00:00 our work will warm up pretty quickly but the sun's out no wind we've kind of
00:04 entered into that time of year where it's still getting really warm during
00:07 the day like in the 80s today supposed to be 86 but it doesn't reach 86 until
00:11 about 5 o'clock tonight so it takes all day to heat up it's perfect and we're
00:16 just gonna be doing odds and ends today I need to harvest all the rest of our
00:19 onions here Aaron is gonna bring the brush hog through on the tractor and cut
00:23 down all of these giant kosher weeds I'm gonna move a water line out here and
00:28 probably get some things planted I'm gonna start another batch of marinara
00:31 sauce you guys that recipe that we made the other day is fantastic I had it like
00:37 I had enough leftover in the pot to make a plate of pasta and I tried it out that
00:41 day and it was so tasty but you never know like once you process it and you've
00:45 added the citric acid to the the mix you know to keep it fresh in the the jars I
00:51 just didn't know if it was gonna alter the flavor at all so I opened up one of
00:54 the jars that we processed and it's just every bit is fantastic so we're gonna
00:57 get more of that going it's just gonna be a day full of just stuff onions are
01:01 right here just all mixed in with the weeds we've got a bunch of walla wallas
01:05 a bunch of yellow sweet Spanish Newberg's and then look at how giant
01:10 these koshers are oh my goodness Aaron took the brush hog through yesterday I
01:15 just want to show you out here and he cut the whole pasture down minus what he
01:21 couldn't reach along the fence line so we'll come along and clean that up but
01:24 it looks so nice nice and tidy I mean the kosher was just getting out of
01:29 control anyway that's what we're hoping the rest of it to look like or at least
01:35 this little patch right here by the high tunnel and this is the water line we're
01:39 gonna be moving because currently we have just one line it originates here
01:44 comes across the front of these two rows and then this row has four lines of drip
01:49 tape that go just to the end of our corn and then it's got four rows of drip tape
01:55 that goes to the end of our peppers which I'll show you down there but then
01:59 we also have this line we teed off and it's just a solid black poly that goes
02:04 all the way down to our tomatoes and vine crops so that we could individually
02:07 water those plants once our onions are harvested we don't have anything in this
02:12 row all the way to the peppers and we still want to irrigate the peppers so
02:15 what I'm going to do is cut this line off and end it right here and then I'm
02:20 gonna follow this other line all the way down to where the peppers are and I'm
02:23 just gonna basically reattach this whole configuration so the nice thing about
02:28 this is that these we can well I need two hands hang on that was just slip off
02:34 so we don't even have to reattach these what I'm gonna do is cut it about right
02:39 here we'll put a figure eight ender so that the water stops here but it'll
02:43 still go down this one and then down the way we'll cut back into this line and
02:47 just reattach this right here and then reattach it to the drip tape that runs
02:51 by all of the peppers does that even make a little bit of sense I hope it
02:55 does let's walk down there all of these weeds right here along the way will be
02:58 cut down today but see these are the four drip lines where all the potatoes
03:01 were we don't need to water this area anymore but I still want the peppers to
03:05 be watered we still have a good month month and a half of our growing season
03:08 left now we'll get lots of productivity we currently are getting lots of
03:12 productivity off of these plants so I'll cut the drip tape right here we'll
03:16 reattach that line that I just showed you and then we'll tap into that black
03:19 poly that's somewhere right underneath the soil that way these will still be
03:23 watered all of our tomatoes will still be watered but we won't be watering
03:26 anything that doesn't need it also Pedro and his crew are here working on the
03:31 flagstone patio area again so we'll capture what they get done today we'll
03:36 take a look at it at the end just exciting I love it when there's lots of
03:39 activity going on okay so we're back here at the helm kind of where the water
03:43 originates I want to make sure where I cut it I've got enough room to get my
03:46 tea coupler in once I move the rest of this back down toward the peppers so I'm
03:50 gonna cut it about right here that gives me enough room to use my figure eight
