00:00 Wolverine now has to worry about a berserker bigger than him.
00:03 Here's a look at the new Mondo X-Men the animated series Sabretooth six scale figure.
00:08 (intro)
00:15 (unboxing)
00:40 In 2022 Magneto became the first baddie in their X-Men the animated series 1/6 scale line.
00:46 Now they're adding some extra muscle to the brotherhood of evil mutants.
00:49 Wolverine's X-Team X teammates Sabretooth was transformed into a towering arch enemy capable of hunting Logan to the ends of the earth.
00:57 Available for only one week only the timed edition includes exclusive extras like the blaster and additional portrait plus a handy muzzle to lock the hellcat down.
01:06 Wolverine better hope that his mutant healing is gonna help him if he has to deal with the likes of Sabretooth.
01:12 Before we get a closer look though at the brand new Mondo the X-Men the animated series Sabretooth,
01:17 I'd like to thank the folks over at Mondo that were kind enough to provide this sample we could have a look at.
01:22 This is as well going to be the timed edition which has sadly already sold out on their site for $240.
01:28 Good news though if you don't mind some of the additional extra goodies that come along with the timed edition,
01:32 you can still pre-order the regular edition Sabretooth at their website for $225.
01:38 I'll put the link down below in the video description.
01:40 If we include though his furry color Sabretooth's a big boy.
01:43 You're looking though at the figure being about 12 and a half inches in height.
01:46 I swear it's right there or you can see that the figure is going to be about 32 centimeters tall.
01:51 Speaking already about Wolverine here's what Wolverine looks like with Sabretooth and in this case if you count the top of his head,
01:58 it only goes and clears the shoulder section of Sabretooth.
02:01 So yeah Sabretooth as you would be in the cartoon as well is quite a lot larger than Wolverine.
02:06 Also as well speaking of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, if we're going to of course have Sabretooth featured here in this review,
02:11 we did want to of course bring in the leader.
02:13 Here's what the figure looks like with Magneto.
02:15 Generally is the case and no different here for Sabretooth that the figure comes included with a display stand.
02:20 This time around though the stand is circular.
02:22 In the times before when we looked at some of the Mondo pieces they have tend to include like M-shaped display stands,
02:28 which I've always really said like I thought the stands were way too small.
02:31 If anything just give us a regular circular stand.
02:33 It gives us a much more bigger footprint space for the figure to stand on top of.
02:37 There's nothing on the bottom.
02:38 There's nothing on the top but along the top there's actually an adjustable neck that can open and close.
02:43 The thing about it though is if you're looking at the waist width of just the clip alone and then you're looking at say like Sabretooth,
02:49 there's no real way that this is going to ever really fit around his waist.
02:52 What you could do I suppose instead is clip this around his thigh and that's one way of standing the figure.
02:58 At least that the figure is not then going to fall over.
03:00 The only thing I am a little bit though worried about by even just doing that is the fact that these are really well handled painted pieces.
03:06 I'd hate to really have any of the paint start to scratch on the like the thigh for example.
03:10 Even though there are, as I carefully really remove the leg, even though there are these little rubber cut caps on the ends of these,
03:18 the whole idea in mind is that this is not supposed to be scratching any of the painted surfaces.
03:22 Still though I would worry that this would be rubbing against Sabretooth's legs and eventually cause some paint chippage,
03:28 which with how good the guy has been painted, I hate to think that any of it would end up falling off.
03:33 Being that we are looking at the timed edition Sabretooth, what we'll do first is we'll look at the exclusive accessories.
03:39 There's only three of them that come specifically with this version of Sabretooth.
03:42 And if you are planning to pick up this one for yourself, you can then decide for yourself whether it's really worth to try to track down the timed edition for the following three items.
03:50 If not, all the things that are on this side of the figure's body will all be released with the standard release, which is currently again on pre-order over on their site.
03:57 The first of the exclusive items the figure comes included with the blaster.
04:01 I'm sure never will cross my mind the idea of actually displaying the figure with the blaster and while those still being show accurate,
04:07 I don't really ever picture Sabretooth necessarily to be one that's wielding a blaster.
04:12 It's been though still well cast, well painted. You can see kind of more in a darker gold, some additional greens that's added in there as well.
