00:00 I don't know why, but I always kind of get that urge right before the very end of the season.
00:04 And we do have temperatures like in the low twenties coming our way.
00:08 Here comes an airplane. They sound so loud. Yeah.
00:10 How many different kinds of boxwoods are there? Like I've never heard of,
00:14 are these the same? Well, I hope so. Cause I got them for pots.
00:17 Well, cause like, um, Julia Jane. Oh yeah. Yeah.
00:21 I've never heard of that in my life. My parents have Julia Janes at their house.
00:25 Oh, do they? They do. Can you give me the stats on that one?
00:28 I thought that these were green mountains. How funny. Yes.
00:31 This one says three to four feet high and wide.
00:35 Some zone five through nine macro, um, micro phyla.
00:38 Macro phyla. So they're going to be the stinky ones. That's an English boxwood,
00:42 right? So it's going to stink. Possibly. There's only two though. So it's okay.
00:46 It's only going to smell like.
00:48 They're pretty. And this type,
00:53 usually like the darker green keeps its color better in the winter.
00:57 We've got a green mountain cone right here and see how these have very similar
01:02 looking leaves. Yeah. That'd be great, Aaron.
01:06 Okay. So the Julia Janes are going in containers.
01:10 And then I've got two other spruces and a pine. And this one is so cute.
01:13 This is called a comet Austrian pine grows 15 by four
01:18 and it's hardy to zone four. Isn't that cute? Yeah.
01:22 So we don't have to dig very big holes today.
01:25 I think when I told Aaron I had evergreens you were expecting like,
01:28 no, I knew they were probably going to be small.
01:30 Sometimes I actually love it when they're smaller, like boxwood hedges.
01:35 I love it when they're in the years of trying to form up a hedge because one,
01:40 they don't have to look perfect because they won't look perfect because you
01:43 can't hedge them into a perfect shape. Um,
01:45 but I also just like to watch them grow and fill in.
01:47 And I do like to get big trees and big things like that. You know, Aaron loves
01:51 that. Um, but it's, there's some magic in watching something.
01:55 I do have a question about plant names. Why are they misspelled?
01:59 Like all the time? Like comment with a K. I don't know. It's like a,
02:04 it's like a plant thing. Maybe just whoever the breeder was, was like,
02:08 probably couldn't with a K. I probably couldn't use comment with a C maybe.
02:12 Plus that's a, that's like a, well, I see, I think cleaner,
02:16 not not like comment in the sky. First I think cleaner. I don't know why.
02:20 Okay. Then we've got a Montgomery blue spruce right here,
02:24 which is this one you can see kind of its ending shape right there.
02:27 Eight by six. So it's just going to be like a, like a sick,
02:32 you know? Okay. So I like big evergreens,
02:35 but it does actually look nice whenever we go somewhere where they've got
02:39 architectural evergreens that are smaller.
02:41 They look nice too. They do. I'll give it to you.
02:45 And then we've got an avatar,
02:48 which I do have an avatar blue spruce planted behind the Hartley. Uh,
02:52 these grow. What did you, you looked this one up, right? 20 by 15. Yeah.
02:57 I think so. And it's hardy to zone two. So incredibly winter Hardy.
03:00 Aaron was making fun of me this morning because he says,
03:04 I always say incredibly winter Hardy. Well, I think you do. It's just like a,
03:08 it's just a standard thing that Laura says. Anyway, that's our lineup today.
03:13 So these boxwoods are going to go in containers right ahead of us.
03:16 So we can head that direction first probably and unload those.
03:19 Do you mind driving? I'll walk.
03:21 Because along the way we have the surefire white begonias still looking so
03:25 amazing. I mean, look at the trees almost gone, the leaves,
03:29 but the begonias looking like they are in the middle of summer.
03:33 Okay. So this pot in this pot, this one we need to clean out. Uh,
03:42 so yeah, I think that needs to be trimmed up. I don't think so.
03:46 That is a black cat pussy Willow right there.
03:49 And this container does have some beautiful agar item in here. Uh,
03:52 but we had to clean this one out because the water was malfunctioning and it
03:55 totally crisped up and died. Um,
03:58 so I want these to be matching and soon all the leaves will be gone like off of
04:02 the pussy Willow and a lot of the things around it.