03:55 ender let's thread that on everything's cold this morning oh there we go when it
04:03 warms up this tubing is way easier to work with cut it a little shorter
04:09 there we go perfect so now the water will be stopped here and it will just go
04:18 this way and I remove the rest of our drip tape there we go so we're gonna use
04:24 this whole thing just right at the pepper area okay found the main poly
04:29 right here I'm going to put my t-connector on the end of our drip tape
04:33 so we're going to cut in here and put our coupler you can see already put the
04:37 t-coupler in the end here so I'll attach it here cut our drip tape and then
04:41 reattach the drip tape to our connectors
04:45 (scissors cutting)
05:11 (scissors cutting)
05:26 well that was a quick five-minute fix I knew that wouldn't take very long I just
05:30 needed to get out here and get it done I pulled all the drip tape up so we could
05:33 get in here with the tractor and get all those weeds cut down and then we'll be
05:36 tilling in here again soon so here you can see where it's all coupled together
05:40 all the drip tape has been reattached and then if you follow this one you can
05:45 just see another figure eight under here so these are really short runs of drip
05:49 tape now just feeding these peppers right here and then all of those end
05:55 right where the bricks are the bricks are weighing down the drip tape and you
05:59 know the other day when we were out here harvesting these peppers I ran into a
06:02 bunch of black widows but I must have spooked them because I don't see any
06:05 more in here there they might still be there I'm really careful when I harvest
06:08 still I look everywhere I put my hands but yeah I don't know they must have
06:12 taken off okay water line moved so let's go get all the onions harvested
06:18 [Music]
06:20 [Music]
06:22 [Music]
06:25 [Music]
06:28 [Music]
06:31 [Music]
06:34 [Music]
06:37 [Music]
06:40 [Music]
06:42 [Music]
07:11 oh my goodness you guys we ended up with so many onions and you know we've
07:15 already harvested a number of the onions and they've already been dried down and
07:19 they're in the root cellar but I started off today by harvesting all the
07:22 walla-wallas and they took up this entire table plus this section right to
07:28 here I do think there was an Ed's red shallot in there so we'll get that put
07:31 in the appropriate bin but these are just such a good onion and they size up
07:36 nicely you know we got some great big ones and then a lot of just really kind
07:41 of normal sized easy to use in a recipe sized onions look at all of those though
07:46 oh my goodness I didn't count plus we've got another basket in the root cellar
07:51 but that's a lot these are the last of the Newburgh onions you know we grew a
07:55 small section out in the area we were just at and then I had two three by six
08:00 raised beds full of them so we've already got those harvested in in the
08:02 root cellar and then the yellow sweet Spanish onions right here oh our AC
08:07 units turn it on that's what's cooling off the root cellar again some huge ones
08:13 I mean that's massive and then a lot of just I mean good so there's a slug nope
08:19 not today there's a lot of big ones and some normal sized ones now I'm just
08:25 guessing here but I think we have between we've probably got about 350
08:30 onions sitting here right now it's a lot okay so now I'm gonna go out and harvest
08:34 some tomatoes and I'll probably show you guys that part but I'm gonna take them
08:38 in and get the marinara started and I won't film inside just because I showed
08:41 you guys that the other day but that's the next step in my day so let's go get
08:45 the tomatoes and get that going and then I'm hoping to get out kind of after
08:49 lunchtime and get a little bit of planting done
08:53 [Music]
09:19 this should be plenty I've got a few tomatoes on the counter if we need to
09:23 supplement a little bit but I was really happy with what we got out of here today
09:27 I have to say out of all the tomato plants which we've got a bunch out here
09:30 and you guys know I took the no prune approach which you can see clearly and
09:35 then you know we've got a nice crop of weeds growing up on this side of them
09:38 but out of all of them and we've harvested gobs off of each one of these
09:42 plants the celebrities have performed the best every year it's a little bit
09:45 different but this year these have been the most consistently sized really good
09:49 flavor it's a more compact plant so they aren't trailing everywhere right there
09:54 right there right there so we're able to use our smaller Titan tomato frames
09:59 that's what we've used out here for all of our tomatoes anyway I've just been