04:19 And the part that I'm sure that goes pew pew pew is painted nicely here in yellow as well.
04:23 From looking at it from the top, it actually kind of looks more like a boat than it does a blaster.
04:27 He doesn't have necessarily hands suitable for holding this as there are no unique hands necessarily to get packed along with the timed edition.
04:34 You get so sort of the closest thing. I mean, you get a couple of gripping hands, but if you try, for example, to try to have him holding the blaster,
04:41 he sort of more just cups it than he actually has a finger that's lined up with the trigger.
04:46 I mean, it holds OK. And again, if you want to have the figure display with the blaster, there's always this option available.
04:51 He has though this hand for this side and he has a similar gripping hand than for this side of the figure's body as well.
04:57 The figure also comes in clear with an unmasked portrait, giving us a real chance to see the sculpting and the work that behind the scenes,
05:03 the talented artist that Mondo put into these pieces. The head sculpt, of course, is uncowled.
05:08 So it gives you a chance to kind of see not only long locks of blonde, but the additional mutton chops on the sides of his face as well.
05:14 The additional black panel lining that they've added, it really does break this, really make this guy feel like he's actually pulled from the screens of the cartoon.
05:22 Flip this around on the back. There's enough clearance space on the back. So, of course, when you are putting this on the figure's body,
05:28 if you are worried about, for example, the fur collar that he has, don't really have to worry that it's going to fit and accommodate properly.
05:34 Just to show you what I mean, though, we're going to take and remove the hand, the head. That's actually one of the two standard heads.
05:40 We're going to just pop in then the unhelmeted or uncowled head. So you can see there's a lot more clearance there on the back.
05:46 There still is enough clearance as well to allow the head to move back and forth. And you also can move it still up and down.
05:52 I was really worried, really, with the longer hair head sculpt that it wasn't going to be able to make any clearance just because, again,
05:58 there's a lot more hair to contend with. You can see there's enough space really afforded between the back of the head and where then the fur piece collar is,
06:05 that he has more than enough means to still rotate his head all the way around. I mean, not all the way around.
06:10 I mean, I guess you could rotate it to about there and then you'll see like the hair starts like a rub up against itself.
06:16 While he is sporting this version of his head sculpt, the figure also as well comes included with a muzzle.
06:21 Now, this muzzle doesn't really belong with this head sculpt. It's just impossible to be able to get that over top of his longer blonde locks.
06:28 But what he can do, though, this is, by the way, a softer plastic, very well sculpted as well. We saw a couple of episodes.
06:34 I think we saw one episode that I remember at least that he has the muzzle on his face.
06:38 What you can, though, do is you can take any one of the other head sculpts for Sabertooth, just though be careful.
06:43 Because, of course, when you are putting over top of his face, you really don't want to really be rubbing this too frequently for the risk, again,
06:48 that you can be shaving off some of the paint. But this just fits over top of his face.
06:52 It's like just kind of like that. And really like the sides of his face is the really the thing that kind of keeps the muzzle in bay.
06:58 So it's not going to be falling off, for example. If, again, you've wanted to have Sabertooth displayed with that, I think it's a nice look for it.
07:05 But it's not probably going to be what I'm going to be displaying the figure with. So just again, based on that, you can decide for yourself if it's worth to get the timed edition,
07:11 try to track one down again in the aftermarket place like eBay, for example, and pay like the ridiculous prices.
07:17 I'm sure that people who have had the chance to pick up the time edition probably are selling it for.
07:21 Rather, instead, let's look and focus our attentions on all the things that are kind of come with the standard release.
07:26 Now, we already have looked at this head sculpt. And for some matter, we actually have looked at this head sculpt, I believe, as well.
07:32 When you look at the muzzle, but he comes with two regular portraits. One is a smiling one.
07:37 One is kind of more of a ferocious Sabertooth. You can choose for yourself which one you prefer in both the cases.
07:42 So I think the paint is fantastically handled. Again, you got that panel lining around the front of his face where the cheek areas are just below the chin.
07:49 And again, for as small as the teeth may be very meticulously painted. The top of the head is actually very similar.
07:55 I mean, if you were just to look and cover the mouth, for example, and muzzle him yourself, you can see like the top of the head is actually not that much different.