04:04 And I want to have some evergreen interest right here. What are these? Uh,
04:07 are these the, that's where the catkins will come out. A little red things. Yeah.
04:11 This will be loaded. That's why I don't really want to prune it yet.
04:14 I prune it usually in winter.
04:16 Look, just walking down the
04:18 well, you don't have to walk like that. Well, but I want to,
04:24 I want to walk right down the center. That's not center. You're skewing right.
04:28 There, Aaron.
04:30 Plus I will prune it once it's winter time and we want to use the branches and
04:36 arrangements right now would be a waste to prune them back. Sure. Okay.
04:39 I think I am going to throw a little bit of biotone into the soil because I'm not
04:44 intending on changing any of the soil out. So we'll kind of recharge it a little
04:48 bit and we'll get these, get these in.
04:49 [inaudible]
04:54 [inaudible]
04:59 [inaudible]
05:04 [inaudible]
05:09 [inaudible]
05:14 [inaudible]
05:19 [inaudible]
05:24 [inaudible]
05:29 [inaudible]
05:34 [inaudible]
05:38 That soil was dry. Yeah. Well,
05:41 we haven't been watering a lot and this is probably plugged up.
05:44 They look so good right there though. I mean, you have to imagine on this side,
05:48 I did trim a few branches so that you could at least see the boxwood. Um,
05:52 but once all the leaves go,
05:54 it will be so nice to have something evergreen in these containers.
05:57 I've been trying to be better about thinking about the areas where I really miss
06:02 the plants. You know, there are some spots where we just, we aren't by as much,
06:06 you know, the ones that are out in the far corners,
06:07 but these that we drive by or walk by every day,
06:10 it's so nice to have something real pretty.
06:12 And I am going to clip these two little wild branches off real quick.
06:16 This one
06:17 and this one.
06:21 Yeah.
06:22 Yeah. That's better. Okay. Now let's head out to the South garden.
06:27 Find some spots for these.
06:29 I'm actually thinking we try along the driveway over there first. Oh sure.
06:33 Cause there's quite a bit number of holes. Yeah. My goodness. These annuals.
06:36 Here we are. Almost November. Yeah.
06:39 I have a Zafiro spruce right here that just gets eight by six.
06:42 We could use another blue in here somewhere. Uh,
06:46 we have a lot of opportunity over here.
06:48 Okay.
06:49 I've left this open because I think I might want to move this blue spruce and
06:56 do something different here. I'm just not sure.
06:58 Wouldn't it look pretty to have three weeping Alaskan cedars right there?
07:02 Oh yeah. It would be gorgeous. Yeah. Look at this. You guys,
07:06 there's so much room. Let's uh, let's try it out.
07:08 Is it killing you to not put great big ones in right here? No. You sure? No,
07:12 I'm, I'm good at this point.
07:13 Because something like this that will get big.
07:16 We've put enough large things in to where it kind of, it scratches the itch.
07:20 And it kind of like, you know, behind you, the Norway, the big Norway over there.
07:24 Yeah. Well that is beautiful right there. What do you think?
07:27 It's like a little boop. I know it is a little boop, but I mean,
07:31 we can tuck that one in along the back and then let's do it here.
07:34 [inaudible]
07:35 Aaron's grabbing the hose to give it a little bit of water,
08:01 but I think that looks beautiful right there.
08:05 I mean, eventually it's not going to like it here.
08:07 Cause that plane tree will be massive. Yeah. But you know,
08:10 that's going to be everything around it. It'll also be in like 20 years. Yeah,
08:14 it's true. And the pink roses right behind it, they're called all dressed up.
08:18 And they are just about the best rose that I've ever planted.
08:22 The most healthy. I mean, look at these leaves.
08:25 We don't spray these with anything and the blooms. I mean,
08:28 it's always in color of some kind throughout the whole season.
08:32 Just absolutely amazing.
08:34 Only downside is that their fragrance is pretty light and that could be because
08:37 it's pretty cool out right now when it warms up in the day.
08:40 A lot of times since are a little bit stronger, that is a beauty.
08:43 I love having that icy blue. We do have a Norway spruce.
08:46 It's got kind of a blue tint to it right over there. And the totem pole,
08:49 you could consider a blue, but the next one is down here.
