00:00 The Kenyan government has released the names and photos of 35 terrorist suspects believed
00:05 to be behind recent al-Shabaab militant attacks, especially in the coastal Lamu County.
00:10 The terrorist organisation has stepped up its attacks in Kenya in recent months, entering
00:14 the country through bony forests which border Somalia, which makes it difficult to apprehend
00:20 them.

00:27 So the majority of the suspects are Kenyan but there are also Tanzanians, Ethiopians,
00:31 Somalis as well as a Bangladeshi and a British citizen on that list.
00:37 Now they've been accused of planting improvised explosive devices in the coastal county of
00:43 Lamu and of killing civilians.
00:46 They've also been linked to the attack on an American military base in Manda Bay in
00:51 Lamu County back in 2020 which killed three American soldiers.
00:58 And now authorities have posted photos of the suspects online as well as on various
01:04 local print media outlets and they've said they will offer substantial rewards to anyone
01:09 who can provide information on the whereabouts of any of these suspects.
01:14 Now Kenya's Ministry of Interior has also said that these suspects are part of al-Shabaab.
01:22 Now the terror group has really stepped up its attacks on Kenyan soil in recent months
01:27 in the coastal and northeastern regions of the country.
01:32 Now the first attack by al-Shabaab in Kenya took place in 2011 and that's when Kenya joined
01:39 the fight against the terrorist organisation and ever since the East African country has
01:46 faced several acts of terrorism from the extremist group.
01:51 The deadliest of these attacks took place in 2015 when al-Shabaab stormed Garissa University
01:59 College killing 148 people.