08:01 From one another, the hair seems to be sculpted the same with some additional darker yellow almost added onto the top of there as well.
08:08 I really, again, like both head sculpts. I think when it comes to probably design to display him, I think I'm going to be leaning, I think, more to the direction of having him with the smiling face myself.
08:17 I just really like the look of that one. Of course, to change the heads out, we can go back to the one that's the exclusive.
08:23 Just pop that very easily off the ball joint and then replace with that.
08:27 One thing I will say, though, about all the ball joints for these figures is that they're super user friendly.
08:32 Changing out the heads, you would think that a ball joint being as big as it is, we'd be very hard to kind of remove hands and remove then the head.
08:38 Not a problem at all. Very, very easy to do.
08:41 Now, the also the figure as well comes include, like I said, a whole bunch of accessories.
08:45 Like, so where do we start really? Well, first of all, I guess the figure comes included with a couple of clothes.
08:50 These are good, I'm sure, for punching around Wolverine, really, if you wanted to.
08:54 All of them have, again, very meticulously being painted.
08:57 So you can see, like, some additional dark blacks been added in there as well.
09:00 And even like the knuckles and the creases in between the fingers have been painted there as well.
09:05 Again, if you want the closed fist, they're available there for you.
09:08 The figure comes also include with a series of other gripping hands.
09:11 Now, I have maybe already swapped out one of the hands, which would have been then the mirror flip to this one.
09:15 And there's also this one as well that has a slightly more angled finger. You can see right there as well.
09:20 Preferring, I think, of all the three, at least of all the hands that we have here, I really like the more mauling hands myself.
09:27 These ones have not only the visible now fingernails, but again, I really like the way that these ones are kind of spread out like this.
09:33 Like, you just want to grab on the Wolverine and rip him to shreds.
09:36 Slightly varied for, of course, the ones that he already has in his hands, where these ones are getting a little bit more close together.
09:41 These ones, again, much more fanned out to do a lot more devastating damage.
09:45 Now, he has those hands, but he also has these hands as well.
09:48 You can see the only difference really between the two is that while these four fingers are slightly more closer together,
09:53 these ones are more fanned across. So you get a little bit more of a dynamic pose with those.
09:58 Now, if you did want to change out the hands, for example, just as easy as was to change out the head, just remove the hands.
10:04 And when you are removing the hands, you want to make sure the peg goes along with it.
10:07 All of the hands, thank goodness, are all dedicated with their own respected pegs.
10:11 So it's very easy to change out the hands.
10:13 You don't have to worry necessarily of pegs being left behind.
10:15 As long as the pegs are going with the hands, just again, swap them out. Very easy to do.
10:19 So he has one grabbing hand there. I don't know if we... I guess we'll leave the other one for right now,
10:23 because there are, again, a couple of other accessories I did want to tackle.
10:26 The figure comes included with quite a large stack of explosives.
10:31 I don't know what damage that would be doing, but it certainly would be doing a lot of damage.
10:35 The explosives, as you can see, has been stacked by three.
10:38 Actually, you probably have the dynamite on the top, some polyplastic, maybe plastic explosives in the middle there,
10:45 and then a detonator on the end.
10:46 I mean, there's really a lot of destructive firepower happening here.
10:49 And it is something that he could technically carry around with him that I had done at the beginning of this video.
10:54 With the hand being a little bit open like this, you can actually take the explosive and sort of wedge that in his hand.
10:59 The only thing about it, though, is there's a lot of substantial plastic weightage happening here.
11:04 So, of course, it's going to add weight then to whatever joint you're going to have the arm holding this with.
11:08 Probably a better idea just to have it displayed maybe next to his leg, for example.
11:12 To go, though, along with the explosive, he also does come included with the detonator.
11:16 The detonator has been nicely cast here in dark gray plastic.
11:18 Some additional paint's been afforded here to the buttons.
11:21 And, again, you've got a couple of levers there also on the side as well.
11:24 Now, he has already a gripping hand in his hand, which I just happened to have used at the beginning of this video
11:28 when he was first on the turntable.
11:30 Easily as fine to hold the detonator as it is right now.
11:33 The last of the accessories involves me picking up this severed head.
11:37 The figure also comes included with Talos's head.