08:53 It's that Bonnie blue you planted earlier.
08:55 Next one is the Montgomery blue spruce, which grows again, eight by six.
08:59 So I'm thinking,
09:00 can you see where I made the little mark in the ground, Aaron? Yep.
09:03 Thinking it might be good right here.
09:06 Let me see. Yeah. All of these. I know.
09:12 Can you bring it like my way just a little bit? Just kick it forward. Yeah.
09:16 That might be nice because only six feet wide.
09:18 We'll still be able to put some stuff around it.
09:20 You'll still see the crab apple just beyond it. That is a white gel.
09:24 That's a new one for next year. And I can't remember the name.
09:26 Kind of looking a little sad.
09:29 But it won't. There's still some color on it. Yeah. I like that right there.
09:32 Okay. Let's do it.
09:34 Oh, that looks so cute right there. That is perfect.
09:53 And here it is from that side. You know,
09:57 sometimes it takes planting one or two kind of anchor pieces in an area to kind
10:01 of start the ball rolling.
10:03 And once you get that piece and you can start planting things around it and the
10:06 whole area kind of starts to evolve. You doing all right with the hose in there?
10:09 Oh really? Yeah. I love to see that peak in, especially, you know,
10:14 when it gets eight feet tall,
10:15 we'll be able to see that blue kind of like right through this angle with the
10:19 yellow twig dogwood here. And then we've got the reminiscent crema roses right
10:25 here, which are just gorgeous. Let me shade. Let me shade them.
10:28 Is that a David Austin? No, this is a proven winners. Isn't that beautiful?
10:32 It's amazing that that round thing is going to form some sort of a point or,
10:37 you know, it gets more conical as it matures. Well,
10:40 that's what the picture shows.
10:42 Or maybe it'll just end up being kind of like a big round thing. I don't know.
10:46 Either way. I really like the color.
10:48 So the comet Austrian pine is the last one we've got to find a spot for.
10:51 I wonder if there's a spot by the pond for that Austrian.
10:54 We'll go look.
10:55 Hi.
11:01 How you doing?
11:02 [inaudible]
11:07 [inaudible]
11:12 [inaudible]
11:41 well, I think that that ended up being the perfect spot for that pine. So again,
11:46 that one gets 15 feet tall, but only four feet wide.
11:49 So we'll still have room for lots of other things.
11:53 What kind of ground covers are you thinking?
11:55 Well, like this coral Berry up here, it grows 10 feet wide. Oh wow.
11:59 I kind of want woody shrubby or like the Plumbego only stuff that looks,
12:04 can you do ferns? They wouldn't grow here.
12:06 Well once we have shade, that would be amazing. Yeah.
12:08 Cause we do see ferns up in our mountains. I want it to look like our mountains.
12:11 Sure. You know, I'm trying to avoid, you know,
12:14 formal type plants and you know,
12:15 roses and things that you wouldn't normally find up in the mountains.
12:19 I want this area to feel pretty natural. And I think so far it does. I mean,
12:23 there are some tropicals in the pond and we probably won't be putting tropicals
12:26 except for that late that Lily. I'm going to try to winter that over,
12:30 but everything else, I just want it to be kind of reeds and things like that.
12:33 I think that that just looks so pretty.
12:35 It makes me feel like we're up in the mountains, like we've escaped, uh,
12:38 you know, daily life and that we're just at some really peaceful spot.
12:42 And it is such a peaceful spot, but I think this pine is perfect right here.
12:46 I love it. And you guys, that is going to do it for today's project.
12:49 It was super nice to be out here and I just kind of savoring the last days
12:53 before it really cools off around here.
12:55 So we're going to be getting into bulb planting later this week.
12:58 It's worked out really well. Uh, the whole timeframe,
13:01 I've got a few more dahlias to tag. In fact,
13:03 that's what I'm going to be working on next.
13:04 I'm just not going to film it because I already have,
13:07 I already have for you guys twice and there's only so much dahlia tagging that
13:10 I'm, I'm guessing you guys want to watch. So anyway,
13:12 I'm hoping to get that done today. That's my, my next chore. So anyway,
13:16 thank you guys so much for watching this video.
13:18 I hope you enjoyed it and we will see you in the next one. Bye.
