00:00Skeletor may have given her a life of villainy, but it was Shymer that gave her a life in cartoons.
00:05Here's your look at the Mattel He-Man and the Master Universe cartoon collection, Evil Lynne, Evil Warrior Goddess.
00:24It's an exciting time to be a Master Universe fan.
00:27For long-time fans and a new generation of kids who love the action and adventure,
00:30it's time to experience the thrilling action and adventure of He-Man, Skeletor,
00:34The Secrets of Castle Grayskull, and much more.
00:36The figures in this collection stand 5.5 inches tall and have 16 movable joints,
00:41so they're highly poseable for imaginative and action-oriented fun.
00:44Just so you know, she wasn't always Evil Lynne. She used to go by Evelyn.
00:48Just before we get a closer look, though, at the Evil Lynne from the cartoon collection,
00:52the tape measure first is going to tell us that the figure stands 5 and a quarter inches in height.
00:56Or the Evil Sorceress stands 13 and a half centimeters tall.
01:00Scaling in proper size always seems to be an issue when it comes to the female figures from the cartoon collection.
01:05Just for an example, showing you what she looks like next to her boss, Skeletor.
01:09In the cartoon, obviously it does fluctuate sometimes,
01:12but generally Evil Lynne goes to at least, at the very least, his sockets of his eyes.
01:17Not the case at all.
01:18Here's what the figure as well looks like, though, with Merman, bringing in his well-trapped jaw.
01:22Bringing in all, at least, the bad guys.
01:23Here's what she also looks like as well with Beastman.
01:26From this side, at least, she is also obviously using the exact same body with Teal,
01:30and that right away is already a big no-no.
01:33I mean, the fact that the figures are, just by way, as well, bringing the other Evil Lynnes,
01:37the off-yellow, jaundiced-looking Evil Lynne, and then the darker, more paler colors of the 2000X series,
01:43you can't, I feel, use the same bodies as you're using for the Origins figures.
01:47Like what they did with the male figures,
01:49it looks like the female figures should have had a stock body designed and created
01:53specifically for the Cartoon Collection line.
01:55In case you're interested at all, the figure does come in clear with a little sheet
01:58that shows you, once again, that you can swap around the parts.
02:00Good as customizers' dreams, you can easily make your figures the way that you want,
02:04but I just feel, again, like it's a waste of paper just to show you that you can remove the arms,
02:07you can remove the head, you can remove the lower torso, the boots...
02:11We're just gonna discard that right away.
02:12What we won't, though, discard is the fact that she comes in clear with a mini-comic,
02:15this one entitled The Shape of Vengeance.
02:18One of the notable characters featured also on the front happens to be Webster,
02:21not the one that had Ma'am and Mr. Papadopoulos.
02:24That's Webster.
02:26On the back, though, other promotional images does show Webster.
02:28It does also show Clawful and Spikor,
02:31two of the other characters that we're getting from the Cartoon Collection that haven't yet been released.
02:35We flip through to the comics.
02:37I like always the artwork that they do inside.
02:39Notably, though, with the Cartoon Collection,
02:42the artwork does seem a little bit more like the Filmation style.
02:45There's Evil Lynn off to the side,
02:46which, again, you can't quite really see and gauge the proper height to her,
02:49but she's also ducking down.
02:51She also happens to have her cape,
02:53which is one thing, unfortunately, that was omitted altogether when it comes to this figure release.
02:56We'll talk more about that more in a moment.
02:58He-Man with Battle Cat, Teela,
03:00Orko flying off to the side next to Man-at-Arms,
03:02and there's, again, Evil Lynn off to the side.
03:04Nice-looking comic.
03:05That looks almost like something you'd see from Silence of the Lambs.
03:08Skeletor turns into some big, giant moth.
03:11Anyways, let's move that off to the side.
03:13Getting a closer look at the accessories that the figure comes included with,
03:16the cape not being one of them,
03:17she does come at least with the Shaping Staff.
03:20I believe taken from the Shaping Staff,
03:21the actual episode named Shaping Staff.
03:24This is something, of course, that she can wield in either one of her hands.
03:28Luckily, she does have two gripping hands,
03:29so not only does she have the Shaping Staff to hold,
03:31but she also comes included with her trademark scepter.
03:35I like the look of the scepter.
03:36Probably not going to end up displaying her, I feel, with the Shaping Staff,
03:38although I do like the look that they've molded this here
03:40in a very nice, almost Werther's original style of gold plastic.
03:45Yes.
03:46You can go ahead and put that, obviously, in her hand.
03:49Even though the handles of the Shaping Staff,
03:52and, for that matter, the scepter, do seem large,
03:55they fit fine enough, actually, in her hands.