11:39 Talos, of course, was a character from the cartoon series.
11:42 And while this isn't necessarily something you're going to be attaching onto the socket for Sabretooth,
11:46 it is something that you can have displayed along with the figure as well.
11:49 Lightly done here in gray, darker gray down below here.
11:52 Some additional red's been also added here to the eyes.
11:54 A really nice head sculpt for Talos.
11:57 So that's all the accessories, again, that come packaged along with Sabretooth.
12:01 And, again, you can decide for yourself.
12:03 Personally, for me, like, being the fact that I probably won't see myself displaying the figure with the blaster
12:08 and not likely seeing myself going to be displaying the figure with the longer hair,
12:12 I think really the thing that I'm the most interested in when it comes to the timed edition is probably going to be the muzzle.
12:17 And, again, I really like the fact that they would have included that.
12:19 Now, on to the figure's... well, not on to the figure's accessories,
12:23 because we've already had a look at the figure's accessories.
12:25 We're going to kind of move all the things that come packed along with Sabretooth just off to the side here,
12:29 to free up enough of necessary space to have a closer look at the figure.
12:32 Not only being big and towering, the figure's been well-painted as well.
12:36 Now, with the original X-Men the animated series, mostly cast by Canadian voice actors,
12:41 Sabretooth, in fact, was actually voiced by Donald Franks.
12:45 If memory serves some of you as to the name Donald Franks,
12:48 actually, Don Franks was also the one that was chief newbie in the original My Bloody Valentine.
12:53 Everybody remember My Bloody Valentine.
12:55 He had actually also gone on...
12:57 Don Franks is also one of those characters, voice actors at least, that you can recognize right away.
13:01 He's done things like Swamp Thing.
13:03 He's done in the original animated series of Beetlejuice.
13:06 He's done a whole bunch of things.
13:07 It's one of those things where as soon as you hear the actor, you know...
13:10 you recognize right away who he is.
13:12 Picking, though, up Sabretooth and getting a closer look now at him.
13:15 A lot of substantial plastic, obviously, is at play here.
13:18 Just, again, like there's a lot of large plastic.
13:20 Nothing is hollow at all here for Sabretooth.
13:23 The head sculpt I'm preferring of the three is the smiling face.
13:26 I think it just fits the profile better, I think, for Sabretooth.
13:29 Again, like the color is so nicely handled here.
13:31 You got the little tufts of fur sticking out the sides of his cowl piece.
13:34 Not to mention the additional yellow that he has there on the top of his head.
13:37 It's a really well sculpted head sculpt.
13:39 I would say it's one of the best that they've done so far from Mondo,
13:42 but consistently all of these X-Men animated series,
13:45 even the Jubilee that I didn't bring in for this review,
13:47 have all, again, been really well sculpted and well painted.
13:51 Of course, he does have the very high collar there on the back,
13:53 which, of course, obviously contributes a lot of the weight for him being top heavy.
13:58 The plastic, again, is not hollow at all.
14:00 Sculpted, again, you can see all the additional fibers and fur pieces that he has here.
14:04 Again, you got some additional darker yellow kind of happening at the bottom of it,
14:08 while primarily being kind of more of a lighter yellow at the top
14:11 with some additional accent colors at the darker inside there as well.
14:14 Primarily, his body is mostly consisting of brown here in the front,
14:17 a more kind of off orange on the sides here,
14:20 which carries over as well to his arms.
14:22 Everywhere you see there seems to be musculature.
14:25 He's also been given as well some additional black panel lining,
14:28 so you can really see, again, all the attention to detail have been given to this figure.
14:32 The only thing I will say, though, when you're looking at Sabretooth,
14:35 is while there's no real issues necessarily with the knees,
14:37 when you're looking at his elbows, for example, the colors aren't quite 100%.
14:41 So if you're looking at, like, his bicep and shoulder and his forearm below that,
14:45 in between the two, there seems to be a lighter color of this color right here,
14:48 a slightly lighter shade.
14:50 It does stand out just a little bit.
14:52 I wish they could have made it a little bit darker to match the colors on either side of it.
14:56 It's the only thing I would really say is the thing that stands out on Sabretooth.
14:59 And even then, to say it stands out is not necessarily even in a bad way.