10:03 really happy with them and minor splitting like there's a few that have
10:06 little splits on them while some of the other ones split a little bit worse but
10:10 anyway celebrities is where it's at this year so I'm gonna go in and get all of
10:14 these processed because the marinara does take two hours to cook down so if I
10:18 can just get it all in the pot and get it simmering then we can move on to some
10:21 other things
10:24 [Sizzling]
10:26 [Sizzling]
10:29 [Sizzling]
10:57 The marinara is simmering away on the stovetop and smelling up the house just
11:01 beautifully oh it smells so good while I was doing that working on that inside
11:05 Aaron came out with the tractor and the brush hog and cut down most of the weeds
11:09 you know you can't get super close especially when there's you know there's
11:12 a hose link right here and a hose that runs you know over to the water access
11:17 and you don't want to run over any of that so he did it as close as he felt
11:21 comfortable and it looks a lot better you can actually you know kind of
11:24 navigate through here now which is really really great oh they're marigolds
11:29 that we started from seed they're just looking beautiful they're so much fun
11:34 and so colorful to have out here now the cosmos they were late seeded because I
11:39 completely forgot to plant cosmos in the cut flower garden and you can see what
11:43 our rainstorm the most recent one did they were all up and looking like this
11:48 beautiful hedge and the rain just kind of flopped them down which doesn't
11:52 matter they're still really beautiful look at these they're just gorgeous our
11:58 sweet potatoes which are planted on that side are coming through the cosmos kind
12:04 of growing this way you can see what they're doing forming a complete carpet
12:08 over there I can't wait to see what we get when we dig those up look at these
12:12 these are the apricot lemonade cosmos oh the color on these so pretty and I love
12:21 these as well are these the cupcakes blush maybe cupcake blush mmm so nothing
12:27 going on right here up to the peppers now now my plan for this area for next
12:32 year at least is to garden it very similarly to this year a couple of big
12:36 long rows throw a lot of our big crops out here the ones we grow a lot of so I
12:42 haven't decided yet though if I'm gonna grow wheat out here yet or if I'm gonna
12:46 grow it again in the cut flower garden and what kind of wheat I'm gonna grow if
12:50 I don't grow wheat out here I will most likely toss a cover crop out so we will
12:55 cross that bridge when we get to it we still have about I don't know I feel
13:00 like I've got a few weeks to decide but we do have some beautiful stuff to pop
13:03 in the ground today we've got some cats meow nepeta which is a type of nepeta
13:08 that gets a little bit taller than like the cats pajamas is a really beautiful
13:13 ground cover type nepeta it stays very low I can't remember the exact height
13:18 yeah 17 to 20 inches it definitely gets that it forms just the most beautiful
13:23 mounds of the sagey green foliage with the beautiful purple flowers they're
13:28 just a super tough perennial that the pollinators love and we've got this
13:32 variety and cats pajamas and lots of different areas of our garden but it's
13:36 one of those that I will keep repeating in lots of different areas of our garden
13:39 and then we've got the ginger wine nine bark right here this one grows five to
13:42 six feet tall and wide looking a little bit sad in its container it's yeah it's
13:47 just a little stressed so we need to get it in the ground so it can it can settle
13:51 in and it'll look great next year but you can see what the leaves look like
13:55 they bring that beautiful deep maroon accent to a flower bed and then we've
13:59 got the blue spruce one of the ones that I've Lee sent out this is the moonstone
14:04 it's about full size two feet tall by three feet wide it might broaden out a
14:09 little bit width wise but it'll bring that beautiful icy blue evergreen
14:15 element in a very small way so it's it'll be easy to tuck in so let's run
14:21 out get these planted and then by that point of the day I'm guessing that Pedro
14:25 and his guys might be done not with the project but done for the day and we can
14:29 run over there and take a look I'm trying to stay out of their way though
14:31 today I heard the saw a lot doing some cutting of those stones
14:42 feel like we could do with something red right in here oh yeah we've got the
14:48 reminiscent coral rose right here look at this this is a beast of a rose bloom
