Notre Dame Needs To Turn Sam Hartman Loose
Transcript
00:00 What I think is most interesting about the whole offensive conversation for me is that
00:09 what was the reason you brought Sam Hartman to Notre Dame for?
00:12 Right?
00:13 Because what was the best and worst of him at Wake Forest?
00:15 Because it's all intertwined in my opinion.
00:17 The best was my guy was super aggressive, could attack down the field, wasn't afraid.
00:22 There was no throw at Wake Forest that Sam Hartman was afraid to make.
00:26 Not a single one, which is the biggest negative to his game at Wake Forest as well.
00:30 The fact that like, maybe you shouldn't have done that Sam.
00:33 Maybe that wasn't the best decision in the world.
00:35 Right?
00:36 But that's what you love about him.
00:37 And it's like the Brett Favre, John Elway-ish thing at a time.
00:42 Right?
00:43 Where it's like, I'll take the good with the bad because there's a lot more good than there
00:47 is bad a lot of times.
00:49 Right?
00:50 And I think that's why you brought Sam Hartman here was to really get the explosiveness,
00:54 get the aggressiveness in this passing game going.
00:57 And we have seen him relegated throughout for the most part of this year to being a
01:02 system player, a player that is just operating and he's a one, two and let's get the ball
01:06 out and let's get the ball out on time and let's not kill ourselves and let's remain,
01:11 you know, very sound and safe with the football.
01:15 And ultimately he's done a pretty good job doing that.
01:19 But like, again, you're putting a cap on how explosive that you can be as a passing offense
01:24 at this point.
01:25 Right?
01:26 Like you have done that.
01:27 And I understand part of it at times because we've talked about it.
01:31 Wide receiver group has been decimated by hamstring injury throughout the last few weeks.
01:36 Right?
01:37 You're, you're working with a half a group.
01:39 You're working with guys that are not a hundred percent.
01:41 I mean, it's been obvious.
01:42 Right?
01:43 So I understand you being hamstrung in times, but there really hasn't been too many moments
01:48 this year, even during the four game stretch early on in the season where I looked at him
01:51 and said, you know, they're letting Sam loose, man.
01:54 They're looking at him and just letting him go and letting him fire and letting him be
01:57 him.
01:58 So I think that that identity is, is a part of it.
02:00 Like that identity in the passing game is my biggest thing.