03:57The coloring, also, for Evelyn is sort of, again, that off-yellowish color,
04:01but not to the extent of the original vintage toy,
04:03and nowhere near, of course, what we're getting here with the Origins.
04:07I'll bring those figures in more in a moment.
04:09Once again, though, looking at the actual scepter that she has,
04:11nice paint that they've added to the top orb there, all in black,
04:14while the majority of it is kind of very much a Skeletor or Evelyn kind of purple.
04:19And, again, that can also fit into her hands.
04:21The only thing, unfortunately, about this is that the characters don't have...
04:24I wish, kind of, that they could have had swappable hands.
04:26I mean, I don't expect them to throw all these extra things
04:29and the kitchen sink at these figures,
04:31but if they had extra hands that could pivot also the opposite way around,
04:34you could have had the figure, actually...
04:36I always, kind of, really want to have her displayed
04:38where it looks like she's holding the scepter and pointing it towards,
04:40and you can't quite pull that off.
04:42The biggest thing, though, unfortunately, for this figure
04:45is the fact that she is left behind with no cape whatsoever.
04:48She has the collar piece, at least, for that,
04:50but a lot of times we do see Evelyn in the cartoon with a cape,
04:53and they've left that off altogether.
04:55Of course, she is also, after all, using the same body mold as Teela.
04:59The thing, though, that's different about the two figures
05:02is that while we had looked at Teela before...
05:04Let's just put Evelyn down here for a second.
05:06Teela essentially was a brand-new body
05:08where they put an overlaid piece of plastic over it.
05:10It's basically a way for them to get away with using the same body,
05:14and then just making the new torso pieces accordingly
05:16so that you, of course, could have yourselves
05:18whatever figure you want to end up using.
05:20This was, again, perfect for customizers,
05:22because if you strip this all down,
05:23underneath that is just a basic bare body
05:25that you can then use for customizing and making in other figures.
05:28With Evelyn, though, what she's actually getting instead...
05:32I'm going to bring in the one that we got here from the...
05:35from the Filmation, from the Origins line.
05:37You can see, though, looking at the two,
05:39the arms are exactly the same.
05:41Well, you know, to some extent.
05:43Obviously, there's been some tooling between the two.
05:45The legs are very much similarly shared in the mold.
05:48The thing that's a little bit different, though, is the torso.
05:50They would have had to devise a brand-new torso piece
05:52because this one isn't quite matching to the one
05:54that she would have had in the cartoon.
05:56This one is a little bit, obviously, a little bit wider.
05:59She does seem to have a little bit more fuller of a chest piece as well.
06:04The collar is a little bit higher.
06:05The collars, of course, are a little bit more closer to the cartoon.
06:08Head sculpt is pretty good.
06:10I don't think it's as good, necessarily, as Teela.
06:12Teela set the bar, I feel, pretty high.
06:14That really, to look at the two,
06:16it almost feels like they're from completely different paint companies.
06:19I'm not saying it necessarily for the fact that they...
06:21Like, if you're looking at the plastic,
06:23clearly Evelyn always would have had a more yellowish skin tone.
06:26But, like, the face is so much nicer here on Teela.
06:29I feel it lets a little bit down when we get to actually Evelyn.
06:32The actual box packaging does depict Evelyn a much better-looking head sculpt
06:37than what we're actually getting produced from the factory.
06:39Something that's also notable, too,
06:41is if you look at the side of her face,
06:42it actually looks like her face is a little bit more flat.
06:45She does have, of course, the tiara there on the top.
06:47It's molded fairly well.
06:49It's a lot thinner than I was expecting.
06:51She does have, again, like that kind of cowl piece
06:54that basically is part of the Teela,
06:58part of the, of course, the crest that she has on top of her head.
07:00I can't even think of it now.
07:02But, you know, because of that, if you're looking at it from the side,
07:05she has a very boxy-looking head tiara.
07:07That's what I was thinking of.
07:09Very boxy, though, in the head.
07:10It's definitely not as refined, though, as Teela.
07:12Colors are good on this one.
07:13Again, like, you got the nice purples.
07:15You got the blues.
07:16The blues aren't quite 100% matching that of, like, the bodice.
07:19So if you look at the bodice and then you look at her arms,
07:21there's definitely a difference between the two.
07:23If you look at this also, too,
07:24I know I did say earlier that this is a brand-new piece.
07:27If, realistically, you were to peel this all the way...
07:29I'm not going to do that because she'd be bare-chested underneath.
07:32This is still, though, a rubber piece over top.
07:34But it is a completely, though, different rubber piece altogether
07:37than the one we got here from Teela.
07:39Same arms, though.
07:40Same bands there on the forearms, you can see, or biceps.