14:53 so pretty and then we've got the purple asters looking absolutely gorgeous and
14:58 this is a blue muffin viburnum right here and we've got some hollyhocks that
15:02 we started from seed and then we've got the the monstrous tiger-eyes sumac just
15:09 wanting to take over the world over here I'm gonna have to take after that one
15:13 this fall I think this will look really pretty here kind of backing these coral
15:16 roses I've got more than one of these because I picked up three of them for
15:20 the pond area and didn't use them so it's possible maybe we'll go grab the
15:24 others and put them in here as well I don't know let's start with one
15:30 oh
15:56 yeah that looks really pretty right there I love it I feel like what we need
16:01 in here is a totem pole grass now like one like the big tall grass accent over
16:07 there there's also a few right over there having that super strong vertical
16:11 interest with a little bit of icy blue would be really pretty okay blue spruce
16:15 next
16:18 Oh
16:20 Oh
16:22 Oh
16:24 Oh
16:26 Oh
16:28 Oh
16:55 you guys I love that right there it just tucks in beautifully the only evergreen
17:01 interest on this side of the flowerbed is all the way down here the van der
17:05 wolf pine so having something else right here to bridge the gap to the next thing
17:09 which is the spring grove Arbor Vita is really nice and I don't think it's gonna
17:14 get very much bigger now that I'm looking at it while it's sitting here I
17:17 mean three foot is its width is what it's gonna get to and that's pretty
17:22 darn close and that's two feet tall definitely from ground to the tippy top
17:26 so it might I don't bush out maybe a tiny bit more but nothing else around it
17:31 is going to so it's just absolutely perfect now I did swap out a drip line
17:36 because it tees right here and it tees that way so that I could come and feed
17:42 all of these geraniums right here but I don't need two drip lines to go by this
17:46 I just need one so what I did is I cut out the brown which has the emitter
17:50 holes and I put a solid black poly around the backside of it and then just
17:54 connected it back to the brown that does have the drip holes so that this will
17:58 still get the water it needs but this has half as much water as was in this
18:02 spot before so I think it will keep a happier evergreen that way and the best
18:06 part about this spot too is that there's nothing around it that's gonna shade it
18:09 I mean maybe eventually I mean yeah the tulip tree well it's gonna get quite
18:15 large but it's gonna be a really long time it's not like it's a planted at the
18:19 base of a shade tree somewhere and it's getting harder and harder to find spots
18:23 that are going to maintain that full Sun in the end while I don't mind moving
18:27 perennials and things around you know because right now we're planting
18:30 everything like it's a full Sun garden because that's what it is even though
18:33 there's a ton of trees here eventually we'll have to move those things but
18:37 evergreens I don't really want to have to do that with so I'm trying real hard
18:40 to put them in locations where I won't have to fuss with their location okay
18:45 nepeta left okay so I was initially thinking of planting these on the right
18:50 hand side of the pathway here but I just don't think it's enough of a contrast
18:54 this is the an artemisia right here the name of it is evading me right now but
18:59 anyway I feel like this is too much of a silvery green to contrast that I mean
19:04 it's a pretty pairing too but it looks a little bit dry to have all of that next
19:07 to each other so I think I'm gonna bump them onto this side this is a beautiful
19:13 combination this is the rise up amber Ness rose isn't that gorgeous you can
19:19 grow it as a small climber or a large shrub which is what I'm doing clearly
19:24 I've got three of them in here and I just have enjoyed them so so much so I'm
19:29 thinking I don't really want this right up next to the grass because I've got
19:34 some cats me out just down the way a little bit so I'm gonna start this drift
19:37 a few feet in like maybe right in here and we'll plan to do something different
19:41 right here yeah that is so pretty
19:46 I
19:48 I
19:50 I
19:52 I
19:54 I
19:56 I
19:58 I
20:00 (wind blowing)
20:02 (wind blowing)
20:05 (wind blowing)
20:08 (thudding)
20:11 (thudding)
20:36 - Oh yeah, I really like those there.
20:38 I think they're gonna fill in beautifully.
20:40 I almost feel like right here we need something solid.
20:44 Like maybe a lamppost.
20:46 You know, I've got the lamppost
20:47 over in the end of that flower bed,
20:48 which it's way too small for that flower bed.
