Hoover and his first career start and this
00:17 offense that certainly was clicking?
00:19 Yeah, obviously Josh Hoover throwing for over 400 yards.
00:25 I mean that is the type of start that you want from a young quarterback.
00:29 I mean for a TCU team that was just struggling to kind of find a rhythm on
00:35 offense with dropped passes, mental mistakes.
00:38 I mean, this is the kind of start from Josh Hoover to kind of elevate a TCU
00:44 football season that we thought was going to kind of end up in ruin for lack
00:49 of a better term.
00:50 Yeah, it was certainly a game where I felt like TCU had to have it and
00:56 certainly I think the offense looked completely different with Josh Hoover.
00:59 He looked pretty composed there in the pocket.
01:01 He made some great reads.
01:03 I mean his decisiveness was on point.
01:05 His footwork looked good and overall, I mean you couldn't have asked for a much
01:09 better performance.
01:10 So now kind of talking a little bit about JP Richardson.
01:14 He had a big 100-yard game.
01:15 What did you see from him?
01:16 Did you see a different connection with him and Josh Hoover compared to the rest?
01:20 I mean like Coach Sonny Dyke said, I mean JP is one of those guys that goes
01:26 100% in practice and is going to give you everything that he's got in game.
01:31 And I mean, he just showed it today.
01:34 And he also said in the postgame interview, like we saw, that he is
01:38 finally feeling 100% which I think for a very young quarterback, I think having
01:45 a guy that you can rely on to kind of bail you out of tough situations, tough
01:49 looks for a defense.
01:51 I mean, that's absolutely huge for Kendall Bryles' offense.
01:56 And also worth noting that for Hoover, it was the most touchdown passes by a TCU
02:01 quarterback in their first career start since 2011.
02:04 So pretty noteworthy right there as well.
02:08 And moving on to the defense a little bit though, they only allowed 11 points
02:12 really from the jump.
02:13 Just dominated BYU's offense with a pick six from Miller Bradford.
02:17 I mean, what was working here for the defense?
02:20 I mean, this was truly a remarkable performance from them.
02:25 Well, I mean, this is kind of the defense that TC was expected to have at the
02:31 beginning of the season.
02:32 Like it was supposed to be a defense that could pin their ears back and go after a
02:37 quarterback and make him get rid of the ball quickly.
02:40 I think BYU's quarterback had, I think it was seven or eight times where he had to
02:46 throw outside of the pocket and just throw it away.
02:49 I mean, that loss of down and just no gain of yardage right there allows the defense
02:56 to really get after a quarterback and really just, I mean, play with no regrets.
03:02 That kind of.
03:04 Yeah, just seeing where TCU came from week one against Colorado where they
03:09 surrendered 45 points to today's performance, they sure have come a long way.
03:14 And you could feel the energy and the confidence exuding off this TCU defense.
03:19 And now looking ahead here, this is obviously a massive win.
03:24 TCU now improves to four and three and that bowl game looks a little more hopeful now.
03:30 And there is that possibility.
03:31 What does a win like this kind of mean for TCU and that locker room and the
03:36 confidence they now have moving forward?
03:40 I mean, Coach Sonny Dykes said in the post-game press conference that that win
03:45 right there is huge for confidence in this team.
03:49 Seemed like they were lacking that in the last two games, especially in the Iowa State
03:53 game where things looked very bleak.
03:57 But kind of heading into these tougher games, K-State, Texas, right off the bat here,
04:04 K-State is still a good football team.
04:06 They are.
04:06 I mean, they've had some tough losses, but I mean, Will Howard can still sling it.
04:10 So this is going to be a huge test for not only Josh Hoover, but a TCU defense that has
04:18 yet to kind of be consistent week to week.
04:21 So I think the defense will be one thing to look at, but I'm more focused on Josh
04:26 Hoover and how he responds to a better defense than BYU's in Kansas State.
04:33 Yeah, well, this certainly means a lot for Josh Hoover.
04:36 And now you get a really good idea of what this TCU team can expect moving forward
04:42 because he is likely going to be the guy at the helm for what could potentially be the
04:47 remaining of the season.
04:49 And you've got some really tough matchups here.
04:52 So I think you have to feel good moving forward, and we'll see what happens next week
04:57 against Kansas State.
04:58 But certainly high hopes here at Amon G. Carter Stadium as the TCU Horned Frogs win
05:04 it 44 to 11.
05:06 They go to 4 and 3 on the season.
05:09 And once again, they'll travel to Manhattan next Saturday to take on the Kansas State
05:13 Wildcats.
05:14 For Carson Wursel, I'm Zion Trammell.
05:16 This has been the Killer Frogs postgame show.
05:19 Go Frogs.