07:43And, again, when you look at the lower boots,
07:45they've essentially just taken Teela's body,
07:47as usually was the case with the original Vintage and the Origins line,
07:50essentially taken Teela's body and just recast it all into different colors
07:53and then had to, of course, devise a brand-new torso piece,
07:57which, again, is all soft and plastic.
07:58For the figure's articulation,
08:00Evil Lynn's going to have that of Teela's.
08:01So her head's going to rotate all the way around.
08:03It's going to look up. It's going to look down.
08:05It's going to move also back and forth as well.
08:07Arms hinge out comfortably at 90 degrees.
08:10You can take the arms and rotate them all the way around.
08:12Rotate them all the way around.
08:13Yes. Yes. There we go.
08:16There's a bend in the elbow. There's a rotation in the forearm.
08:18There's also a rotation in the hand,
08:20where you can hinge it back and forth there as well.
08:22Just a standard waist swivel.
08:24Ball joints, though, for the legs.
08:25You can take the legs and move forward. You can move them back.
08:27There's a swivel there slightly on the top of the thigh.
08:30Single hinge on the knee.
08:31Rotation in the lower leg.
08:33Rotation in the boots.
08:34Hinge back and forth on the ankle.
08:36And there, yes, is the ankle rocker.
08:38Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.
08:41I like the look of the figure,
08:42but I don't know if I think it looks as good as Teela.
08:45For the female figures,
08:46Teela, again, set the bar pretty high.
08:48Whether your feelings, though, are shared with mine,
08:50but, again, like, I just feel like the figure bodies,
08:52they had to come up with a brand-new different body.
08:55You could, yes, use a different torso piece,
08:57which, obviously, they have,
08:59but to use, then, the same length of legs
09:01and to use the same length of arms,
09:03you're resulting in getting a figure that,
09:04if you're comparing her, then, with the male bodies,
09:06and, again, keep in mind that the male bodies
09:08did have brand-new bodies made specifically,
09:11specifically for the cartoon collection,
09:13why would they have done something not similar
09:15for the female figures?
09:17I guess they probably wanted to save a little bit of cost,
09:19obviously.
09:20I mean, I guess they really have saved the cost
09:22because, again, like, the torsos between the two bodies
09:24are exactly the same.
09:25They just have added rubber torso pieces,
09:27rubber armor pieces that go over top of it.
09:29Evelyn needed to be a lot higher.
09:31She had to be at least, I would say, at least,
09:33even to, at the very least, to the nose of Skeletor.
09:35And the biggest thing, unfortunately,
09:37that's facing this figure
09:38is the fact she's missing her cape.
09:40I don't know why Mattel chose not to add
09:41and include the cape when it came to releasing Evelyn.
09:44Evelyn does come included with the shaping staff.
09:46That's good.
09:47Evelyn, though, doesn't come included with a cape.
09:49That's bad.
09:50And I'd hate to think that Mattel was looking at
09:52two things in front of them, the shaping staff
09:53and then the cape,
09:54and they had to figure out
09:55one of them had to be sacrificed
09:57in order to mold the other
09:58because we just don't have the budget to produce both.
10:00The scepter would have to have been a no-brainer.
10:02They have to include that with the figure anyways.
10:04But honestly, though,
10:05the fact that really none of these figures
10:06I ever really display
10:07with their, quote, episode-specific accessories,
10:10I would have been all more for the idea
10:12that Evelyn could have come included
10:13with her trademark black cape
10:14in favor of the shaping staff instead.
10:16Despite that, though,
10:17the figure is still suffering
10:19from one of the biggest problems
10:20that are faulting the female figures
10:21from the cartoon collection,
10:22and that's the fact that they continue
10:24to use the Origins body.
10:26The top of the torso is different, obviously,
10:28because they would have had to give her
10:30a rubber armor piece,
10:31the same similar way they've done it with Tila.
10:34But having the legs and the arms
10:35the exact same length as Origins figures
10:37results in these figures
10:38obviously coming up quite short
10:40when you're comparing them with the male figures.
10:42You know, again, like,
10:43I don't know where the logic was for this.
10:46I mean, if they look at this
10:47and they thought to themselves,
10:48okay, well,
10:49I feel like you'd have to go one or the other.
10:51Either have the male figure bodies
10:53using the exact same size as the Origins bodies,
10:56and maybe just, again,
10:57like making the armor
10:58or making at least the muscle underneath
11:00a little bit more cartoon refined, perhaps.
11:03If you're going to do that, then yes,
11:05you can easily just say that
11:06we're going to do that with the female figures as well.
11:08But the fact that they would then
11:10mold brand new bodies for the male figures
11:12and then not do the same thing for the females,
11:14it clearly looks like the females are using old molds,
11:17which essentially they are.
11:18They're using at least
11:19brand new overlay armor pieces,
11:21but the bodies underneath
11:22they're still using
11:23and still stuck in the Origins past.