20:51 I wonder if I should move it out here.
20:53 Have a little light out here.
20:54 I think that would be so pretty.
20:55 But we are gonna save that project for another day
20:57 because I need to run in, finish canning the marinara,
21:00 and then Pedro and his guys are still here.
21:02 So we will go back out there a little bit later this evening
21:05 and take a look at the progress.
21:07 (metal scraping)
21:09 (upbeat music)
21:21 (saw buzzing)
21:34 (upbeat music)
21:36 (saw buzzing)
21:39 (upbeat music)
21:44 (upbeat music)
21:47 Oh my gosh, you guys, it's looking great out here.
22:12 Now there is a white film on everything.
22:13 He did warn me when I came out here just a little bit ago,
22:17 right before they left.
22:18 And he said there's a white dust film on everything
22:21 because they've been cutting rocks
22:22 and they'll clean it all in the very end.
22:24 But it's just, oh, it's looking so good.
22:26 So rock pathway starts right out here by the driveway.
22:28 They are going to flare it a bit.
22:30 So about right back in here,
22:32 it will just kind of gradually flare
22:34 instead of coming straight out.
22:36 So that will happen tomorrow.
22:38 But if we walk this pathway
22:40 and there will be soil right up to the stone
22:42 so we can plant little ground covers and little fun,
22:46 maybe like Sempervivums and stuff like that,
22:49 just tucked in.
22:51 And look at the patio area.
22:52 It looks so good.
22:57 But my favorite is coming over here,
23:00 turning around and looking at the beautiful pathway
23:04 leading out.
23:05 Isn't that beautiful?
23:10 They've done such a gorgeous job.
23:12 I love it.
23:14 Also this rock edge, I love having that done.
23:17 Oh my word.
23:18 Not being able to see those concrete blocks right here
23:20 is so nice.
23:21 Look at the fish cruising around.
23:23 If you look down here, you can see that the rocks come out.
23:26 It varies a little bit, but like a couple inches,
23:29 one to two inches all the way around
23:32 so that you only can see the blocks
23:34 if you're like really down here
23:36 and looking at them from the side.
23:38 But standing up, you don't even see them.
23:39 And here's a view from that side.
23:41 So we'll have our furniture here
23:43 and we can sit right on the edge, dangle our feet in.
23:47 The fish are like, "Where is our food?"
23:50 That's what you normally do out here.
23:52 CL6, now where's the shark?
23:54 Oh, there's a shark.
23:55 You can hardly see it.
23:56 It kind of blends in with everything,
23:57 but they're all right there.
23:59 And then right under this stone is where that conduit is.
24:02 I'm not gonna pick it up
24:03 because I don't wanna mess with anything.
24:04 But anyway, we'll be able to access that at any point.
24:07 We asked them to put a small rock over it
24:09 so that it wasn't hard to get to.
24:11 They are putting the sand
24:12 in between all these stones as well,
24:14 but we'll have extra in case we do need to pop this up.
24:17 Then we can repair the sand.
24:19 They are going to be cutting in the stair tomorrow
24:22 and starting the walkway out.
24:24 Just a wonderful job.
24:25 Beautiful.
24:26 And I can't wait to see it all clean
24:28 because right now they look really light in color.
24:30 And you guys saw them yesterday.
24:31 They're pretty dark gray.
24:33 So that'll be nice to see them all cleaned up.
24:35 And that is gonna wrap up our projects for today.
24:37 I'm gonna go in and start dinner now.
24:38 I did put a roast in the crock pot this morning
24:41 with a bunch of yummy things, herbs and a bunch of veggies.
24:44 I'm gonna go to the root cellar now
24:45 and get some potatoes for some mashed potatoes.
24:48 It's gonna be good, I think.
24:50 Anyway, I'm excited for that.
24:51 So I'm gonna head in and start making dinner.
24:53 Thank you guys so much for watching this video.
24:54 I hope you enjoyed it.
24:55 Kind of a menagerie of things today.
24:57 That's always a fun day.
24:59 See you guys in the next one.