15:02 I mean, really, from far enough away, you don't even really notice the fact that the joints are a different color.
15:06 But lower down below, you can see, like, all this striping that he has on his legs.
15:10 Again, you've got all this nice little panel lining,
15:12 and not only just panel lining alone, but they also give it as well a darker wash.
15:16 So there's a few little areas you can see that accent the sections of his muscles.
15:20 They get that nice little darker coloring.
15:22 It's a little like the coloring of this, just kind of one shade darker,
15:25 just enough to bring a little bit of contrast and color.
15:27 There's just as much detail on the back of the figure's body as there is to the front.
15:31 And again, it's just a really, really nice, well-sculpted figure.
15:34 He's big, though. He's quite large, though.
15:36 And along with that, even though he's big in size,
15:38 he still encapsulates, still maintains all the same posability points as before.
15:43 So, like, with Wolverine, all the articulation would be carried over here to Sabretooth,
15:47 so his head rotates all the way around.
15:49 The head can look up and look down, actually quite far down, too.
15:53 You can also move the head back and forth as well.
15:55 As for the arms, the arms do rotate.
15:57 Now, the only thing about it, though, is you can't do a full rotation.
16:00 You could kind of bring the arms out just a little bit if you wanted to get the full rotation.
16:05 But as they get closer to the body, obviously, they're going to start to rub against the fur color,
16:09 and you really don't want to start to, again, scratch any of that paint.
16:12 The paint's too good to start to scratch these.
16:14 Now, while he doesn't have bicep swivels at all, the figure has at least a swivel here in his elbow.
16:19 Now, again, that's that same point that we looked at before.
16:22 That same joint also allows the form to rotate, or, again, bend back and forth.
16:27 He has no articulation here for the glove, but he has at least rotation here for the hands.
16:31 They rotate all the way around, and hinging back and forth.
16:33 Just before we actually get down to looking at the rest of the figure's posability,
16:36 I did also want to draw your attention to, like in the cartoon,
16:39 Sabretooth also has these large spikes that stick out the tops of his gloves.
16:42 He also has it here as well.
16:44 Don't worry, though, if you're worried that these are going to be breaking.
16:46 They're actually using a softer plastic, so you really don't have as much to worry about.
16:50 If anything, your biggest worry is probably going to be the fact that you're going to be poking yourself
16:53 when you're trying to bend the figure's arms, but at least these are a softer plastic.
16:56 The upper torso on Sabretooth, once again, like Wolverine, is on a ball joint,
17:00 so you can rotate it all the way around.
17:02 And the figure has the same thing carried again when we look at the abdomen area.
17:06 That can rotate also all the way around.
17:08 The figure's legs do split.
17:10 Very hard to actually split the legs when you get a figure this big,
17:13 but you can also take as well the legs and move them forward, only to about that far.
17:16 You can also take the legs and move them back.
17:18 Now, when you move them back, you're only going to get to a point right here,
17:21 and they're going to stop right, obviously, when they're hitting Sabretooth's back behind.
17:24 He has a mild swivel at the top of the thigh.
17:26 The figure does possess a double hinge on the knee.
17:28 Nice, tight knee joints also on this figure.
17:30 Yes, there are the hinge joints right there, but if you bring the knees and have them completely straight,
17:35 the off-coloring that they have in the knees isn't going to be standing out as much as the off-coloring for the elbows.
17:40 And then finally, for his feet, they move back and forth, or I should say back and forth this way,
17:44 and you can rock them back and forth as well this way.
17:47 It's a good thing, really, that Mondo incorporates the side ankle tilt
17:51 to ensure that the figure's going to have flat footing when you put him on the shelf.
17:54 Speaking of putting him on the shelf, I know exactly how I'm going to have the figure displayed.
17:58 I'm going to have him displayed with Wolverine.
18:00 Wolverine maybe on one side, or maybe what I might just end up doing,
18:03 as I'm sure they're probably going to be continuing on the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.
18:06 I'm sure I'm probably going to have Wolverine and maybe the rest of the X-Men all grouped together on one side,
18:11 and Sabretooth and Magneto, so far at least, joining together on the shelf.
18:16 He's a bigger figure, yes. If you can afford the space, sure.
18:19 It's definitely worth picking up, though.
