00:00 We love all classes of cars.
00:02 That's why we're here at Moon Eyes.
00:03 (upbeat music)
00:06 - You guys, you gonna do an interview?
00:18 You gonna do an interview?
00:19 Why are you following us?
00:20 - No, no, we're here, no.
00:21 (cheering)
00:23 - All right, hey, I'm Chico Kodama from Moon Eyes.
00:28 We put on this Christmas show
00:31 every second Saturday of December every year.
00:34 If you come to this show,
00:39 you'll see everything they used to see.
00:41 Hot rod, wrap rod, really nicely done, show cars.
00:45 And that's what's great about this show.
00:48 - My name is Gabriel Rubio.
00:54 I'm the president of Heat Wave Car Club.
00:56 We base off of traditional style, low riding.
00:59 The way you would see in old pictures, old magazines,
01:02 on how guys were cruising the boulevard back in the '70s,
01:04 that's what we wanna bring back out.
01:06 That's our goal, to get the car as low as possible
01:09 to the ground.
01:10 This show is one of our favorite.
01:12 We make it our top shows of the year.
01:14 All year long, this is what we look forward to.
01:17 For us, this is our Vegas super show.
01:19 - We run two classics, two spokes, 520s,
01:23 kind of like the old school paper style cars.
01:25 Well, this one is a '73 Ford Galaxy 500.
01:29 New paint job, new vinyl top, wheels, tires, hydraulics.
01:32 He painted the car,
01:33 put the little nice little pearl or flake in it.
01:35 It's in our backyard, so why not?
01:37 Here's the car just looking just right for the show.
01:39 - Hi, my name's Jim Campbell.
01:43 I'm the driver for Big Jim Dunn Racing
01:45 in the Moon Eyes NHRA Nitro Funny Car.
01:48 This car right here is a Mopar.
01:50 It's a Dodge Charger.
01:51 When I punch the throttle on this thing,
01:52 it will shake you right out of your shoes.
01:54 This car is capable of producing 11,500 horsepower
01:57 and running speeds of 330 miles an hour and 1,000 feet.
02:01 We run 24 events in our race season with the NHRA.
02:04 We run a Moon Eyes body.
02:05 It may be different each race, but it's always Moon Eyes.
02:08 - My name's Steve Silva, and I belong to the Bomb Club.
02:17 We prefer the airbag ride system.
02:20 That's what offsets the low riding persona
02:23 that the car presents itself.
02:25 Hydraulic system is popular amongst the '60s era Impalas.
02:33 The airbag system is less evasive.
02:36 You get the same technique.
02:37 You could lower the airbag ride all the way to the floor,
02:41 and that's all 1949 to 1952.
02:45 - This is what we do, man.
02:48 You know, this is where we come
02:49 and we show what we got outside of a shop.
02:51 I get to drive for a legend in Big Jim Dunn,
02:53 and I get to hang out with Chico and Shige from Moon Eyes,
02:55 so it doesn't get any better than this.
02:57 - To have these younger people carry on the hot rod cultures
03:02 and whatnot, it's a really great feeling.
03:05 (upbeat music)
03:08 (dramatic music)