18:21 Now again, whether you decide for yourself if you want to get yourself the timed edition,
18:25 which again, the timed edition only includes the alternate head sculpt, which is without the cowl piece.
18:30 He also includes, again, that mask muzzle piece, and he also comes included with the blaster.
18:35 I feel like this time around, it's not necessarily worth picking up, or if you don't get the chance.
18:40 If you're able to find him, for example, and you get the timed edition at the price that he was initially going for a model,
18:46 I still think it's well worth picking up.
18:48 If, though, you have to start sourcing around him on eBay, for example,
18:51 and you're paying some additional pricing to try to track down the timed edition,
18:55 really ask yourself this.
18:56 If you're planning to display him with any one of these accessories, then yes, go the route of getting the timed edition.
19:01 But if you see yourself as only getting the timed edition just to have those extra accessories
19:04 that are only eventually going to go back in the box anyways,
19:07 I'd just say save yourself the hassle. Save yourself the time. Save yourself the budget.
19:11 And rather get instead the standard edition, which again, is currently available over as a pre-order right now,
19:16 right now, over on Mondo's website.
19:18 As we wrap up things for Sabretooth, and he rotates on the rotisserie,
19:22 I did also want to draw your attention once again to the fact that this was the timed edition.
19:26 At one point, it was selling over on Mondo's site for $240.
19:29 It has those since sold out, but they still have the pre-order listing for the regular release of Sabretooth.
19:35 That's not going to include this alternate head sculpt.
19:37 That's not going to include the blaster.
19:38 And as I already mentioned in the review, it's not also going to come included with the muzzle,
19:41 but it's going for $225.
19:43 So that's about like a difference of $15.
19:45 Timed edition was $240. Standard release is $225.
19:48 I mean, again, like for $15, I would still have picked up the timed edition if he was available,
19:53 but being that he's not available, I think honestly, if you're not planning to display the figure with any of those three things,
19:58 it's better just to pass and get the pre-order while the pre-order is still available.
20:02 The thing about these Mondo releases is they always skyrocket in price afterwards.
20:06 Don't be the person that says, "Oh, I wish I could have grabbed the Sabretooth while he was available on his site,"
20:11 because rest assured, I'm sure he's going to be starting popping up on eBay for well into $400.
20:16 Always these things with the Mondo releases always skyrocket in prices,
20:19 but I think it's really well worth it if you find the chance to get your hands on Sabretooth.
20:24 Boy, he looks fantastic on the shelf.
20:26 The shelf, unfortunately, though, may have to use up a little bit more real estate space,
20:30 but I think it's well worth the sacrifice if you're going to be getting a Sabretooth that looks this good.
20:35 I mean, ultimately, though, I just decided to use the figure's alternate head sculpt for the timed edition for final looks,
20:40 but I will be, though, beelining it back, I think, to the smiling face of Sabretooth
20:44 when this guy's going to get displayed on my shelf.
20:46 Once again, a big thank you to the folks over at Mondo that did provide the sample of the X-Men The Animated Series
20:51 timed edition Sabretooth that we had the chance to have a look at this review.
20:54 Have you guys had the chance to order the timed edition,
20:57 or are you guys planning to get the pre-order on the standard release?
21:00 Let me know what you guys think of the figure down below in the comments section.
21:02 Also, as well, if you guys enjoyed this video, I want to hit it with a like.
21:04 If you guys are loving the content you guys are seeing, and you certainly would like to stick around for Mondo,
21:09 just know, though, that we will be looking at some more Mondo releases in the upcoming videos,
21:13 so if that's the kind of thing you'd like to come back to this channel for,
21:15 make sure you're coming back on a regular basis.
21:17 Popping up also, if you have a little bit of time on your hands, at the end of this video,
21:21 will be a playlist of other things I've looked at from Mondo in the past.
21:24 That includes, of course, the X-Men The Animated Series, that includes Batman The Animated Series,
21:28 that as well comes, that also as well is the He-Man stuff, and we also looked at Rick and Morty.
21:32 Lots of Mondo stuff to wet your whistle with, so again, if you have a little bit of time,
21:36 check out that playlist that should be popping up almost right about now.
21:39 As always, guys, thanks for watching. See you guys next time.
